That is actually my picture. I found it in my old vape stuff. Those wicks were more of a fad. They were hyped up.
Porous ceramic provided the absolute best flavor for gennys imo, but they were fragile. I used the fc 2000 wicks for a couple years and ran the fc2000 thread, but in the end, cotton came around and phased out both mesh and ceramic. Not sure what was trickier to set up, mesh or ceramic, both had to be very precise, but once done, best vape of the era, hands down

I could never wrap the wire mesh into small enough wicks. I ended up purchasing premade mesh wicks online. Tried the ceramic wicks, too, and agree they were very fragile and expensive if I recall correctly.

My "experiments" with genny-style tanks were relatively short-lived. Although they delivered a fine vape when they worked, they were too finnicky. You had to tilt the tank sideways to moisten the wick (the "genny tilt maneuver"). They were not an ideal out-and-about delivery device by any means because they had to always remain upright or they would leak.

Hats off to anyone still using a genny. You've got more patience than myself.

No doubt......it was hard and took time for sure....today alot of folks don't do rebuildables because it's kind of hard , but compared to the gennys, building today's rta's are cake . When the taifun , kayfun, and reo's came around with micro coils and cotton, It was a game changer !!!

I agree with that. My experience with the genesis turned me off to rebuilding for several months. Then I got a Svoemesto Kayfun Lite Plus which was indeed a gamechanger. A much better design concept.

My first real set up after cig a likes. Omega mech mod from altsmoke and a cart from 2011. From there I bought a provari and started rebuilding gennysView attachment 780147

I was hoping someone would post an Omega. That was my first mech....retired long ago. Still have it boxed away, but it was fun for me to "play" with for a while.

For those not familiar with the AltSmoke Omega, it was a mech mod without a real fire button. The top cap was spring loaded and functioned as a fire button.

Provari looked like just a regulated mech.
Oxymoron?

It was built to be durable like a mech, too. It was milled from a bar of stainless steel. Unlike most regulated mods of the time which were plastic or pot metal.

At least it looked like a mod. I don't know what the Darwin looked like. To me it looked like something thrown together from spare parts in someone's garage. I guess you can tell which fan boi I was? ;)

The atomizer I bought recently was the DDP One V2. It's a high end atomizer. I tried SS Mesh wick many times in it. It works great then out of the blue it messes up. For example, I built a coil with an SS mesh wick. It was working great. I went to bed, I picked it up and vaped and it had hot spots. At that point, I decided to stop using SS Mesh wicks. Cotton technology has advanced a lot. So It does produce good flavor.

I even made some SS Mesh wicks for my drop. As stated, it works well then out of the blue it gets all messed up.

I have been vaping for about ten years now. I recently bought an old school style atomizer(Genesis). It brought back a lot of memories. I went through my old vape pile that was out in a shed. I found my old Reo Grand Mini mech sqounker(2011). Lately, I have been digging into the past. Here are some pictures of old school vape products. If you have any, please post them.

Just some random pictures of things from back in the day.

Thanks for sharing, that was really interesting. So, what does someone who's been vaping as long as you use currently?

Ha, that sounds more like a question of "What have you learned?" I recently bought a single coil RDA and an MTL RTA. It made me realize that there are different styles of vaping and it depends what you're in the mood for. I was vaping the 9mg in the MTL device for a strong throat hit. I changed to my DROP a few moments ago. I wanted something different. They clearly produce different feelings.

When I was cloud chasing, I would go through about 15ml of juice a day. It's extremely wasteful. When I first started vaping a 30ml would last me three weeks. That's why I bought the MTL device. It would make my juice last longer.

Also, I don't buy mass produced Chinese products anymore. Things like Smok, Innokin, and companies like those. They are cheaply made. It felt that I had to buy a new device every year. There are Chinese products that seem durable, but they're not. Thus, I stay away from Chinese mods entirely.

For example, I bought the SX-Mini G Class last year I thought it was durable, it looked stable. It was 250 dollars. It is Chinese made. I recently sent it in for repair, the screen stopped working and it faded. I took good care of it as well.

So I recently bought a Rebel Squonker 250C. I have seen people put some good miles on these. They won't fade either(which was a big issue for me). It's 3D printed Nylon. I want to get a mech squonker. Something like the Reo Grand. It's made out of a solid piece of aluminum. It won't fade. It's highly durable. You can also wash it in the sink. I had one for like 8 years.

SO at the end of the day, I focus on quality products(those don't come from China). To answer your question directly. This is my current setup(Atomizers vary). Oh, this reminds me, I think a lot of vapers are highly inefficient. They use dual coils. They rarely vape over 80 watts. You can use a single coil and get a great vape at 30 watts.

Current setup (Single Coil) helps save juice and produces a great vape. It's a flavor chasing RDA.

It's good to hear a seasoned vet's take on things. I agree with many of your points, I've owned one Smok product when I first started and learned my lesson very quickly. I generally agree on the mass produced Chinese manufactured mods with 2 exceptions, I picked up the Aegis legend for while I'm at work and the thing has been a tank. Second, I really like most of Lost Vape's products, so those would be my 2 exceptions. I see people at my local B&M's buying these, what I call short term disposables, and I almost want to say to them, you know you're going to be replacing that within a year if you're lucky, for the price of a couple you could invest in a high quality mod.

I am also a fan of the Rebel mods, very nice. Dicodes as well.

Funny you mention single coil lower wattage atty's, that's all I own. I recently purchased the B2K and started squonking which has been a great experience.

I still have quite a bit of Boden's BD13 (Al2O3) wicks, they were a lot of fun to play with but had to be hot wrapped. ;)

One of the best I've ever used with mesh was the Origen Genesis (Origenny).

Those look nice. I recently bought some ReadyxWick to try it out again. And yes, I am not messing with that stuff. I found all these fragments of the wick all over the table.

It's good to hear a seasoned vet's take on things. I agree with many of your points, I've owned one Smok product when I first started and learned my lesson very quickly. I saw Matt(SuckMyMod) drop an Aegis and the battery lock fell off. But yes, I bought my brother the Paranormal and it's solid. It's very comfortable too. The Reo Grand was the first squonker. I have a mini version. Squonking was invented back them(2010-2011) a lot of people think it is new.

But the Dicodes seem nice. I want to get myself a Dani Box soon.

    This is the Reo Grand
