Hey, I just got my 510 like 4 days ago from a company here in FL and I'm absolutely loving it. Haven't had a real cig since. The guy who sold it to me told me I should blow out the atomizer once a week or so, and if I saw any little threads from the cart stuck to it to take tweezers and pull them out. Now, today I saw almost like a glob of threads stuck in one of the holes below the metal part in the atty. So I took a paperclip and started pulling them out, but they don't look like the pieces of fiber or whatever from the cartridge they look like little strands of plastic or something. I've pulled out like 5 or 6, but there's more in there. Are these supposed to be there? It's still hitting good, but has what I've done going to make my atty die sooner? I'm waiting to get a spare, and I don't want to go back to analogs. Any help?

Probably not good. There are two types of fiber associated with the ecig.

1. Is the polyfill that is part of the cartridge
2. Is a fiber that is weaved through around the wick, metal mesh, bridge of the atomizer.

My advice is to not mess with 2.

All newbies should, for education sake, just take the filler out of a cartridge and pull it apart to see what a strand of the pollfill looks like - it is very thin, hairlike, and it can occasionally get caught on the bridge or by a stray thread of the metal mesh.

It is much different than the fiber that is part of the atomizer. So know that when you take the tweezers into the atty chamber.

Most 'nasty taste' isn't coming from stray threads of filler anyway - it's either the shipping fluid on the atomizer when it's new, you've run out of juice and are vaping air, or your atty bridge is off center to where it is burning/melting the plastic on the top of your cartridge. You can also get a burnt taste after doing a dry burn.

I had the same thing happen about a month ago. They looked like little strands of straw or paper fibers and were underneath the bridge. I pulled a bunch of them out. The atomizer seemed to perform the same afterward and has been going fine since then. I still would love to know what it was and if there is a purpose for it. I have not seen it on any other atomizers.

Pretty sure they are on all atomizers although the 'new attys' that innovapor had were a bit different than other attys I've seen. But the fact that the fiber is there should be a big hint on that one shouldn't pull it out. That's why I recommend not messing with it. There's one poster 'raven'? that pulls it out of every atty he gets and says no problems. Others have reported killing the atty on the spot. I have only one atty that underperforms after 4 months and it is one that I took just one strand of that fiber out before I noticed it wasn't from the filler. Still works, just not as well as the others.

Too bad we don't have a few workers/engineers from Joye the visit the forum. Atlhough they'd be swamped with questions. lol. I haven't seen any real 'expert' posts on this - some guesses and specuations...

Type of e-cig doesn't necessarily have an effect on throat hit. It has somewhat of an influence, yes, but if you're getting a bunch of vapor and no throat hit, it lies somewhere else.

And no, do not pull those fibers out. They are, indeed, the wicking. If there are fibers connected to the metal mesh of the atomizer at the top, that's part of the poly fill, and those are safe to pull out. But if it's fiber that's at the bottom surrounding that metal mesh, don't mess with it.
