I know I'm probably in the minority here but I was wondering if there's anyone else who can't wait for the day when they feel like they don't need to vape anymore to get through the day? Don't get me wrong I think vaping is the best and easiest way to get off cigarettes and I'm smoke free for almost a month now. I never thought that would even be possible! It just seems like alot of people are just changing addictions, though it's safer it's still an addiction that costs time and money. I personally can't wait until I can live life without worrying about batteries being charged and if I have enough juice to get me through the day. Not trying to offend anyone just wondering if anyone else feels the same?

Nope, I can't say I feel the same. I have no intention of ceasing to vape...ever. Unless of course a new and better technology that gives me the same enjoyment with even less cost comes along.

I L O V E D to smoke. I had NO intention of quitting. I liked the nicotine, I liked the feeling of smoke in my lungs, I liked the way it tasted with my morning cup of coffee, I liked the way it gave something to do with my hands while researching, analyzing, or studying a new topic/subject/business opportunity. I loved cigarettes.

I love vaping more. I get all the benefits of a cigarette, my health has improved dramatically, I no longer stink to high heaven, and the added perk of it being a new technological "doo-dad" I can play with/upgrade/maintain/etc. (yes I'm that guy with the newest phone/TV/computer). I'm in nicotine junkie's heaven, and have no intention on leaving anytime soon! :vapor:

I am completely OCD..I sucked my thumb until I was 10, smoked my first cig..guess what age? 10! By 15 I was a full time smoker. I quit 4 years ago after 30 years smoking, had a rough spell 6 weeks into my quit, someone gave me nicotrol inhalers. Those saved my quit..but I literally had to know it was in my pocket or hands at all times. Then a year ago someone let me try their e-cig..OhhMyyyGosshhh!!! All the bells & whistles went off in my head! For me, I know I'll always be addicted to something (I am also one of those extreme couponers), this is the healthiest of my addictions so far!

I loved smoking and would still be if it wasn't for vaping. I'm not trying to live forever, just trying to be healtier, feel better, not disturb anyone else and possibly enjoy a longer ride. The good part is- I kinda like this better than I did smoking. My cigarettes never changed taste like ecigs. Oh and my car and house smell better too!

Trust me, I'm not questioning the benefits of vaping over smoking. I think doctors should be selling e-cigs out of their offices! I tell any smoker that's interested all I can about it. I personally just don't want to be addicted to anything I guess, it just seems like a weakness to me. I can see it being a hobby I guess but if it's something you have to do everyday it's an addiction not just a hobby. Caffeine is an addiction and that's next on my list once I beat the nicotine thing. There's no one else on this site that wants to give up their pv once they feel like they can?

We're all addicted to something. It's human nature. You can build an empire or destroy a life with addiction but everyone is addicted to something. It's just a matter of how you spend your life wiring your mind. Of course there are people that seem to do nothing including anything that's bad for them. I guess doing nothing is also a form of addiction?

There are posts on ECF of people who did just as you suggested. Vaped for some time then sold off everything because they were able to give up vaping too. For me I am not sure I will be able to do that. I have tried to quit smoking many times in 28 years and this is the only thing that has kept me off smokes for over 7 months. If someday I am able to put the PV away great if not then that is OK too.

Well fb305 I feel the same way as you. Vaping to me has become an obsession. I'm on this forum daily and I'm shopping for new things daily. I justify this by saying well if I was smoking I wouldn't hesitate to buy a pack of cigs. I'm ready to be done with this whole nicotine addition. I love vaping but I want to be able to give it up one day.

Lol, I always say that all those "health addicts" are going to feel REAL stupid when they are laying in their hospital beds dying of NOTHING.

Yes, it's an addiction. The word addiction has become synonymous with the word bad, which isn't hard to understand, considering what drugs can do to a person. That's why we all want to be addiction-free. On the other hand, we're all human. We all make mistakes. Does the natural state of the human body need nicotine? Is it a mistake of mother Nature that we are born without it in our bodies and therefore in a constant state of agony, and need to fill that need in another way? Of course not, that's a need we created ourselves by getting addicted to smoking, and we are sorry for that every day. On the other hand, is nicotine in itself that bad an addiction? I don't think so. I don't feel guilty about it, I'm certainly not going to excuse myself for it, and I most certainly don't feel like a lesser person because of it.

I'm "addicted" to nicotine, caffeine, deep fried foods, red meat, spicy food (deep fried habernaro with Cuban mixed grill, yum) and alcohol (one beer or drink at the end of the day, two on Fri night when I'm living large), none particularly good for me but I'm not giving up any of them any time soon.

