On June 27th, 2010, It will be 3 months since I have touched an analog!

BUT, I seem to have to clear my throat constantly! In the beginning I thought it was just needing to get used to vaping. As of this morning, I need to clear my throat after every vape drag! It seems to be getting worse, and this NEVER happened with analogs!

I have always used VG juices and 24mg strength. Any ideas, thoughts ,suggestions !

I know that analogs may kill you, and I say may due to knowing some older people that smoked until they died....at 85+ years! I'm 45 and would take 80+ smoking analogs than, having rapid, unknown problems!

I DO NOT WANT TO stop vaping, I actually enjoy it more , but, the throat clearing is starting to become an issue/worry for me!

My doctor is SO happy I do not use analogs and said that if I began to cut down the nicotine ( even if it took a year) he would rather have me do that than smoke again. Last time I saw him (month ago) the throat clearing wasn't as bad and I didn't mention it.

The doc is the only one who can or will answer that one.Had a touch of a cold trick me into thinking my vape got me once but yours sounds consistant.

My doctor only knows what I have told him of the e-cig....I don't think he'll know more than I do ! I am wondering if anyone else has the clear throat symptom/problem?

Excessive phlegm production has been reported as a side effect of e-smoking, and has been called a serious problem by a Malaysian doctor researching our little passion. You are sucking a humectant (PG or VG) into your throat and lungs, coating everything it touches. That dries things out. Your body responds by making phlegm to moisten things back up to where they should be. Result? Clearing phlegm from back of throat frequently. Coughing up clear phlegm in small amounts. This is a known side effect. What to do about it is unknown. It will not resolve itself and likely only will worsen over time with continued use.

It couldn't hurt to make sure you stay hydrated. Try increasing liquid intake to 10 glasses a day. See if it makes a difference.

You might also try hard candies. Just don't make the mistake my poor mother did. She's diabetic and so was using cough drops sweetened with sucralose. It has a laxative effect.

Thanks...Seems like if I take a sip of tea or ANY liquid it helps, but, been there since day one :(

I am going to try and lower Nic and see if it helps...

Thanks and keep me in the "know" :)

I would say a little extra phlegm is better than smoker's cough and tarry lungs. In the beginning of my vaping (3/29/10), I actually had a knot of phlegm in my throat for about 3 weeks. I could even feel it draining at the back of my throat, yuk. It's gone now. I don't know if it's because I drink tons of water or because I thoroughly washed my nasal passages out everyday with the Neti Pot (as others have suggested), but it hasn't come back. You're supposed to be drinking the 10-12 glasses of water per day anyway while you're detoxing all the analogs toxins out of your body. Maybe that will help. Hang in there -- not TOO MANY Marlboros, LOL. Blessings, dearheart and OP, it will get better.

It is probably the VG and a little too high nicotine. If I use over 20% VG or over 12mg nicotine I have the same problems. Also, as suggested earlier, hydration. Ya gotta drink more liquids to keep yourself hydrated.

Ive got the same problem. Always having to clear my throat. Theres a clear/whitish substance i always hack up, Its not too bad, and i always get it all out. But about an hour or two later, its back hehe. Its not too bad, better than the way i felt when i smoked and coughed up brown/green/red/blackish stuff :)

This is starting to sound like a common , possibly dangerous, side-effect... I never had a cough or breathing issues when I smoked ...nothing brown green or other! I smoked for almost 30 years no breathing coughing problems! I have this since day one and, today the 27th , it's still there, exactly 3 months! I hope we aren't killing ourselves faster with vaping than analog smokes! Sometimes one chemical ingested, may be worse than 4000 :(

I also had a CT Scan of my lungs 2.5 months after starting to Vape ( to check on an unrelated to smoking issue) and my lungs were CLEAR! )

I hope we can figure this one out somehow!

Thanks for all the input so far!

I have this too - its preferrable to the cough I swapped it for. Honestly Im not worried or panicking about it - I didn't go into this thinking PVs were 'safe' jsut 'safER' than cigs. I had the phlegm with smoking anyway (but it was thicker and yukkier) so this really isnt much different or more annoying than it was back then lol It hasn't stopped me vaping as much as I do cos I really would prefer NOT to go back to smoking and I need something that isn't drugs or patches (patches made me feel ill and jittery).
My lungs are clear, I dont have an infection, no shortness of breath, and Im not inhaling carbon monoxide - seems like a fair exchange to me.

My throat clearing went away... Don't know what you people are talking about!

To the OP: using 100% VG is going to put a thick coating on everything it touches. You're guarenteed coughing up mucus when you use pure VG. You should try switching to PG only for a bit to see if that clears it up, I bet it will!

Bet is the VG used in the juice, try going to all PG, I dilute with distilled H20, in all of my juices, just a few drops. Help the atty also.
Also depends are where you live, the pollen this year has been heavy, least it was here in Florida.

I only throat inhale and get a major oil slick in the back of my throat. I have difficulty coughing it up and get shortness of breath when it's really bad. at night when i'm sleeping it must be trying to work it's way up my throat b/c i'll get a hacking tickle cough that tastes just like the juice i've vaped. no amount of water will stop the irritating cough.

the only way i can get it out entirely is in a hot shower and what comes up is larger and more disgusting than anything i ever coughed up as a smoker. It's more like a pneumonia size phlegm.

i'll continue to vape although i've been vaping a year now and have cut down quite a bit. it really does help with my breathing when i'm not sucking on it like a lollipop all day.

The clearing of the throat REALLY bothers me, but, I don't want to go back to analogs after 3+ months! I hope I'm not killoing myself quicker with e-cigs than analogs! I honestly feel NO difference after no analogs for 3+ months! I feel EXACTLY the same...no better , maybe a little worse due to the throat issue. I am going to lower the nic level and hope it helps! This truly sucks! I DO NOT want to go back...but at times I think my salvation may actually be my doom ! I won't give up though...not yet !

Thanks for the replies , and keep them coming... especiallly you "Throat Clearer's"

Best to all!

VG does this to me every time. I don't have the throat clearing problem when I use PG or a PG/VG mix. It just happens with the VG. :)

Vg give me the same problem, I tried half and half and NO way could I do that. I had a sore throat in a few hours. I can not go past maybe 20% vg without having throat issues and raspiness and general nastiness in my throat. It is only with vg that I have this issue.
