I've got a nice supply of 5ml bottles, and a reasonable flavour stash. Working on the basis of a few drops of flavour (1-6, 6 max) in a 80/20 VG/PG 3mg nicotine solution, what would folks recommend as a quick S&V? I don't mind using multiple flavours if need be. Even if you don't have access to the flavours yourself, I don't mind testing out a concept provided it doesn't sound too disgusting. What's a few drops of flavouring between vapers?

No syringes, steeping or scales allowed :D. I hate Red Licorice (TPA) and am not too enamoured with Orange Cream (TPA). I have a grudging respect for 27 Fish (CAP). I like custards and bakeries, and don't mind fruits (I tend to use them as accents rather than primary flavour), but have an open mind. Other than that, I've the sky's the limit.

Winner gets full kudos, and I'll report back on the suggestions once I've dripped them or have run out of bottles, whatever comes sooner ......

You know this could be a good way to work out some flavor stones or one shots.

Might try a lemon/orange creamsicle. Be a good way to use up the orange cream. You know the orange is light enough to use it at a low percentage as a cream? Actually a pretty versatile ingredient, pairs nicely with red berries and passion fruit as well.

Merely more proof that autocorrect is a bane on humanity I suspect. I’m guessing “flavor tones” but I’m not exactly sure what those are either.

A "stone" is a base mix you can add individual (or mulitple) other flavors to in order to change it up. I have several stones I use then I just add the fruit of my choice, depending on my mood.

@Old Greybeard I'd love to play this game but I couldn't get past the "drops" requirement. I mix by weight ;)

So do I, I used my my syringes once, now they are gathering dust :).

As a very rough rule of thumb, I'd say 1 drop PG based flavouring ~ 0.01 gram. Nozzle size is important, the standard 10ml bottles will scale roughly to that. Bigger nozzles I'd say 0.015 - 0.03 gram depending on size. The following test came in at 0.11 gram from a standard (TFA/Capella/FA) size nozzle:

Please don't ask me the diameter of the drops, I didn't measure them :D.

Most any fruit needs one or more brand to make a whole. Some premix these flavors to save a time. Strawberry stones are a good place to start. For example TFA Strawberry Ripe 3% + INW shisha strawberry 2% is my go to sb combination. I mix up 10ml of this flavor shot/stone to keep on hand. I use it at 2-5% in a recipe.

Then you add custard, milk, cream (Bavarian, fresh, whipped, Catalan), creamy vanilla, ice cream... or a combination of any of the above, for a delicious creamy strawberry milkshake, ice cream, custard, milk. :)

This is loosely based off one of my favorites.

You say 6 total drops? Okay, then 3 drops butter pecan, 2 drops vanilla bean ice cream tpa, and one drop vanilla swirl.

It does develop given time, (vanillas, what are ya gonna do?) but the butter pecan will carry it okay for SnV.

Flavor stones?

Stones are premixed one-shot "bases" that some folks use in their recipes. For example: If somebody was a big custard fan they might make a custard stone which is a premixed custard base that could be used as a jumping off point for a more complex flavor. To turn the stone into something fruity they might add some strawberry, banana, raspberry, or orange. Maybe they add some peanut butter, caramel, or graham to the stone to get more of a bakery flavor.

There are cream stones, custard stones, cake stones, cookie stones, etc with each having a primary flavor profile that can be used as a base mix.

First some housekeeping.

