Had my first reg scheduled DR appt since I quit smoking. Told the nurse during the pre about it and she was thrilled, until she found out I did it vaping. Well she said it is just as bad as smoking cigarettes. I was aghast. I started to challenge her but she said you can read 'anything' on the internet so don't believe that. :O

OK so went on to the Doc. General chat and he said I see you still smoke. Nope I said I quit. He said you 'vape', same thing. Both will kill you and cause heart disease and a myriad of other not so nice things. High blood pressure, CANCER, poor lung function (COPD) etc. :O :O

Did a quick check of the walls and not 1 diploma to be found and english may be his third language.
Unfortunately changing docs is not an option. I am 100% treated by the VA and live in the woods. I am 'lucky' to have been accepted into this small clinic that saves me 100 miles of driving. So not many choices.

So based on this I can only assume you are all paid BT shills :)

I guess it's a 'good' thing vaping was banned in the workplace in Florida yesterday. Someone has to think for us.

it truly is sad that the medical professionals are just as naive as everyone else listening to media hype....
then you sometimes get lucky and find those that aren't
during one of my er visits the nurse asked if i smoked I said no but I vape, he patted his shirt pocket and winked so that's a no you don't smoke or use tobacco products

One of the big anti vaping advocates is galaxy Smith Kline, makers of the patch. Maybe ask them if the stuff they read came from them

It boggles my mind that this stuff exists and is allowed.

How can you allow medication companies to give kick backs or compensation to doctors for prescribing their drugs? How can you allow tobacco companies to fund politicians seeking election and pay for their campaigns?

In what world will people be completely against the government taking their hard earned money to fund public healthcare, not allow the government to dictate which guns they can or cannot own, but are perfectly fine with corporations making those decisions over elected officials?

odd.... I was a 2-3 PAD smoker and my Dr. was always on my .... to quit.... took up vaping and quit the ciggies. When I went into the Dr. for my annual checkup, he did the standard breath deep routine and noticed I didnt snap crackle and pop anymore. He was totally suprised that I cleared up as well as I did and told me my lungs sound as clear as someone who doesnt/didnt smoke... he suggested that I should continue vaping and stay away from the ciggies... he knew that the gums/lozenges/patches didnt work for me... he was going to prescribe Chantix for me ( while I was still smoking) but realized I was too nuts for it ;)

The internet, and in particular social media, is full of fake news and misinformation. The facts are, BT and BP are losing money to vaping, and finance anti-vaping propaganda due to their personal financial interests. The FDA receives much of their funding from both BT and BP, so they are not about to cut the hands that feed them.

The US scientific community has been slow to accept vaping as a healthier lifestyle choice because most of their studies have been sponsored by, you guessed it, BT and BP. The UK has been much more scientific and rational. Pretty hard to "fake" these videos.

Consider it an opportunity to educate your doctor on the issue.

Good luck with that one. That would take a lot of patience.

Yea, that was a bunch of HS, IMO!

Was sneaky & underhanded of them to attach the proposed ban on vaping in the same indoor places where smoking is prohibited (with "exceptions")...to the Amendment to ban offshore oil drilling. ;) They knew full well the ban on oil drilling would most likely sail right through, so, "Hey, let's throw the vaping ban in there with it to be assured it would pass, too." :grr:

I still don't understand how they can do that...attaching totally unrelated things to each other in 1 Amendment. They did that with several different Amendments on the ballot. :censored:

I can see a 'potential' for copd. But that potential also exists from the fumes of new carpeting or paint. Who's to say nurses don't suffer effects from Lysol fumes for 30 years but thought it was 100 percent from second hand smoke?

My point is this: not smoking means those pollutants don't end up in your lungs. Yet, that does not mean other man-made stuff doesn't cause issues over time.

My cardiologist told me "your lung doctor may not approve of vaping but I do simply because it is well known in my family that tobacco smokes clogs our arteries and vaping does not.

The ignorance in the medical profession is scary. I hate going to the doctor unless I can already diagnose myself, I have an open wound you can't miss or a bone protruding. I tend to get misdiagnosed too many times when it's not painfully obvious what the problem is. Too many quacks in the profession.

As a retired Physician's Assistant and RN, who spent over 40 years in the medical field, I agree. I've seen too many quacks in my time. My medical professional is a PA, and I would much rather be treated by her than an MD. She supports vaping.

I guess the "luck" you are referring to is bad luck.

My advice is to drive the 100 miles and get a second opinion just the one time. Then tell your local doctor, during your next appointment, what you were told by the other doctor.

Problem solved !.

He doesn't really need to do that if the OP believes vaping is safer than smoking. Just continue vaping as you were. If they ever ask you if you still smoke, say no. Because the truth is you are not smoking. If they ask if you vape (which I bet that they won't), just tell them you no longer smoke. Period.

This is not medical advice, just common sense.

I figured the best way to educate the local doctor's surgery would be by proxy. Seeing as the op isn't a doctor.

Seeing another doctor for his opinion on vaping won't convince the original doctor to change his. This 100 mile trip to see another doctor would be fruitless.
