Hey guys,

When it comes to ethyl maltol and flavour loss, I had to learn the hard way. Juices became muted after some time. Now I avoid EM, but if I have to use it to fix harshness, I add a drop or 2 per 10ml.

My question is, how does marshmallow compare? I'm concerned that it will affect my juices in the same way if I go above a few drops. Is it wrong to think that way? Are marshmallow and EM completely different at higher percentages? Will juices with 1 to 3 percent turn out fine after a month or two?

Thanks guys.

I have read and agree that EM & MM both effect sweetness. EM tends to enhance the sweetness already present in mix where MM tends to add extra sweetness for me.

I use the following rules of thumb which work for me.
EM 0.5 % max. in a mix.(some tobaccos may require more)
MM up to 2% max in a mix. I few other flavors in addition to MM can sweeten a vape.

My really inexperienced take on it...

EM = sharp sweetness (potentially chemically artificial though, if overused)
FA Marshmallow = soft sweetness (for me, better than TFA's, which has a strange note I'm not fond of).
FA Meringue = "fluffy" sweetness, but a tad creamy, which may be desirable.
CAP Vanilla Whipped Cream too, which is fluffy and creamy, but with a lot lighter sweetness. It tends to get buried though, the flavor is really light, almost airy.

There's also TFA Smooth. Haven't really fooled with it yet, but it has a mellow sweetness to it, different than EM or marshmallow though.

The FA Meringue is really good. Lots of applications for it. I kind of prefer it because it's not potentially cloying like EM/marshmallow.

Both EM and MM add body, thickness and wetness more then add sweetness. When sweetness is desired use sweetener. over using any of those additives usually leads to flavor fading. I generally don't go above .5 - 1% for any of the additives. The only exception to the over use rule I follow is if a flavor is overly powerful or harsh. I'll use a little bit more but not over 2.5% to tame that flavor down but in a multi flavor mix you may do that at the cost of muting other flavors so it's a delicate balance that needs to be worked out through experimentation.

TFA smooth is best used (In my case) to blend several tobacco flavors so one is not dominant over the other. It will also help tame any harsh notes.
