On oct. 15 I quit smoking and started vaping. It is going well and, although I still crave stinkies, I grab my vape and it goes away.
Even though I was not smoking, I was still carrying my lighter, im not sure why, maybe for security, maybe in case I was able to bum a stinky off someone.
Today, I threw my lighter away.

That was one of the biggest trials for attempting to quit, prior to vaping. A lesson had been shared that if one is serious about quitting smoking, not only trash the smokes, but lighters and ashtrays, too. Makes sense.

I managed to ween off stinkies when I first started vaping. I kept all my smoking accessories. They still go untouched.

Ironically, I collect old Ronson lighters and just re-built a "Whirlwind" Ronson 2 days ago. It's been in my pocket since. I don't have any inclination to light up. I just like my antique lighters.

OP, congratulations on feeling confident enough in your transition to throw away your lighter! Your life has changed for the better. Now, go dig the lighter out of the trash and put it in a drawer somewhere. People always need fire. ;)

Congrats, I think that's a good idea to get rid of the lighter to re-train your brain, ya know? Probably doesn't help to get reminded of a cigarette every time you dig into your pocket. I put mine in a drawer that I hardly ever go into, but I like the symbolism of your method more:)

I started e-cigs 10 days before you and have smoked probably 15 regular cigs since then, mostly in the first couple weeks. I'm still getting those urges to grab a cig too, but for me it's faded big time in the last few weeks and I'm getting used to grabbing my robot cigarette instead. These things are truly a gift! Vape on!

Smoking is bad, vaping is good. That said, keep your PV in reach, with liquid that can crush a tobacco craving, but never leave home without a source of fire. Civilization makes us take energy for granted, but a lighter can save you from freezing, starvation, or food-born pathogens in a survival situation. Even if you're not a "survivalist" a lighter is an unobtrusive way to make sure you make it through a rough night.

LOL I will admit... I had my last tobacco cigarette back on Feb 22, 2013... it took about 2 months later before I quit transferring my lighter every time I changed my pants.

After nearly 40 years of smoking... I felt almost naked for several weeks not having a lighter in my pocket. Not packing it was almost as ceremonial as not keeping a pack of smokes on me or within arms reach. I still have 2 backup lighters in my truck... in case I need to start a camp fire now!!

Gotta agree with Scarey on this one. Everyone should have fire on them, from ancient times till now. I like being in the backwoods when I can get off work so maybe I just got a lil too much country in me, but I don't go anywhere (save for airports) without a knife and at least one way to make fire. It's just 2 items that I use just about every day and I wouldn't be without them regardless of whether I smoked or moved to the city.

When I made the switch to vaping I have away my stinkers and my lighters, haven't looked back. Wife is still smoking so if for whatever reason I need fire I can grab hers, I have no need for one in my pocket. Although since then I have had to carry a backpack with me to carry all my vaping supplies, they don't make pants with enough pockets for all my stuff

Get it out of the trash you will need it to light your torch for building micro coils. I know from experience I threw mine out and then had to actually got to 7-11 and get another when I started re building.

I threw mine out months ago... I felt stupid buying a 5 pack of lighters to light my gas stove, or candles...

Congrats on the quitting stinkers, its my 12 th day without ciggys but i still carry my security blanket i mean lighter!
I even have a skinny cigar in my e-cigg carry pack in case of emergency. I don't think ill need it though, doing well.
It is a really good idea though before quitting to get rid of ashtrays in the house, car etc. any reminders may lead to temptation.

Cheers :)

After a few months of vaping I thought I had thrown out all my lighters. Needing to start a fire at the cottage didn't have one- checked my bag and being the always prepared Nic addict discovered I had 3 extras LOLLL. At home had a power failure- scrounged around and found another 4 extra lighters. Since then I've found another 10 lighters- toolboxes, workshops, sheds...ALWAYS a need for a lighter IMO.

I found one of my many lighters down under my truck seat yesterday. It was kinda awkward. I can tell he had wondered why I had forsaken him, poor guy I almost felt bad for him.
I do keep a full pack of Marlboros in my truck so I set him with them so they can keep each other company.

Why the full pack of unopened analogs you ask?
I have them in my console where I can plainly see them when I am in my truck (I drive my truck 80 miles a day so we spend a lot of time together) They are there to remind myself that not smoking them is my CHOICE. I look at them and am able to say "I don't need you"
It works for me.
