Somewhere out there
Thanks for sharing, that was really interesting. So, what does someone who's been vaping as long as you use currently?
I think most of us old timer vapers went for quality. We went thru so many things that didn't last, when we bought for the long haul it had to be quality and reliable. For me I have mostly Provari's, a Reo, a Jac and a Dicodes. I want to be sure I can vape forever LOL!

Started with a 510 kit purchased from China in Dec 09, rcvd 1/22/10, and thought ya I could do this instead of smoke...

The original Silver Bullet with the 18350 batteries! That was an advance! Before the KR808D (the first cartomizer ecig) I used one of those with a 901 atty!

Taryn. Taryn spin method, proax. :)

Or the reverse Taryn spin. :D

The things we do for love!!!

I used to fill cartos with the condom method. But as soon as the first REO arrived, I used cartos with a bottom feeder. It was the best of both worlds!

The Don (Megalodon) from Moju Republic in the UK. Both aluminum and SS versions of this 3.7, 5, 6 or 7.4 VDC mod (depending on the tube configuration and batteries used). Has a reliable lock on or off system.

Mine is the aluminum version with a full set of tubes circa 2012 (bought used). Was a pretty good shirt pocket carry mod in my early vaping days other than the MTL atty's I had been talked into (Pro Tanks, etc) when I am a DL vaper.

After the KR808's I started vaping with had ran their course these were my first 18XXX mech tube mods... and first VW/VV tube mod, all Sigelei (circa mid 2013). A #20 Roller, 19E Brass and 8W (with two of the three tubes)... and from the first preorder for them a ZMAX V5.

I wasn't much of a fan of the telescoping models, so used those mostly in shortest config with RDA's to taste test my new DIY concoctions with as I came up with them.

no juice history?

i started in 2013, and nic quality was really bad

there was no commercially available "salts" and indeed, paax hadn't coined the term

but we did DIY our own, not called salts. People just referenced adjusting PH with common household ingredients suiting some profiles, and reducing nic hit

a popular one, which only protonates a small fraction of the nic, was adding some apple cider vinegar, or citric acid. It was popular for tobacco flavours

others added bicarb, to go further into alkaline, and increase throat hit

my searches suggest that this began around 2011, but i discovered it in 2013 when i began vaping

Look at that massive air hole on that genny ( perhaps the cobra?). One single, 1 mm or less was it .I remember going from 32 and 30 to 28g and drilling out a genny to over 1mm and thinking ,much too airy and just ruined my tank....

There were some mighty fine juices going way back to even before I began, but yes, we did need to know where to find them. I still use many of the same ones I did back in late '11 and early '12.

Some still exist today, others (sadly) do not.

Signs of times. :(

After ego style batteries I bought one of these (~2015)...

evic-mod-kit-original-joyetech%20(4).jpg

My first battery replaceable mod...I loved it.

One of the best introduction ads ever, from what I recall.

I think this was the mod (all futuristic and what-not). Had a lot of folks watching and waiting. It even made the ever-growing (at the time) list of "Provari Killers" (of which a new one popped up almost weekly).

Turned out the only Provari Killer would (eventually) be the US government. Go figure. :\

The Bicarbonate sounds interesting. It is a buffer, it would not make something alkaline or acidic, it neutralizes. But I do see how it can produce a throat hit. I was talking to someone the other day about throat hits. We wanted to increase the throat hit without increasing nicotine.

But, I did do some DYI back in the day. I remember people adding alcohol such as vodka or everclear.

I remember all the crazy videos and methods on "the best way" to fill your cartomizers.
Personally, I never liked the (name?) spin method, always used the rubber cap that came with the cartos, filled with 1/2 way juice and pressed the carto into it.
And then there all sorts of gadgets to 'punch' them for use in tanks.
I came up with the "Drip and Flick" method of filling a carto. Baditude's Cartotank Setup Guide

Best cartotank tool ever was the Slap Yo Momma.

Really? I thought it used 18650 batteries from the very beginning. (Pics or it never happened.)

I am friends with AltSmoke Rob (Winslow) the owner of AltSmoke, and had contacts with "Chad", the designer/manufacturer of all of the AltSmoke mods. The AltSmoke BB used a 14500 battery, but all of the others used an 18650. They never mentioned any 18350 mods to me.

i never tried bicarb myself, but i'm sure a search in DIY section could help :)
