I'm not sure I have this right I thought TA would make my juice really dark but I bought the TA from ECX I mixed it at 1 drop or ml then used a few drops of that in a bottle of 80vg and it's still pretty much clear. I am trying to taste it on it's own but really not sure how to mix it

ECX I believe is already mixed down to 50/50 strength so try 2ml per 10ml this will give you approx a 10% concentrate solution. Use that starting at 1% and work up from there 1% at a time until your satisfied.

About to buy the rustica, I have not worked with any TA yet in my tobaccos, but I have been jonesing for a real pipe tobacco and cigars...not going to smoke again though, and seems TA will be a few steps closer to getting to a real tobacco taste. Plan to mix it down to 10% like Hoosier said, and go from there likely only 1% or so in the final juice. I really only have FA tobacco flavors right now though, and TA may help them out, may get some NET from myvapejuice, but still on the fence with it.

The final amount of concentrate is really up to your own taste. I agree with hoosier as far as mixing the tar down to a concentrate 1ml TA to 10ml pga/pg. From there use that mixed down concentrate starting at 1% and work up until satisified. I actually do 4% concentrate in my mixes because I love a good strong tobacco taste but for others that may be to much. Also your mixes will be cloudy.

Thanks guys! Now if I can find a flavoring with spiciness. I'm not trying to clone but I want something that adds a spicy note like found in AHL Smooth Criminal or NT Radioactive, just to give ref point. Do different TAs taste different has anyone found a difference among brands? I don't know what I was looking for but I'm not sure this is it. Danny what do you mix your TA with?

All over the place
It's a pure tobacco alkolyd that adds a truer tobacco taste to tobacco mixes. In it's pure form you make a 2% concentrate or 2 drops per 10ml 50/50 PG/PGA base and add to the mix at starting at 2% and work up until it's right for your taste. There is also ready to use premixed which you add right to the mix and there is 50/50 mix down which is already mixed by half so to make your concentrate you would use 4 drops instead of 2. What you get depends on where you buy it.

danny45, first of all let me just say that I read a lot of what you write and you definitely know your way around DIYing -- and you've helped me a lot. Thanks! But, I have to correct you on this: tobacco absolute is not a pure alkaloid in the least bit. It may contain some tobacco alkaloids like nicotine, nornicotine, anabatine, anabasine, etc., but what it does contain in it, even in its undiluted state, is considered trace at best especially when you factor in its dilution. Considering TA is most used in the perfume industry, applying a pure tobacco alkaloid(s) to the skin would be no bueno. TA is basically just aromatic compounds, fats and essential oil-like "stuff" from tobacco leaves (plus some trivial amounts of tobacco alkaloids).
