Has anyone tried making their coils with titanium wire? Just ordered 30g titanium, am going to try making coils for my Russian 99% using titanium and raw, organic cotton.

Since the titanium is lighter, stronger, can handle temps up to 1,000 degrees and surgical grade, thought I would try it.

Anyone have tips?

I haven't heard of anyone using it, but would like to know how it works out.

I did read up on it just now though. :)

Titanium is not a good conductor of electricity. If the conductivity of copper is considered to be 100%, titanium would have a conductivity of 3.1%. From this it follows that titanium would not be used where good conductivity is a prime factor. For comparison, stainless steel has a conductivity of 3.5% and aluminum has a conductivity of 30%.

Electrical resistance is the opposition a material presents to the flow of electrons. Since titanium is a poor conductor, it follows that it is a fair resistor.

Hmmm, thanks for imput. My CERA has titanium coils, so I looked at other high end coils and they advertise titanium coils also.

I bought the wire in a surgical quality for just $10.00 for 25 feet (smallest they had). Will make a coil, test the ohm, then report back.

Might be slower to warm up. Will probably make a couple with different number of turns on the wire. Probably start with one that is 12 turns/loops and on that is 6.

Nice ! I'm thinking since titanium has poor conductivity. This could be the answer to Genesis atties. I was thinking of using titanium mesh, but never could find any. I never thought about the coil though :D

I played with Ti wire, it's fun that's for sure!

Forget flaming it to take the tension out as it just bursts into flames LOL

Found it to be very fragile and a whole heap of hassle which for me made it a waste of time, then again I'd love to hear of anyone got it working well and get some hints and tips :D

The one other problem would be that 30g is mighty thin. Even when I first started building, I used nothing smaller than 28g and that can still snap with one extra twist on the screw on an IGO-W. That heat rating would be more than likely across a specified surface area or volume. Not likely able to withstand 1,000 deg F on 30g wire, but I have been wrong before.....once, maybe twice

Titanium wire is not for genisis users - hots spots, coiling with drill bit, etc etc, wire will burst into flames. Will work with silica if your careful

Jimi D, keep us posted. There are atomizers on the market that are made with titanium coils. They are used for vaping waxes and oils. I was thinking a titanium coil would/might work better with VG, no worries about thick and sticky.

Still waiting for my titanium wire, it was back ordered. Maybe a titanium coil would work better with ecowool? Don't think my organic cotton would work, probably burn.

Tried the titanium in a Steam Turbine. Burned out each time I got it built. Tried 4 times, then thought it might be the mesh, so tried it on an APO dripper, got a couple of awesome hit then it burned out. Checked the APO for hot spots, there were none. Still researching, could be I didn't use enough wraps on the coil. Looks like you have to use around 25 wraps with 30g to get a 1.7.

Soooo, I switched tactics and used 28g g-plat in my Kayfun, wick of organic cotton. WOW!!!!!!!! It is amazing. 9 wraps came out at .45, I have gone through 4 tanks of juice and the 1st hit was as tasty as I am still getting. This set up goes through juice like I have never experienced. Hit the button for a little over 1 second, continue to draw for 5 to 8 seconds and watch hugh clouds :)

Used the g-plate in my steam turbine, good but not as good as the Kayfun build. Added a layer of cotton around the mesh and that made a difference.

Think I may try more wraps in the kayfun next time.

    My first attempt
10 wraps on a 2mm screwdriver of 2 strand twisted 30ga grade 1 (unalloyed) Ti. Came out to .5ohm. Cotton wick.

Broke the wire tightening the screw on the one end, way easier to break than nichrome. Was able to save it but resulted in the goofy last wrap. Been using it for 20 min now and it is fantastic. I vape 50/50 unflavored with a dab of menthol exclusively, and there is a definite improvement in taste. However the most noticeable difference from regular resistance wire is how smooth it vapes. Its hard to explain, but I've never done a .5 build that just hits so smooth. Looking at the GG thread it might be due to a larger change in resistance as the wire heats up?, not sure.

I don't use drippers all that often so I don't have a lot to compare it to. Ill try a tank build later.
