You forgot a third problem: Air flow issues when attached to some devices. Too little air flow will create too much vacuum in the fire chamber, drawing in too much juice, which will cause gurgling, flooding, and leaking. Solution: Get an Aerotank base.

Ah very good. I have a different method that I am about to try. Just put my order in to trial it....

I'm going to ditch the Kanger coils, and replace them with an Aspire BDC Coil with converter. Parts should be here probably mid week.
This was advised to me by someone who uses it instead of the Kanger Coils, and he's happy with the result.

Will let you know how I get on - if you are interested, of course?

The iClear 30's definitely work better and I just picked up a couple of Aspire BDC tanks and like them even more. Too early to tell though with the Aspire tanks as it has only been a couple of days but no leaking, great flavor and good smoke so far, liking them better than the iClear 30's so far. I have an original Protank and a II but they just collect dust now, tired of having to fiddle with them to get them to work right.

Sorry, I mean the iClear30S's, not the iClear30's. iC30 didn't really produce much more vapor or flavor than the PTII in my opinion. But, the iC30S was a game changer for me. It makes a difference to actually experience a good vape rather than everyone telling you what it's like. I'm still experimenting. Just ordered a carto-tank. But I have 3 iC30S's now and know that I can count on them.

if you are looking for minimal maintenance, great flavor, decent to good vapor production a cartotank is the way to go. i have 3 with 2 more on the way to match up with particular devices. replacing the Vivi Novas and iclear 30 as my go to topper for out and about. JMO

Although this thread was started by someone having a gripe, it has been really educational. I use a BCC Evod, and really want to try the cotton wick. I also heard that if you take out one or even both of the flavour wicks you get a better vaping experience, although others say it's not noticeable.

I haven't used a protank before, but would imagine that the Evod would perform similarly as they are both BCC and use almost the same wicking system, I get the gurgling sometimes, and I just unscrew it off the battery blow down the mouth piece and push a rolled up piece of loo roll or paper towel down and it soaks it all up. My unit is horizontal often and I don't get leaks or anything.

I have no leaking and good air flow but I get a burnt taste from my PT2 even on a low voltage.
Suggestions?
How low a voltage? What's your coil resistance? How old is your coil? What kind of juice?

Too much airflow will result in too little vacuum and too little juice getting pulled into the coil. Clogged wicks can cause the same thing.

Every time someone complains about the protank ll people swoop in and offer up all the quick fixes and analogies to why it doesn't work properly. Well...you shouldn't have to take something out of the box and do anything except start using it. First thing is I don't want to keep my protank "topped off" to make it work properly because I may not want to vape another tank of that particular flavor. So I could pour the old flavor back into the bottle right...No, because it's burned up like any and every juice I put in it whether it's clear or dark or high pg or low pg. I've had 2 protanks for almost 4 months and there's no fixing these things. They're gonna gurgle they're gonna leak on your battery they're gonna burn up your juice they gonna burn thru your coils and they're gonna work great for the first vape of the day after you dry your battery replace your coil and put new juice in them! I put the top off of one of my wifes evods on to my joy tech ego (where my protank used to be) and it works great been using the same coil for a week and it hasn't even started to blacken the wick and the battery last 3 days. I was about to give up on ecigs because though the evod worked ok I could drain the battery in no time but I have found the perfect combination by swapping the heads.

If you want to vent/stir up controversy by all means, proceed, if you actually want a remedy, buy an aerotank base for $4-6, makes a WORLD of a difference :vapor:

I have so many tanks that have had various results. From leaking to gurgle to burning coils immediately! An iClear 30 is a hard one to beat. I love my EVOD too! I have a VV2 eGo and a 2.4 ohm coil in the EVOD and absolutely find it hard to top. I am sure if I wanted to spend a small fortune experimenting with others I could find something better but I can't substantiate it when what I already have works so well. Maybe it's just dumb luck that I got it right in the beginning. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good!

Since you can put a mini Protank base on a full-sized Protank, I would expect that you can put an Aerotank base on a mini Protank as well, but I think it might look a little strange. ;)

Oh, I see. I'm new to all this, so thank you for your reply. I have mostly minis, but do not like the airy draw I get from them. I was hoping this would be a fix for the mini.

Cotton wicks make a difference :) was gifted a couple by another ECF member who had rebuilt the coils into micro coils with cotton wicks

a bad day at the track is better than a day of not running at all

Gotta be careful. If your minis run well with that "airy" draw and you tighten up the draw significantly from there, then you risk gurgling and flooding if you restrict the airflow too much. You see it's the partial vacuum you're creating in the firechamber when you draw that pulls more liquid in there. Reducing the airflow will create more vacuum and pull in more liquid; in some cases too much. That's what tends to happen with full-sized Protanks when they're screwed onto some devices that do not allow them to breathe properly.
