Tips for rebuilding an atomizer?

I've been searching a little since I want to get a mechanical mod and a rda for my birthday in a couple of months and I'm starting to search tips for this so, why are there a lot of gauges to make the coils and what's the difference between using silica wick and cotton, also what's the problem of going sub-ohm since I've see that other vapers say it's dangerous? Thanks for reading:D

You tube is the best. there are also sub forums here on building and al; about ohms etc. baditude has a great info area on the forums. I started and have been using the kayfun lite clone. easy to build and a great starting point for most Here's a video on it Chimney Micro Coil Build In A Kayfun Lite - YouTube

Be safe get the equipment you need like an ohm reader etc. Personally I wouldn't sub ohm until you KNOW what you are doing. Based on battery output and ohming it can be extremely dangerous and it's a bomb in your face kinda thing. All I can suggest research research research.

To answer your questions,

1. different gauge wires bring different resistance (ohms) very generally: thicker the wire (lower the gauge # the thicker the wire) = lower the resistance. But this is all dependent on how you wrap your coils as you can see from different youtube tutorials and posts on here. Which is why when you do decide to start building you should 100% invest in an ohm reader. Cheap ones can be found for like 8 bucks.

2. Wicks: people have different preferences on what wicks they use whether its, silica, cotton, ekowool, etc. Currently the trend is to use cotton as a wick, plus personally I feel like I get better flavor from cotton. Additionally since rebuilds, for the most part use microcoils, macro, whatever, its a lot easier to wick your coils with cotton because its easier to manipulate.

3. The danger part of building is choosing the right batteries for builds. (google Baditude blogs for more information on picking a battery, that is how I learned!). Each battery is built differently and can only safely operate to certain ohms. Which is why you need an ohm reader! (ive sent this chart out a lot, but this is can give you a general idea http://vineyardvapes.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/4jeiawz-e1388383058663.png)

1. I find that cotton is better in every way then silica, it gives better taste it's easier to work with and it's cheeper.
2. If you're going to sub ohm (which i don't recommend for begginers) get an ohm meter and an ohm's law app, check that you're not pushing to much amps (based on you're battery specifications).
3. If you don't start with sub ohming, learn how to make micro coils.
3. 32 AWG is quite usless and too fragile (there's coil braiding using 32 but you're not there yet), 29 or 28 is better.
4. Get an imr battery.
5. Remember that you have no protection circuit, check your stats before you put the battery in, and also remember not to over drain it.
