I think what we're talking about here is the Elusive Smell of Combustion, and there's just no way to reproduce that distinctive odor without actually burning something. Because it's Fall, I'm reminded of the wonderful (to me) aroma of autumn leaves burning; you can't get the same "taste" by chewing on leaves

I was a pipe smoker for 20 years, and I've found a lot of tobacco vapes that very successfully mimic pipe tobacco, but few indeed that successfully mimic cigarettes. Actually, that's fine by me ... I'd just as leave forget them entirely!
