Totally new to e-cigarettes / vaping

Hello all! As the title suggests, I'm totally new to e-cigarettes / vaping (within the past two days), and I had a few questions.

First, a little about my tobacco history - I'm 38 years old, and I smoked from age 13 until I was 26. When I was 26, I was deployed to Iraq for a year, and because it was easier to 'dip' tobacco while on the go, I got hooked on that and stopped with the cigs. Now, 12 years later, my dentist told me to lay off of the Skoal before I do any permanent damage, so I thought I'd try e-cigarettes.

I bought the Blu starter pack (I know, I know...) and found that I really, REALLY enjoyed using them, and I especially liked the various flavors that came with it. I've actually been able to throw my can of Skoal in the trash and not look back! Downside it that they are not (technically) refillable, and that it took me four (FOUR) (4) (!) battery charges to empty one cartridge.

I have a couple of questions, if someone would please help me out. First off, I've noticed that I get a tight feeling in my chest when using the Blu e-cig, nothing painful or anything, and it goes away in a half-hour if I don't vape. Other sources I've read from suggest that a tight feeling in the chest is just what happens when a person quits smoking, but I haven't had a real cig in 12 years. I also read that it may be a symptom of nicotine overdose...

Another question concerns where I should go from here. Having learned my lesson from the Blu e-cigs, what brand / model / type of e-cigarette would be decent to purchase? I don't want to have to buy disposable cartridges, but I don't want anything so elaborate that I need a degree in thermodynamics and my own machine shop to operate. I was looking at the Halo Triton, or something along that line. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

As a newbie myself, I would suggest you go with a KangerTech EVOD. I used to use the Blu and Mistic e-cigs. The EVOD really works well for me and is refillable with whatever juice flavor you desire. Good luck in your quest and let us know what you decide and how it goes!

What strength are your cartridges?

I doubt they would cause you to overdose as few outlets supply extra strong cartridges, I think the high strength ones equate to 24mg liquid strength but stand ready to be corrected, Vaporlites here in the UK did sell extra high strength ones at 36mg liquid and they were pretty potent.

Is it possible you have a reaction to PG and need to use pure VG liquids? Its not that uncommon people being reactive to PG in their juices and I am sure there are plenty here that would be able to help advise there, the only other thing is you have developed an intolerance to nicotine, which is rare but not unheard of yet bearing in mind many vegatables have nicotine in them in fairly noticeable quantities, you might have suffered say indigestion from eating carrots which would lend to this direction.

As for where to go next, that is a can of worms with the world and his wife having their own thoughts on, do you like the idea of cartridges and the size of a faux cigarette or you don't mind something a bit more sizeable and messing about with liquids, for instance an eVod battery and clearomizer would be fairly easy next step, although a Vamo kit isn't much more expensive and gives you a lot more control over the whole process, if you don't like the eVod atty then there are many alternatives in the bottom coil clearomiser department and are a breeze whichever your choice to fill.

Welcome to Ecf!!

You have a lot to choose from...

If you do not mind something that doesn't look like a cigarette (which pretty much everyone will recommend you to stay away from). The eGo style ecig is a very decent starter setup....

Look for something like this:

I second this product... I actually didn't want anything that resembled cigs, which gets such a bad rap anyways. Why mimic it? I got the ego (battery part) with evod tanks and t3s tanks for my first ecig. Cheap start up cost (50$) and easy to use with great vaping compared to cig look a likes..

Hi Shorty! Welcome to ECF! I used Blu ecigs for a while too. The liquid for Blu is made by Johnson Creek and is 100% VG. The feeling you have in your chest COULD be from the high VG content. Most juices are a 50/50 blend of PG and VG. For me, personally, the high VG was perfect. When I switched over to the Halo Triton (more about that in a sec!) I started using other juices and had some reactions to the PG. Knowing that I successfully vaped Blu with it's 100% VG helped me to find juices that worked for me. You might be just the opposite. You might lose that heavy chest feeling when you get off the Blu and on to a system that you will find much more satisfying and will allow you to try different PG/VG ratios. If you loved the Blu like you say, you are going to be in *heaven* when you see what the rest of the ecig world is like! I promise you that. Don't get me wrong, the Blu system works for a lot of people as a start. But it can be expensive keeping up with the cartridges, the batteries don't have a very long life, and your flavor choices are limited.

