Below is a list of the ingredients in the Totally Wicked Liquid...All pretty harmless.. Its now being verified and tested by a UK company results and report will be available by late next week.

Poll results are surprising me so far.
Hardware - atomiser and battery - get the most votes.
Next by quite a way are additives and nicotine.
pH - alkalinity gets the least votes. I suspect that is because it's something we know little about rather than a realistic assessment of importance.

a test i did yesterday was:
on a new 901 i used a medium marlboro cartride,
and next i filled an new empty cart with marlboro high e-liquid from e-cigs.uk
results:
exactly the same taste and throat hit.
conclusion..... not the nicotine...not the hardware.
what's left? additives?
It could be the hardware was giving the same hit or the additives in the same flavour or pH was the same. As you say, it's not the nicotine that caused the hit.
This is quite bizarre, I get no throat hit from no nic juice but I do from high nic juice from the same company! My body doesn't need the nic, I want to get rid of the nic and withdrawing from it probably won't be that bad if my body thinks its still vaping it but I NEED that throat HIT!! Flavour is almost as important but I just can't vape no nic it doesn't do it for me.
You would really have to test out the same brand and flavour in zero and high nic with the same device over a day or two to be sure of the differences I think. There are lots of variables to take into account but if everything was the same bar the nic level it would be an interesting test.
if i could find something with a good throat hit and zero nicotine,
i could quit nicotine. (at least i think i can)
i'm a 2nd day e-smoker.
just came from the kitchen....tabasco won't do anything for the throat....
...but i get a tongue hit along with the juice in my mouth....

I have a pack of Janty heavy shag/cigar high nicotine cartridges that I don't like - they are too harsh for me. If someone reliable is prepared to invest in some Janty heavy shag zero nic juice or cartridges to compare I'll send them my cartridges free.
Anyone interested let me know.
test continued.... i had a "low" cart from the same marlboro flavor and used it.
well it is definitely not the nic that hit's. still the same as medium.
i also have another "zero" from that batch, will try it later.
I think it has alot to do with the atomizer and here is why:
I bought a 901 battery and atomizer seperate about a month ago; it had a great throat hit from day one (changing my mind about the 901's which is why I bought a whole new kit) I just bought a 901 kit last week; it gives no throat hit what so ever; I keep hoping it will get better but still after a few days still nothing (the reason I previously thought the 901's weren't worth buying). No idea what the difference between the two are and no idea how I could possibly get a throat hit out of the one I just got. I am using the same exact liquid with both and have switched up the batteries. It is hit and miss and it really sucks because you're pretty much throwing money away.

I have 6 901 ecigs and after a few days (breaking in time)they all give about the same hit all you have to do is make sure you clean them out put exactly the same liquid in all off them and puff at least 25 puffs and they should all hit the same.

Shame were never gonna get any of the manufacturers to let us know what the secret hit ingredient really is ..

Lots of posts here are talking about pepper but what pepper do we mean? Is it Black Pepper Piper nigrum or Chili Capsicum types. Both type could be likely candidates.
I think it's a combo of the first 3......At least atomizer and good power gives you a nice warm cloud......Perhaps even the temperature of what we are inhaling is partially to blame.....New atomizer and a fresh battery produces a hotter/denser charge.