Rules for entry:
  1. If you want me to test your recipe, contributors must state the number of drops (or the gram weight on the basis of 1 drop = 0.01g but see below) from the recipe stash at the start of this thread. Please state the vendor to avoid any confusion.
  2. All submissions will be tested in a 5ml solution of 80% VG, 20% PG with 3mg nicotine, manually shaken for 30 seconds.
  3. I don't intend to follow a steeping regime, but will make adjustments for room temperature, etc.
  4. All samples will be dripped with 2 layers of of juice directly onto the coil/rayon.
  5. Depending on number of submissions, flavour availability etc, I will endeavour to test and review your recipe as soon possible after it is posted.
  6. With my larger bottles, I will use the measurement 1 drop = 0.02g. These are: Acetyl Pyrazine 5% (TPA) , Custard (Inawera), Ethyl Maltol, RY4 Double (TPA), Sugar Cookie v2 (Cap) and Sweet Cream (TPA). If you quote 0.01g in your recipe, I will add a drop of base to dilute the "bigger" drop.
  7. If it is really cold I will steep the sample a water bath at 40C until tepid, to allow the flavours to mix properly with the base when shaken. At my discretion, I may nuke a sample in the microwave for a few seconds to achieve the same result.
  8. Other than kudos, there are no prizes. From time to time I will add my own samples, but they will be excluded from the competition.
  9. All comments, ratings, observations etc. are purely my subjective opinion.
Testing regime:
  • 22mm Hadaly or Dpro Mini, full airflow, 7T 26G SS316L 3mm Dia coil at between 38-50W. Coils and wick will be changed regularly
  • Dripped between 38-50W, my normal average vaping range
  • I will use different mods depending on batteries etc. All settings will be on default.
Score explanations:
  • Steep: Yes/No/Microwave
  • Colour: Colour of the mix once shaken
  • Aroma: Does the sample have a distinct aroma?
  • S&V: Is this a viable shake & vape "As is"?
  • Throat hit: The harsher the higher
  • Moreish factor: Does this recipe scream "Chain vape me"?
  • Wattage: Where on my normal settings (38-50W) I got the most enjoyment from the vape. A rating of * means the sample vaped consistently across the range
  • Mod: What mod was used for the test
  • ADV scores: I'm keeping these under my hat for the time being.
Now onto our samples

#13 - @DeloresRose

Nic dosage: 3mg
Flavour percentage = 1%
3 x Butter pecan (Cap) 0.03g
2 x Vanilla bean ice cream (TPA) 0.02g
1 x Vanilla swirl (TPA) 0.01g

Steep: Yes
Colour: clear
Aroma: 6/10
S&V: 8/10
Throat hit: 2/10
Moreish factor: 7/10
Wattage: *
Mod: Aegis Legend

The dominant taste was probably the VBIC. I couldn't taste the BP or VS, when I was 1/2 way through the sample I added 1 drop to see if could identify it. Couldn't really taste it much then either, but there was an slight additional harshness from this point. Nice voluminous mouth feel overall, and it was clearly flavoured.

Nic dosage: 3mg
Flavour percentage = 1%
2 x Turkish Tobacco (Flavorah) 0.02g
2 x RY4 Double (TPA) 0.02g
1 x Salted Caramel (FW) 0.01g
1 x Torrone (Nougat) (FA) 0.01g

Steep: Yes
Colour: clear
Aroma: 7/10
S&V: 8.5/10
Throat hit: 4/10
Moreish factor: 6/10
Wattage: 38-44
Mod: Aegis Legend

I love Turkish and Western, especially the aroma from the bottle, but this doesn't always translate to a good vape. I've had mixed success with tobacco recipes, and I've found some good ones, but they need to be steeped sufficiently and they can also turn harsh if exposed to the air. The biggest issue I have with them is they smell and taste good initially, but get a bit sickly after vaping for a while. This recipe is light enough not to overpower, and there was no discernable harshness until I pushed it past 44W.

(I meant to do post this last night, but batteries were flat in my camera).

I was dreading testing Popcorn V2, there is very little out there in way reviews, and what I stumbled across was not exactly complimentary. I'd had success bringing a very dull butterscotch back to life with Salted Caramel (FW), so I thought I'd pair the two together. I like full body vapes, and the MTS was a precaution in case the Popcorn was too overbearing. I thought this would require a good steep, but I was so wrong. The caramel is not prominent, but there is definitely some magic happening there, the higher temps bringing both body and flavour to the party with no discernable harshness.
