So I was looking through my news feeds on my phone when I saw this tagline from TIME magazine that reads: "Study: E-Cigarettes Do Not Help People Quit Smoking“. I read the article, and was at a complete loss for words. It infuriated me. Between the size of the group they used, and the little information given on the actual experiment that was done, I don't even understand how an article like this can be published. I'm sick of the fear mongering being done by the government and the media. People read these tag lines, skim over the article and take it as fact instead of speculation, and do not know the actual facts. There was so much misinformation and intentionally vague, undetailed information on the study that I don't get how these people can even be allowed to do these studies.

And today we learn that a survey in France has revealed that 1% of the entire French population (that'd be about 6% of smokers) has quit smoking using an ecig.

So take your pick: no one...... 6% of smokers....... no one.......... 6% :)

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. As it usually is.

Only the most recent in a long list of bogus articles. We seem to be seeing an avalanche of these pieces recently, and it may not be without purpose.

They are widespread and numerous enough that when you search, Google or DuckDuckGo (no tracking..:)) for e-cigarette topics or nicotine topics, sites such as ECF are no longer on the first page of results. A person doing research is only presented the propaganda if they don't know what to look for, and assume the information presented is correct.

Which is why one should "promote" vaping via Facebook...

"Haven't smoked a cigarette in 6 months, thanks to e-cigarettes!"

Etc.

Enough vapers do that enough times, and enough people will start to get the real picture...

I wish I could have your faith, Gato. There seems to be an almost coordinated media assault, even though every bit of science defies the concept. And we've seen what those assaults can result in.

It's borderline criminal behavior.

When the blabbing heads or the mainstream print media report that "black is black and white is white," and you feel compelled to fact-check the assertion, then clearly the journalism establishment has utterly failed.

I cancelled my TIME magazine subscription many years ago, when I fact-checked a few randomly chosen articles and found that better than 40% of the "facts" reported were untrue or so seriously yanked out of context that they were, in effect, untrue.

and yet we see these Chantix commercials all over the place and the media has no problem with those. Nevermind that Chantix makes you chop up your family and eat them, at least you won't have the urge to light up a cigarette in the process.

I tried 6 times to quit smoking before trying e-cigs. I first tried e-cigs on 4/1/10 and haven't had a drag off a cigarette since. Now ask me how much I care about some study telling me e-cigs won't help me quit. They already did.

The research regarding health risks is important. Research regarding efficacy for quitting, not so much. Different methods will work better or worse for different people. If the health risk is low, there is little harm in trying.

This. Even if it were five percent the risk--it isn't--it would be worth it. Since my other choice is 100% of the risk, 5% is a real life-saver.

When will these people start absorbing facts or at least do some proper searching before printing articles!
I smoked for 50 years and in the past year or so had got up to around 35 per day. I stopped virtually be accident and still find it amazing!

LOL... Same here. My wife wanted to quit, and she wanted me to quit with her. I bought my starter kit to create the illusion that I was giving it an honest try. I smoked 5 more cigarettes, and my 30 year habit was done.

In a sense, "E-cigarettes do not help people quit smoking" is true. They don't. E-Cigs make people forget that they like to smoke.

Read my sig

then you can read below the box to
Im an independant old goat

Good one! and while I'm not an old goat, I am down from 2 PAD as a result of e-cigs lol

I tried Chantix before I found e-cigs because it was prescribed by my Dr. and paid for by my insurance....

Not only did Chantix not help me quit, I smoked more that first week I was on it, and it did put me in "altered states" (although didn't want to chop up anything or anyone...(yikes!)... but I won't get into my nightmarish details.

I truly wish I had tried e-cigs FIRST. It's unfortunate that e-cigs weren't at the top of the list for "smoking cessation" when I was looking for help to quit my 2 PAD habit.
