Hey guys I don't have time to look for it, but if someone can find the independent American study it's a lot better.

They have a quote from the insurance company
When he was presented with the data he said that even though the data's accurate, they won't reverse the smoking increase because it will send the wrong message.

Theres a reason why everyone wants to increase the tax on analogs
I have never heard a single person suggest making cigs illigeal.

Patches suck, e-cigs work!

Do you really want all the smokers to convert?

The government still needs it's money, and e-cigs will become their weapon instead of our savior

...So in the long run smokers pay more and cost less, bottom line!!!!

You are right, but you are only looking at a small sliver of the cost associated with smoking, health care.

There are many other costs to society:

Environmental
(treehugger.com)

  • At least 4.5 trillion [non-biodegradable] filter-tipped cigarettes are deposited annually somewhere in the world
  • Each year nearly 600 million trees are destroyed to provide fuel to dry tobacco. Put in another way one tree is destroyed for every 300 cigarettes.
  • Methyl bromide, widely used as a fumigant in developing countries for tobacco, contributes significantly to ozone depletion
  • As well as being hazardous to users, chemicals may run off into water courses, contaminating local water supplies
  • Tobacco is particularly potassium-hungry, absorbing up to six times as much as other crops, leaving soil in poor condition for essential food and cash crops
  • Modern cigarette manufacturing machines use more than six kilometres of paper per hour
  • In 1995 worldwide tobacco manufacturing produced 2.26 billion kilograms of solid waste and 209 million kilograms of chemical waste
Social

  • Tobacco and poverty are inextricably linked...the poorest households in some low-income countries as much as 10% of total household expenditure is on tobacco.
  • Smoking can cause reduced production by an effective reduction in the size of the work force as a result of the deaths or sickness (resulting in absenteeism) of workers
  • Smoking causes fires at home and in workplaces and in some countries is a significant cause of bush and forest fires
  • Recent evidence suggests that smoking may be a cause of road and other accidents
  • considerable resources are allocated to public health programs providing education about the harmful effects of smoking
  • the [intangible] cost of pain and suffering loved ones experience from loosing family to tobacco
You have to look at the big picture, not just one sector.

I live in Dallas too. I agree with what you are saying and don't forget about all the money the medical industry makes off the illness caused by cigarettes. That is a whole other thread. There are so many ways govt makes money off cigarettes.

I smoked for around 12 years or so too. I have been vapping for a year and half and I have wasted lots of $$ on inferior products. When I first started vapping there wasn't a lot of info on the quality products.

I hope if the eciggs become main stream the quality will improve kinda like the car industry got they're {MODERATED} together and made better quality cars. The forums have really helped people make better decisions on quality products. The forums and reviews will cause the manurfactures to build quality products , especially if they feel they are loosing business due to bad reviews. Now that this is catching on they will have to improve they're products to be more competitive in the market place. I'm like everyone else and fear too much regulation and taxes.

Trog is an example of someone who has made a good concept better by inventing the screwdriver. I have one and I love it but I have only had it for a few weeks - so time will tell. I'm vapping for the long haul. I like having my cake and eating it too.
