Hello,

I've recently ventured into the exciting world of vaping. I had been dead set on purchasing product from Green Smoke, Halo or V2. But after reading multiple posts, many of you suggested I purchase my own starter type kit. This is where I'm confused.

The vape shop I visited today had things that I had never seen before. It was quite intimidating for me. The store owner was very helpful and had multiple items he believed might assist me in my crossover to non tobacco items. He suggested I purchase Square E-Cigarettes, then purchase some sort of extension/adapter piece, I think it was called Joytech and an E liquid called, Desert. I sampled what he put together and I pretty much enjoyed the taste. I think the price for the Square was $25.00 and maybe $40.00-$50 more for the other. I obviously have no clue... From what I've attempted to describe, is this what many of you vape with?

I was also amazed at how much $$$ money I will save by purchasing the liquid. Is it better to purchase the liquid or the pre-filled cartomizers?

If possible, can you please leave a post and explain what you think I might benefit from? More specific, list an itemized breakdown of what I should ask for when I return to that vape shop to build my own kit. Links would also be appreciative.

I'm in no hurry to rush off an pay retail from a smoke shop if I can get the same or even better online. Please provide links so I can see exactly what Ill be getting. Also, is the EGO battery universal? Does it fit/connect to all?

I currently smoke 1 pack of Marlboro Light 100's per day.

Thank you for your knowledge and i sincerely appreciate you taking the time to advice me.

Welcome to ECF. You've come to the best place to learn about e-cigarettes and where to get advice from experienced vapors.

I don't recognize the names of the devices recommended by the vape shop you visited, so I have no clue as to what their quality might be. I will only suggest to you what the majority of experienced vapors from here will recommend to you. I don't recommend getting the small cigalike batteries; most people find that their power output and usable battery life to be inadequate for long term use. Most will recommend an eGo battery, often considered a mid-level battery which will provide much greater satisfaction. These will be roughly the size of a cigar. Below is what a typical eGo battery setup should look like:

vivinovamini-twist.jpg Ego battery with a Vision Vivi Nova tank.

There are a variety of "toppers", or juice delivery devices (the items that hold the nicotine e-liquid and make the vapor). I generally recommend getting two types, in case one type doesn't suit your expectations. Below is a picture dictionary of the more common devices with a video on how they are used and filled.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...k-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html

Concerning juices, 18-24 mg nicotine strength is generally the recommendation for a 1 ppd smoker. I recommend purchasing multiple smaller bottle consisting of different flavors until you find a flavor best suited to your tastes. Once you find one you like, you can order more in a larger size bottle.

It is much more economical to fill your own devices than to buy the pre-filled cartomizers/cartridges. Most of us find that out very early in our vaping experience.

Good luck. If you have additional questions we are always here to help.

EDIT TO ADD NEW INFO: I just googled "Square E-cigs". Best Disposable Electronic Cigarettes Los Angeles , Square 82 Are these what the vape shop had? If so, I do NOT recommend these. These are disposable e-cigs. By the look of the website, I'd stay clear from anything like these. You want a rechargeable battery. Preferably an Ego battery.

Hey hats and welcome.

Let me start by saying anything you get that works to get you off the analogs (real cigarettes) is a good thing!

With that said, I (and lots of other probably before I can get his post finished) would recommend some kind of eGo battery and a clearomizer of some kind. The exact details depend on your budget a bit. You should be able to get a good eGo starter kit locally for around $50 - $75. If you order online then that same kit ranges from $17 - $45 depending on the vendor.

If you are sensitive to your budget and you can wait (doesn't sound like it as you have already checked out the local vape shop) then you can order something like this from FastTech but it will take 7 - 12 days to show up. You can also look down the lower left side for a selector that show lots of similar options.

If you want to get it right away then use that same link as visuals for what to look for. Ask for an eGo starter kit. Clearomizers are Vision CE4 or CE5, Kanger T2 or T3, EVOD, and lots more. These will all let you buy juice and fill your PV instead of prefilled disposable things.

Good Luck and welcome to vaping!

Great advice from the other posts. I shop from fasttech all the time. I bought my first kit from a store. A ego style battery a clearimizer and a charger for 25.00. They gave me a 10 ml bottle of juice free. It's best to have at least 2 batteries so you have one to use while charging the other. Also have multiple cartomizers. Welcome to the site and good luck.

Good advice above - I'd read more here, and consider a "kit" that's based on an EGO battery, rather than "Square" if it's that one linked above.

You WILL almost certainly though, spend some of your savings for a while trying out new devices. Most of us start with a battery like an EGO, or even smaller, shaped like a cigarette, then many people get bigger, longer lasting batteries with other features like adjustable power. And there are a lot of different devices to hold the juice - a cartridge, or a "clearomizer," etc.

