Greetings all!

I have been using a standard 510 w/ a USB passthru or just the regular 3.7v batteries. I am quite happy with its performance, and I have been very luck that only one atomizer has died (out of the total of 10 I have), as well as the fact that even at stock voltage and batteries, it produces great vapor and throat hit.

However, I am getting the feeling I should try something new ... just to explore the e-cig world.

Being happy with the 510, should I just get a bigger battery so I am not charging as much? Or is there a model that is just as good (or better) that might have better batteries?

One note: Not sure I am into higher voltage, as I said its pretty good right now, but if that is easily obtainable whilst not killing atomizers like I read on these forums all the time, I would try that.

Thanks for your input!

The best way to get into batteries is with a cheap box mod. The Bartleby is probably the best thing going, since it uses a 510 connector, charges over USB, and can be used as a PT. Unfortunately, the guy who makes them is on break for a couple weeks because his wife just had twins (fortunate for him, unfortunate for us :) ). There are lots of other simple box mods available in the $30 range, but they lack the USB functionality. You may even want the check out the Mr. Puffer, which is by far the cheapest juicebox available (only $35). A juicebox is a box mod with a built-in juice bottle that you can squeeze to refill the cartridge automatically. A lot of people seem to like them.

I'd say that since you're happy with the 510 to find a mod...the 510 doesn't actually run at 3.7V on stock batteries..they're more like 3.1V..same with the eGo but a much better battery life..
My own personal preference is the super6...but that can be a little on the pricey side..keeping a small form factor I'd second the bartleby idea, or a chameleon, or I guess madvapes has got some slick little mods coming out soon..

Lots of nice battery mods out there. You'll get a bunch of different answers. 5v passthroughs are great to start with. That'd give you a good idea about higher voltage. 6v for me was just too much (burned taste and no flavor) and I find the 3.7v batteries put out 4.2v anyway when first charged and are perfect, especially on the 510.

Decide how large of a mod you want to carry around, then make your choice on how long the battery runs (mAh is the running time... the larger the battery, the longer the mAh time too). An 18650 3000mAh will run 2 days. A 10440 is only going to run a few hours (typical of the smaller laser type mods).

A good run down of most of the battery mods is here E-cig News: A run-down of all the big battery model e-cigarettes on the market

I say stick with the 510 and USB adapter - that's my setup too and I don't think it gets much better than this!

In my opinion its ALWAYS time for a mod :D there are some pretty easy ones that can give you better battery life (although you lose some form factor in the process) that can be accomplished for under 10 dollars (+ the cost of whatever batteries you want to put in).

For example, you could build a nicostick's casing completely for an extremely small amount of money, then buy a few protected lipo batteries and run em in parallel. Should give you MANY hours of vaping pleasure without recharging.

Other things that might help you a lot (and save more money) are accessories like usb passthroughs. That way when you're at home you don't have to vape off batteries.

Hope I've helped :)

edit: all of these are easy to build with the info in the mod forum, I have almost no knowledge of electrical work yet was able to accomplish a nicostick with a little help from the helpful guys over there.

The real question is, do you want to go high voltage or not?

Well, here is my opinion on that matter...
I do not like high voltage, because you have to take small drags.
I want nice long lung filling drags, so I did NOT like high voltage at all.

I use my Chuck at 3.7v and it is WAY better than the stock 510 for all reasons...
--never have to worry about blowing your atomizer
--brings out the proper flavor in all juices
--infinite battery life
--much more vapor
--better throat hit

Not saying you need a Chuck, as there are many good 3.7v mods out there.

I will never again even try high voltage, it just isn't for me.
I don't want little 3 second drags, nor any worry about blowing out my atomizer.

And now that you can get low resistance 510 atomizers, there is no reason to go high voltage in my opinion, although if someone disgrees I would be very happy to hear their input.

I believe that is just your experience. I've talked with many 5/6 volt users who take nice long drags without a problem. I use a 5 volt PV and take nice big drags and enjoy the better flavor and throat hit.

No, that is the opinion of quite a few people.

If I took a 7 second direct-lung-inhale drag off my Chuck at 6v it would rip my lungs right out of my chest, and the juice would start to taste burnt, and I'd probably blow the atomizer fairly soon.

The Chuck at 3.7v blows away any stock batteries, and I'll never want for more.

However, to be fair, I've never vaped at 5v so I can't speak for that.
But everybody keeps saying that these big batteries at 3.7v really run at around 4.2v.

I don't understand that, but they keep on saying it.

For those of us who are fail at direct inhale, the HV mods give better throat hit. As you pointed out...I would never try to direct inhale a 5v....that's crazy talk! lol

Honestly, different strokes for different folks. Many people (including myself) like the 5v, like the flavor, etc... Many people don't. Lets not get too mad at our differences of opinion. :) we're all friends here!

At first, I just vaped at home with the USB, saved the batteries for going out. The USB passthroughs (PT) with a battery will work on any USB port, the ones without a battery have issues because they require too much power.

The Tornado has better response in public, due to it looking like some sort of cigarette, and it lasts all day, but I've felt the atomizer get hot in my pocket a few times and so I typically use the Bartleby.

The Bartleby is an awesome unit. It has an ON/OFF switch and the USB charges while you vape, very convenient! It does look a bit like a walkie talkie or cell phone or something, so if you like freaking people out, take a puff off the 'antennae' and smile real big.

eGo or Tornado (which btw has new colors, pink and red... I have the black)

I'd like to try something that feeds the juice better, so I'm looking at this one from the ecf contest,

Mr Puffer from Pufftronic

I'll prolly order one soon...
