Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and to the world of vaping. I have been smoking roughly 2 packs of marlboros a day since i started high school, and i am really starting to get sick of the damage they do to my body- sick of the smoker's cough, sick of being out of breath from goin up and down a flight of stairs, etc. not to mention the chance of lung cancer.

A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine told me about electronic cigarettes. I had never heard of them before and was intrigued by the idea. Unfortunately, this friend didn't know very much about them. Then, a couple days ago while christmas shopping at a local mall, i came across a stand selling the smoking everywhere electronic cigarettes. The guy was nice enough to pop on a fresh cartridge and let me try it out. I didn't think too much of it, but after browsing this forum and other sites for info on e-cigs i found that A) i had not puffed it correctly- i puffed it like i would a cigarette, not long and slow like i have read you are supposed to and B) smoking everywhere is a rather disreputable company.

Nevertheless, i am still intrigued by the idea of e-cigs and really want to make the switch from tobacco cigarettes to an electronic. However, being a complete newbie to the e-cig world, i have absolutely NO IDEA what to do. I don't even know what the difference is between a 510, 801, 901, etc. I am hoping someone on here will be kind enough to help me out...i know the choice of an e-cig depends on many personal factors, but i'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction, so to speak. What i want is something simple (ideally one of the 2 piece units with the disposable "cartomizers", i really dont want to have to mess with changing/cleaning/maintaining atomizers, at least not for my first e-cig purchase) that will replicate the feel of smoking a tobacco cigarette closely enough that i won't be jonesing to go outside and have one. I dont necessarily care if it looks like a cigarette or not, just want something simple that gives a nice throat hit and produces a good size cloud of vapor while giving me my nicotine fix so it feels like i am smoking a tobacco cigarette. Price is really not an issue for me, though a friend of mine told me that i should not waste money on any of the "cheap" ones and that if i really wanted to switch to e-cigs i'd have to spend a few hundred bucks on for a real quality one. Dont know if he's right about that, certainly doesnt seem like it considering i havent yet found one for sale for more than $150 for a starter kit online.

Sorry about the ridiculously long post, just wanted to explain a little bit about where im coming from and what im looking for in the hopes that someone can point me in the direction of a good quality e-cig that will allow me to enjoy vaping as much as (or hopefully more than!) i enjoy smoking. Thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated:D

You want the simple 2-piece then look no further... what you tried in the mall is trash compared to this :

Vapor4Life:: Because it's your life :: Electronic Cigarettes & Alternatives to Smoking

Get one of those kits, just not one of the value kits with the older 5 second cutoff batterys and you'll be set. Their subforum here is unbelieveably helpful with any questions you have, and the warranty cannot be beat.

You will not be disappointed....

For the amount you smoke i would recommend getting a few different packs of carts around 24mg and maybe try a 36mg, and get an 18mg incase the others are a bit too much for you, you'll find your sweet spot quick enough then :)

Welcome!

I recommend the 510. I see your in Chicago, Cignot.com is in Chicago. They have good prices and are very dependable. Don't be afraid to put a few drops on a cartridge, it's so easy.

If you work, the first one on the page may be just your thing. Get a small bottle of juice and extra cartridges.

Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store.

First cig??? Go with the vapor4life
the 2 piece is much less maintainence.
Personally I started with a three piece and it's a lot of work topping off 3-4 cars each nite and cleaning atomizers and blah blah

to each their own but real cigarettes require almost zero maintainence. I want me ecig to be similiar
that's why I like v4L !!

Right now is a great time to start with vaping. There's lots of Christmas specials going on in the forum with all the vendors.

I have tried quite a few and I think they all have their good and bad points.

Personally, i prefer the 510...the vape is smoother and more consistant. The 801's i used for awhile are good especially because the cart's hold a little more juice than the rest..but it is a harsher vape to me.

The 901's are similiar to the 510's and I like them as well.

Good luck to you and congrats on the wanting to quit smoking ! This is the only thing i have found to satisfy my craving..I tried chantix, patches and gum and this is the absolute best !

Be sure you get extra attys ( atomizers) and a few spare batteries. Whichever kit you purchase will more than likely come with the charger and 1 battery and 1 atomizer. You will need a few more of each to last you. Some of the atomizers don't last as long as they should.

Check the classifieds...you can find a good starter kit for around 35.00, this should include battery, cartridges and an atomizer. Then you can shop around for extra attys, batteries.

However, being a complete newbie to the e-cig world, i have absolutely NO IDEA what to do.

Here's some ideas:

Here's some cartomizers - 5 pack for $9.95.
Vapor4Life:: Because it's your life :: Electronic Cigarettes & Alternatives to Smoking

I've gotten from 1-2 hours of vaping from a cartomizer, but just figure 2 hours. How many do you think you'd vape in a day at that rate? How many in a week? These are disposable and if you want the 'no mess, no filling' path, then you use these and throw them away. And you pay for that 'convenience'.

If you smoke 2 packs you'll probably fall in the average around here - about 20ml of juice a week. Here's some juice prices:

$18 for 30ml - so $12/week at 20ml a week
HIGH VOLTAGE Liquid 12Mg 30ml Plastic Dropper Bottles

$9 for 30ml - so $6/week at 20ml a week:
30ml original E-juice with 20 popular flavors - E-juice - Wholesale & Retail Best E-smoking Supplier=

Filling a 3 piece consists of removing the cartridge, turning it upside down, dripping juice into the filler and putting the cartridge back.