As I said, I switched over to the Halo Triton and it was a world of difference! The starter kit comes with TWO of everything, so you can have two flavors of juice going, and you will also always have a charged battery. The flavors in your juice will amaze you, compared to the Blu. I am a 50something grandmother and I didn't want any complicated equipment - the Triton is simple and reliable, it just plain WORKS. I read here on the forums all the time about people having battery trouble or leaking tanks with the cheaper brands. So far I have not had one bit of trouble. Halo also makes juices in several flavors, too. If you don't think you are quite ready for a tank system, Halo makes the G6 which will be more like the Blu ecigs you have been using. MOST people, though, move from the G6 to the Triton pretty quickly and you may be ready to skip right to the Triton, it sounds like. A really good system means all you have to worry about is finding juices you like. Frankly, that part is kind of *fun* because you get to try lots of different flavors. Halo is a respected name with great customer service. Their products work and work with each other. The threading is different on Halo equipment which means you must use Halo tanks with Halo batteries - similar to how Apple products all work with each other in the electronics industry. Some people see this as a negative, it has not been for me -
Read the reviews and watch some youtube videos from actual Halo customers, it just might be what you are looking for, worked for me! We also have a large Halo community and sub forum here on the ECF so once you have 5 posts under your belt you can join us there and ask more questions. Good Luck, don't get discouraged, it sounds more complicated than it actually is!

I am also new to vaping, 21 days & I started with the V2, which was good enough to get me off analogs, but not quite it, so I went with the evod. It's better, but sometimes I can get a good draw, and then it's hit or miss, which is very frustrating when I REALLY want a cigarette! :) So my question is , what device is going to give me a good draw, every time?( without spending a fortune) I'm still new enough I want the throat hit, but can't use PG. I have been using Johnson Creek Tennessee Cured, and sometimes its a perfect feel, so I don't think it's the VG thing ( I am very new to this, so I could be totally wrong). Also, how often can I expect to change the coils? I've already gone thru 2 in 2 weeks... Am I changing them too often? How do I know when to change them for sure? Thanks for your input :) ( I apologize if this was not the correct place to put this)

For a Battery I would Suggest either a Vision Spinner or an eGo Twist in 650 or 900mAh.

Both are Variable Voltage and Both have 510 Thread. Which allows you to Use a Wide Range of Cartomizers, Atomizers, Clearomizers, etc. I'll let others chime in on what to Put On Top of your Battery.

One Word of CAUTION: Don't use your Blu Charger to Charge ANYTHING but your Blu e-Cigarette. The Polarity is Different. And you can Damage other e-Cigarette Batteries if you charge them with the Blu Charger or PCC.

Since you already started with Blu, I wouldn't go with the Halo system, although I get the impression the Halo system is better at taking people off the cigs;
a good starter kit would be like an Innokin itaste MVP2 with Kanger miniprotank2; if you look for an MVP2 kit you might get one with an iclear16 or iclear30; that's good enough for a start; then you can focus on getting sample liquids and work with that for a month or three.

^^^^^^^^

Only use the charger that comes with the battery you are using. DONT USE BLU CHARGER ON ANYTHING BUT THE BLU. There's been cases where people have had their batteries stop working or explode because they weren't using the correct charger.

Go for the innokin mvp man. With a kanger pro tank 2. I started out with blu (disposables) as well. Found out about halo tritons and they were great. But the mvp is amazing for the price, and wish I'd really started with that instead of the tritons. You can replace the coils on the kanger yourself (if that's something you'd want to do). Then if you get really into it, the ProVari is solid! Though a little pricey. All I use now is my ProVari and my MVP, and couldn't be more happy. Good luck on your vaping journey!

One week for a coil is good; if you are not going to reuse coils, consider a cartomizer tank system;
otherwise you are going to want to learn to dryburn coils and rewick them to get more out of them.