What I'd recommend you look for: EGO or 510 connections - this lets you keep your battery, but change what holds the juice. Or change what holds the juice, but keep your battery. These are the most popular "standard" for the connection between those peices.

i see you're in the los angeles area - there are a TON of b&m shops in southern ca that can help you out with a good set-up and a few different flavors of juice. if you walk into one and tell them you're new to vaping, a decent shop will recommend something like an ego, ego twist, or vision spinner battery, and an evod, vivi nova, or CE-style clearomizer (the part that holds the juice). a full kit (including battery, charger, and clearomizer) should be somewhere around $50.

I am new to vaping as well. I bought a sample set of juice from Halo. It came with 6 different flavors of tobacco juice. Tribeca seemed to be most popular and for good reason. I ended up buying 3 big bottles of it. I smoked 1 pk of Marlboro lights a day. I am using the 12mg. It works well for me. I bought the Inferno kit from Volcano. I am loving on it. I have not smoked an analog cig since the day I got my kit in. That's been about a month. I don't miss it.

Good Luck.

I use an evod clearomizer and a egoc-twist battery. The evod is the top piece that holds the juice and the windows that it has lets you see how much juice you have left. Thats why I like them and the evod is pretty durable it has an aluminium sleeve over it that helps protect the tank from damage. The egoc-twist battery alows you to adjust the voltage input that can raise how many watts the device is using. That is based off of yhe standard ohms law and you can find an ohms law calculator and use it to see how many watts delivers you're perfect vape. As for getting a starter kit you could look into vapingme.com and go to the getting started page and it explains what you'll need. I prefer the kanger evods over the ce4 and ce2. Welcome to the fourms.

Where in Los Angeles are you? There are a ton of good vape shops in our area, but there are also a ton that are questionable at best - little more than smoke shops with a couple of cig-a-likes and ego knock-offs.

Knowing what area you're in would help people recommend good, reliable shops :)

Hi There! I definitely suggest an eGo. I'm pretty new too and LOVE my eGo. This is the kit I have:

Vape On Starter Kit | Vape On Liquids

It's simple and all you do is fill up the CE-4 Clearo's with liquid and you're set to go ;)

I get my CE-4 Clearo's here: Vision EgO V3 Dual Coil Clearomizer

In the past I have used e cigs (Joye510) that cartridges, and e cigs (vEppo) that that cartomizers, and I wayyy prefer my eGo with the clearomizer :) Works so much better, and gives off way more vapor.

While sometimes I have found learning the ins and outs of vaping can be trial and error, it's also a lot of fun ;) Kind of like a hobby!

Happy Vaping :vapor:

I took notes from various threads/articles/youtube, and then decided what I thought I would like, made a list and went with what was on my list. I got overwhelmed also. but just narrowed down my list. and made a final decision and stuck with that. I did go to the local smkoe shop but found they were more expensive then on-line stores. I also tried not to "over" think anything. steeping, mods, mahs, juice, atomizers, clearomizers, cartomizers AHHHHH!!!! Soooo much to learn

Oh perfect - I'm in Simi Valley :)

So far, my favorite shops are:

805 Vapor - Thousand Oaks. A great selection of the better, name brand juices. They also have a nice selection of the higher-end mods, while still keeping the basic ego set-ups. The staff is very knowledgeable about vaping. They do get a bit crowded though, so you may have to wait to be helped.

The Vapor Hut - Thousand Oaks. Another smoke shop which has expanded to include vaping. They have an amazing selection of tanks, but not so much in the battery dept. I also am not sure how knowledgeable they are about vaping. Very nice, but I got the impression that they were kinda new to the whole thing.

The Vape Theory - Glendale. This is a really cool spot. They have a good range of set-ups from basic to pro. The guys here are knowledgeable and helpful and very friendly. (This might be my favorite spot - but sadly, it's a bit far for me.)

Never Light Again (NLA) - Canoga Park. I was unimpressed with both the selection and knowledge of the staff.

Vape 4 U - Canoga Park. This isn't a true vape shop in that it's a cigarette shop that expanded to include a vapor bar - but they have a pretty good selection considering, and the owner is very helpful. They mix their own juices here, and they've got some pretty good flavors. They are a bit expensive though IMHO

Vape Dept. - Santa Clarita. These are the guys that got me hooked up with my first ego set-up. They've got a decent selection of equipment and the best prices I've seen at any B&M. They do tend to run out of certain juices frequently though :(

All of the places I mentioned are happy to let you sit and try as many flavors as you like :)

I'm actually going today to check out a few places in Sherman Oaks, so I'll let you know how that goes.
