Torching will result in a pretty dull "finish" which is very different from anodizing as a process. Don't believe it's a process that is possible with steel (usually reserved for aluminum). Perhaps you could torch a similar piece of steel to give you an idea of the final look before doing it to a functional atty?

Actually, I looked it up and torching it would most likely result in uneven discoloration. A common treatment for steel is a hot oil bath, but that's getting perhaps a little too "industrial" to be worthwhile. Google burning steel and oil treated steel for the image results!

If your a part of it here, I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the classifieds would be interested in swapping your silver for a black, It seems like most toppers out there have a black version.

Can turn out nice, I torched my trident and it took on a very nice brass color.
You can throw it in the oven for a couple hours and it will turn into a nice blue color. All I know is you have to clean it VERY well to remove and oils be it machining oil or from your skin.
My tridents finish faded really bad though, turned more into a dull brown. I'd recommend purchasing a black rda clone and modding it to a bottom feed.

Okay I'll take you up on that. Teach me to mod a black RM2 clone (A6?). Now from the grapevine I've heard you just bore a big hole in the bottom. Will a hammer and nail do the trick? :)

Negative.
Although if you put a video of yourself doing that up, I'd sure like to see it!
I tried modding my quasar clone, well a friend of mine did, with a drill press and a 1/16th bit and it was absolutely demolished when he was done. I received a nimbus clone in the mail about 5 minutes ago, going to give it a whirl again sometime this week, but this time with a dremmel.

I have blowtorched the topcap of an RM2 which i use on my black grand and also the topcap of an A7 (which was a SS atty a lot of us used before RM2's came out).

By only doing the topcaps, you will not damage gaskets. The longer you blowtorch it, the darker the colour becomes. You can get a nice brass colour, and then some purples and blues before it goes black.

I have a couple ss attys I'll prolly never use. Maybe I'll practice on one since you're giving me confidence. :)

I put the topcap on a screwdriver and blowtorch it evenly as i can. Let it air cool properly!! (else you get a nice fingerprint burned into it :) ).

Don't overdo the RM2, remember it's a brass topcap covered with chrome; but SS, you can really go to town on! No - the chrome never peeled off. That was my first RM2 and i still use it today.

If it's too light, you just do it again until you get what you like.
