Hi everyone. I'v been smoking for almost 4 years and attempted to quit multiple times. I normally smoked Marlboro Smooth and today I just bought an E-cig(cig20 24mg menthol).

So far it seems to have kept me from smoking, but I have a question about vaping. Is it normal to have a hard time using e-cigs on the first day? Has anyone coughed and had minor pain in the throat?

vaping is different than smoking. You need to do a slow draw. I prefer to draw into my mouth and then inhale into my lungs. I generally do a 6 - 7 second slow pull and enjoy the flavor before inhaling.

I have been vaping for almost 2 months and I still have a rough time first thing in the morning. My first 2 - 3 pulls usually make me cough slightly, but after that it is smooth sailing. It takes time to learn to draw on an e-cig. Just practice pulling slower and easier than you would on a real cig. You will get it soon enough.

Wow I generally do a 2 sec drag, but I inhale and vape through my nose and then the rest through my mouth. If I drag for 4 sec I'll start coughing from too much vapor, LoL.

Yup, I think dry throat/irritation can be caused by dryness when you vape. I always drink something when I vape.

little bit of info: although it feel totally foreign, most flavor (and nicotine) is actually absorbed via mucous membranes (nose and mouth). inhaling gently for a few secs then exhaling through nose will cut through the "i cant taste crap" moments. you will probably not do this a lot in the first few weeks, as you body is crying out "OMG give me a smoke!!!". Once you get through that, or hit the point of "why can't i taste anything today??" this is the time to experiment with how ot inhale (Gosh I wish someone would have told me this when I was closer to "sane" in my quitting smoking journey!)

Although it feel counterintuitive, try taking slow drag, holding in mouth for a few sec, then exhaling through nose and see what that does for you. Takes some practice, but you might be surprised. one of the things I wish i had known (but probably would not have appreciated!) earlier!

Congrats Miguel! Yup you are now a Vapist... Im 15 days clean and nicless. I obsessed on these boards and equipment. If you decide to go with the drip system that is cutting edge heres my suggestion and most cost effective best stuff available, short of ordering from over seas.

1 or 2 of these.

Ego 650 Twist Kit -
510 650Mah Stainless Excaliber Ego Twist Kit [ss Exc 650 twist kit] - $53.00 : Vapors Choice, Ecigarettes & Parts

Ask heads around here for the best E Liquid vendors Im still lookin'.

You shouldn't have many side effects because your still getting nicotine and hand to mouthin' with the Ecig. The worst of it, both good and bad will last about 12 days of hacking up dead heads from your lungs.

Serious Congrats!

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, did you get another mg level in case it's the nicotine hurting your throat? Secondly, are you using a pre-filled cartridge that came with a kit? I couldn't use a gas station e-cig; it made me cough horribly and really hurt my chest and I had to grab my inhaler. When I bought a different kit from another place, I didn't have any problems with coughing or needing my inhaler. I never used 24mg nicotine, either, although my boyfriend uses that without it bothering him and he smoked a lot less than me before we quit.

Yes I'm using a pre-filled cartridge that came with the kit from a liquor store I bought it from.

Serious Congrats!

I'll have to look this up. I have very little knowledge about e-cigs.

Congrats to you for switching! It takes little time getting used to. In the first two weeks I coughed a little but after that you'll feel just fine. The important thing is to remember that you've made the right decision by choosing a healthier alternative. Stick to it and you'll be happy that you did. If quitting ever gets tough on you, just come over to the forum to seek motivation ;) we're here to help.

I've been vaping now for almost a week and I think I may have vaped a little too much yesterday... Today my throat is absolutely killing me. I generally vape 1.5 carts a day, it's 6:00pm and I've only vaped .4ml of a 1.6ml cart.

I came searching for a "throat" thread because It's really bad today and wanted to know if it will go away.

I'll try dragging slowly like all of the advice as well as inhaling into my mouth and then into my lungs and see how we go, but I definately feel your pain.