With adapters available now, you can buy a 3 piece for $35:

Joye 510 NO BOX

Get an adapter to go from a 510 battery to a 901/KR808D/cartomizer

AltSmoke | Personal Vaporizer Battery Adapters

... and have the choice to use juice or cartomizers.

Go with the KR808D-1 sure but I won't say go with the vapor4life. Don't get me wrong I really want to like the company because they have such a good reputation for customer service and their fans here are almost cult like but truthfully for my preferences I find their vapor king (their version of the kr808d-1) starter kits completely lacking. For me and a starter kit I want a manual battery with them you can CAN get a manual (but it's the older style battery with a 5 second cutoff) and even their regular manual batteries you have to go with the ones with the V4L logo all over the battery which I find extremely unatractive ..but thats just my personal preference.. I really dislike the rebranding of ecig models as it contributes to confusion of newbies..

I would say take a look at the thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...strated-guide-e-cigs-parts-1-through-6-a.html
which will explain all the models in pretty good detail...still the 2 most popular with users on this site are the 510 (for a 3 piece) and the kr808d-1 (for a 2 piece cartomizer model)
I won't suggest a specific vendor but both of those models have subforums and you can go to the sponsoring sppliers link here and go through them yourself and choose based on what your requirements are..

wow.

Are you serious? You just won one of those "lacking" V4L kits tonight by participating in a contest on their subforum, thus keeping other "cult-like" fans from winning- and you're slagging them here?

Perhaps you should graciously ask Steve and Mark to donate your free kit to one of the other people who entered... or better yet the original poster of this thread.

edit:
heh. sounded a tad culty there, didn't I? I'm not, I promise ...was just cross eyed and edgy after reading through 5000 contest entries.

Really? hmm...
I'm not slagging them ... first off, I did say that I do really want to like them because they do have a reputation of awesome customer service and a near rabid fan base (that has to say something) I'm saying that their starter kits are not at all my preference (I wish that they, or someone did have a kit that met my preference)..that I do think that when suggesting a starter kit to newbies it should be the generic model number and not something thats renamed or rebranded..
And not to worry..I didn't think I'd win anything but if I did I was doing it as a possible christmas gift to an aunt who's tried everything else to get off the analogs..so it will be given away...

I've been using a 510 for about a week and this think is literally choking me at times. So I was looking at 306 attys and wondering if this would be a good move to downgrade to and would the 510 battery last longer with a 306 atty.

Choking you? please explain in more detail, as there are a few different things to try begore giving up on a unit and buying a whole new kit..did you blow the primer out of the attys? too much throat hit? juice too strong? letting the carts get too dry and getting a burnt sort of taste thats choking you? how are you taking your drags? possible sensitivity to PG or chain vaping and drying out your throat?

It's yours to do with whatever you like- your aunt will be very lucky to have someone help her get off analogs, no matter the model.
But in all honestly you should keep half of the kit - ask them for the single logo manuals, in whatever color you want, and they will likely give you the 13 second cut off ones if you ask.

Then you can make a recommendation either for or against based on the quality of the product, rather than any feelings about their marketing ...which you now get to be a part of with your winning slogan ;)

lol, the irony of it...nah she'll probably need both batteries, and the long batteries are definitely not my style anyway...now if they just had a kit with manual short batteries (single logo I'll just have to put up with) with no cutoff or even the longer cutoff all their site makes reference to as far as short manuals go are the 5 second cutoff (seems the perfect (to me) batteries don't exist..
I'll still refer to it as a KR808D-1 tho as it's the same model (the difference is in the customer service and general vibe of the company) which I just think should be separated from model recommendations yet given a nod to at the same time (if that makes sense) I mean except for logos the vapor king, nebula, zeus are all the same thing til they leave kanger.

Since the original poster did state a preference for a two-piece unit, the Vapor King from Vapor4Life is the best recommendation. I love mine - it is easy to use, has great flavor and throat it, there's a tremendous variety of flavors to try, and most importantly, it works. Like many here, I stopped analogs immediately after my first vape on my VK.

It seems like there is a competition of sorts amongst regular posters, especially when it comes to the 510 vs the Vapor King (KR808D-1). The bottom line is that because those two crop up consistently, they must both be good.

But again, the OP did specify that he wants a 2-piece unit. The 510's are NOT 2-piece units. They require a lot of time and attention in comparison to the Vapor King. For newbies, the idea of mods and all of that jazz can be off-putting/intimidating. Only recently am I considering trying another model, which will probably be the 510, because I find that I like the fussing around with my e-cigs. For beginners, the Vapor King is the best best, in my opinion.

Edited to add: The batteries can be bought without logos and with 13-second cutoffs, contrary to what has been posted here.

I started with a joye510- picked for my own reasons (Pricing and if it would work for me).

You sound like ..I should mention Iolite. There isn't a lot of info, but I read a thread on them. Bottom left of this page is a search box and look for Iolite. People posting in it are veterans of pv in many cases. Even some of the Vapor4Life Clan. You'll be surprised by what You read on this model. I am intriqued. It does cost over 150.

I am smoke free since Day 1 of PV. Non-smoker for over 2 weeks.
