I smoked about 1.5 (avg) for the last 25 years. I've been vaping for about 5 months. Held my breath for 1:47 before I gasped for air. It used to be much much easier- I had great lung capacity as a child.

But my breathing has improved tremedously since I started vaping.
I had gotten to the point that I needed to use my Nebulizer every morning. I haven't used it in 2 or 3 months, I finally put it away :D

on another note: if you want more exposure, you can add your poll info to your tagline. That is how I ended up here :) I followed a link in someone's signature!

Not sure how many pack years I smoked for, started when i was 14, switched to e-cigs when I was 31. During those years i went from about two packs a week (when i was young) to, at times, a pack and a half a day, so it's hard for me to calculate :confused:

When I was still smoking I could usually hold my breath for about 2 minutes, give or take. Just now I tried and got to 3:30 for the first time ever.

Also taking into consideration the fact that i had extremely bad asthma when i was born til sometime in my later teens, holding my breath for three and a half minutes isn't something I ever expected to be able to do, hehe.

I just surprised myself by holding my breath (as per your instructions) for 90 seconds, without going to desperate lengths. Makes me think I could top 2 minutes with effort.

When I was a youngun in HS, who ran the mile in Track, I thought anything over two minutes was respectable!

I quit almost seven months ago. 42 pack years, by your formula.

{frankly, surprised}

One minuet thirty seconds, a carton a week of menthols for over 20 years. I also have one of those gadgets that you take a deep breath and blow into as hard as you can, it's supposed to measure lung capacity. On that thing I'm back to way above normal like I used to be.

Excellent! I really believe the spirometer lung-function tests gave me incentive to quit; I figured I better quit before my lungs deteriorate. The double-edged sword is that many folks tend to think that a normal (or better) result means they don't have anything to worry about...

ok I tired it - I didnt take 3 FULL breaths - but I managed just a hair past 1 min before I had to breathe.
I was a PAD smoker for 25 years but at times I had a couple of packs at weekends - so i don't know how many pack years as it wasn't EVERY weekend. Maybe 30 pack years?

That's what I calculated if you smoked an extra pack on Friday and Saturday, 3 out of 4 weekends. 30.35 Pack years. Good job!

I just tried it a couple times - the first time I didn't quite make it 2 minutes, but the second time was 2:10. I smoked about 1.5 packs a day for 40 years, so 60 pack-years. Been using the e-cig exclusively since November '09.

It's great motivation watching these numbers improve. I do a 3breath all the time when I find myself thinking at all about analogs. :censored: .... smoking! :censored::censored::censored:
Cigarettes :censored: my big :censored: :censored:
