To start or not to start?

I have been continuing my research into EC's and have come across a few posts on this site and other sites that said if you do not smoke analogs do not start on EC's. Though that is basically the gist of the post, the posters never really give a reason as to why not to start.

Like I have posted previously, I have been smoking for something like six or seven months, and nothing like a pack a day. I smoke about four to five sticks a day, but not everyday. I am also able to go weeks and months without having an analog.

With that said I do like what smoking analogs makes me feel, I do not know if it is psychological or what, but after smoking a few I feel totally relaxed. Still the most I have smoked in a day was 1/2 of pack.

So would it be safe for me to utilize EC's? My thinking it is if I want to start smoking EC's is the best to start out with since you are not getting the other chemicals that you are getting in analogs.

I would stay away from analogs and e cigs all together.

Your goal should be to NOT get addicted to nicotine imo. Think of e cigs like a nicotine patch or nic gum.

A friend asked about vaping instead of her regular smoking when she drank, I strongly advised against it. I know it sounds funny but I think having a couple analogs once every month or so when you drink would be easier on your body than taking in nicotine on a regular basis imo.

That is the question everyone is asking. And it is the wrong question.
The real question to ask is "Are they better than tobacco cigarettes?"

There is no evidence to support any claim that Ecigs are Safe.
Simply because they have not existed very long, so therefore there are no long term studies.

Any evidence we have is purely circumstantial and anectotal.
The only proven harmful chemical in an ecig is Nicotine.
It is arguably one of the most addictive substances in existence.
It does cause some heart problems and high blood pressure.
All of which are treatable conditions.
Many believe Nicotine to be just slightly worse than caffine.
You are certainly better off to stay away from Nicotine 100%.

All the other chemicals in Ecigs are unproven (either way, safe or unsafe) for inhaliation.
But none of the chemicals in Ecigs (including the nicotine) have been proven to cause cancer.
While somehere in the neighborhood of 60 - 70 chemicals KNOWN to cause cancer exist in regular tobacco cigarettes.

We vapers merely believe that Without all the cancer causing chemicals, Certainly ecigs are safER than tobacco cigarettes.
Notice the workd safeER, not necessarily 100% safe, just safER than cigarettes.

I can certainly breathe better, and I no longer cough in the middle of the night.

If some years down the road, there is some proven unsafe factor in Ecigs, so be it.
But for now, I just believe that it can't be any worse than tobacco cigarettes, and I feel better using Ecigs.

Two things,
One is that Ecigs do not always have nicotine. They only do if and when you choose them to have it.

Two is that even one analog is bad. One analog alone has over 60 known carcinogens, and nicotine is not even one of them. In fact, analogs are even bad for those around you and the home of the smoker. A smoker and his smoking home emits more toxins than an ecig even contains, and I mean long after the analog is gone, this is what they call third-hand smoke. Not only is my opinion to stay off of a single analog, but also to stay away from second-hand, used smoke.

Thank you for your response. The majority of what I know about EC's is from my research and what I have read on this and other boards.

When I started to read about EC's I was attracted to them because I am a technological geek and it intreged me. I was smoking one to three analogs a day or a cigar and two analogs. Depending on my mood.

My thinking about it was I started smoking to relax and like the feeling of just lounging in the backyard with a nice cigar or analog and relaxing. I can easily see myself going from a few a day to a pack (or more) a day.

EC's are (IMO) healthier for me in terms that you can control the nicotine levels. You can smoke around others without them getting the smell of smoke on them and in their lungs. You can smoke anywhere.

Thank you for your post.

Never even thought of the op using no nic juice tbh. If that is the case its just more of a reason not to start vaping. If you aren't addicted to nicotine don't smoke or vape.

Yes cigarettes are bad for you and everyone around you, we all know that. The op is asking about how safe vaping is, nobody really knows. If I had a choice between smoking a cigarette a week or vaping all day everyday i would choose the analog . Unfortunately for me analogs were like pringles, lol.

I think part of it is that I don't want any part of getting someone addicted to e cigs thinking they are safe and finding out otherwise later on. So many variables to consider and I pretty much agree with everything in this thread so far.

All I can say is I smoked cigarettes for 22 years and I started vaping about 9 months ago. A month into vaping I tried a cigarette again and it was the worse thing I ever tasted. I never went back to another cigarette again. I can tell a HUGE difference with my health. I just finished Firefighter school and there would of been no way I could of done it if I was still smoking cigarettes. I believe that vaping has truely saved my life. I love what seems like an endless choice of flavors out there. If you're thinking of starting vaping to get off of cigarettes I think you'd be stupid not to. The biggest advantage of vaping is that you get 0 carcinagens. Which are the nasty cancer causing ingredients in cigarettes.. Good luck.

I was going to start off with 0 nicotine in e-liquid, and if that doesn't do it for me, I'll go ahead and up my level, which I assume is easy to do.

Thank you for the responses, I appreciate.

What do you mean 'if that doesn't do it' ?
It will do it, because you're not smoking one a week due to nicotine, it's something else.

If you smoke one cigarette a week, then you need to up the flavor, not the icotine. Evidently you're not after nicotine. Stay with zero, but did you check out the link above? A cigarette is too bad, every single one. I wish you hadn't recommended one cigarette to your vaping friend.

Good idea Blake!

0 nic should stem your recent increase in cigarette consumption and eventually get you off them entirely.

Best of luck to you!

OP, the other reason we're pretty opposed to non-smokers picking up PV's is, the more people out there like YOU, (and please, no offence), the more you prove the people trying to ban these wonderful, LIFE SAVING DEVICES, right.

They're trying to BAN electronic cigarettes. One of their 'points' is that non-smokers, (like you!), will be attracted to them because they think they're COOL.

That's YOU in a nut-shell.

They are NOT cool.

They are NOT toys.

The only thing your lungs are equipped to breathe is fresh, clean AIR.

Sure, they may be healthier than cigarettes..but YOU DON'T SMOKE!!

So please, do us ALL a favor, and find something else 'techie' to amuse yourself with, the rest of us are trying to keep these things legal.

I am sorry I am not able to check the link out that you posted my work has a block on it, but will check it out when I get home.

I never recommended one cigarette to any of my friends, and I was purely talking about myself.

Thank you for the information I will just the link out tonight when I get home.

I apologize, bigboyblake, I was confused and meant I wish brian would have never recommended an analog cigarette to the vaping lady.

Now, about the link, if you can post here at ECF, then I'm sure you can access the thread, because it's all in here at ECF, but check it when you can, I wish brian's friend could too.
