You are truely an inspiration!

I can identify with a lot of your experience, I think most of us can. It is good to have your lungs back, huh?

I almost cannot remember what it was like before I started smoking, 42 years is a long time. I do feel a lot better now, less wheezing and coughing.

Looking forward to my one year anniversary now.

Best of luck!

Many congratulations, Apachedog. You have reached an important milestone. Now, even by the strictest clinical measures, you can say you have quit. You have done the greatest good you could hope to do for your body and your life.

It's not dying we should fear; it's living a debilitated life. And that's what you faced (I understand your situation well, because mine was the same, except I ended up with a clogged artery and major surgery after 50 years of 30 cigs a day). No one who smokes "only a few" each day has quit. One smoked cigarette is an insult to your body, an insult that body won't .. can't .. forget. Importantly, YOU don't have to qualify your quitting! And, yes, that's a Big Deal.

You acted in your very best interests. I'd call your Independence Day a new birthday to celebrate each year. Mine is July 17, 2007. I'm coming up on two years without cigarettes. My new birthday. Happy Birthday, Apachedog. The only thing we need to light now are candles.

Yes, the body know what to do, if we let it, don't rob it and give it what it needs. Cig smoking uses up our precious vit C supplies real fast, which allows the damage to be done. This is one of the main ways that analogs age us; especially as humans (almost alone among all animals) cannot synthesise vit C.

"It's not dying we should fear; it's living a debilitated life." (TBob) Indeed.

The journey of a thousand miles is achieved one step at a time (after Paradiso, after LaoTse?).