Part of the problem in this discussion stems from defining addiction versus a craving for a particular item.

There are 2 types of cravings: psychological and physical, the psychological makes us want something, such as vaping nicotine because it makes you calmer, more alert, generally feel better.

A physical addiction is your body reacts with withdrawal symptoms, common with long term smokers, and only nicotine will satisfy the cravings. As I've passed 6 months without a cigarette I begin to wonder how much the physical addiction I've felt is due to the nicotine and how much was an addictions to the other 4,000 chemicals

My personal experience has been to early on have a huge craving for a cigarette, but the longer I've vaped I question what was actually causing the withdrawal symptoms. I still have a psychological craving for nicotine, it makes me feel better overall, but I don't have the "I'd kill for a cig" feeling of withdrawal. JMHO

p.s. : yesterday I was craving a Five Guys, rare burger with some good 'n greasy fresh cut fries, satisfied now! :)

I have the addiction to nicotine and caffeine, too. So, is vaping simply trading one addiction for another? Yes, it probably is, at least for me. I used to think that I LOVED smoking until I started vaping. Now I don't understand how I could've even liked it. By making this "trade-off", I've added years to my life and eliminated thousands of lethal chemicals from my body. That's something I thought I'd never be able to do because cigarettes were my master. I'll take the trade-off because I don't smoke anymore, I don't stink like an ashtray and I'm not forced to go outside unless I just want to. Will I ever quit vaping? Maybe, but I haven't planned on it. Then again, when I started vaping I wasn't planning on quitting smoking, either. We'll just have to see what happens.

There you are, in your hospital bed, about to snuff it. Ah, here comes the doctor. "Doctor, I'm going to die any moment soon, I have been addiction free all my life. I always wondered what cigarettes would taste like, but I was a health freak so I couldn't try them. Could I have one now?" "What!? And get you addicted? Are you crazy? Those things will kill you!"

I loved to smoke cigarettes, cigars, and dip occasionally.
Vaping has kept me away from these harmful addictions.
Has vaping become it's own addiction? Most certainly.
It's a far wiser addiction to have, considering the entire scope of the issue.
My family is thrilled not to have their clothes and house smell like smoke.
They are glad that I was able to find a satisfying way to not kill myself.
Although it's an addiction...it's one I can live with indefinitely...

I'm another who LOVED smoking. I still sneak one or two a day- they're useful as timers when I'm outside with my dogs (any excuse will do!). I just love cigs. I loved trying them from all over the world, then I found the world of roll/make-your-own... and I was getting to smoke the most fabulous tobaccos from all over the world. It was the cig equivalent of micro-brewed beer. Then the gov't stamped on that pretty hard. Most of the RYO/MYO sellers went out of business, so the variety dried up. The quality of what was available went downhill, due to less competition. I still knew of some "pipe tobacco" growers that had fine grind good stuff, so I was still getting better than the RJR/Winston-Salem swill.
.... that was quite a digression.
Anyway, I saw my Dr recently, due to some scary symptoms. She wanted to hospitalize me that day. I have problems with hospitals due to a bad stay a few yrs ago, and freaked out on her. So we made a deal: If i was 100% compliant with her order, she'd do her best to keep me out of the hospital unless/until something popped up symptomatically or in testing, and my life was in immediate danger .

One of the orders was to quit smoking. I had fiddled with vaping starting about a year ago with a 510 kit, then another kit was given to me by someone who didn;t like it, and of course I bought a bunch of xtra 510 gear. Carto's werent avail at the time, nor drip=tips. I was just such a pain to fiddle with those damn cartridges and the filling. Eventualy I gave up.

So I knew about vaping, asked the Dr if I could go back to vaping in lieu of smoking, she said yes, so I started the hunt. I wanted a Pro-Vari, even had the $$ that day, but the waiting list was too long.
To shorten an already very long story- Ovale's web site, which had been down due to paypal probs, was up that day, so I ordered my ego-T. Much better than the old 510 cart system.

I don't want to get sucked into the hobby again, as bad as I had been the first time 'round. But I keep seeing cool new mods, and the biochemist in me keeps getting interested in some of the satiety questions of other tobacco alkaloids than nic.. I don't want to get sucked into the hobby, but playing with tobacco is a relatively benign use of my lab skills and my mothballed equip... who knows.

The one thing I don't like is that I see us getting banned eventually. Probably sooner than later. I've watched lots of chems get stamped out over the years, and the signs are all around.... and if we get stamped out, and haven't found a reasonable method of long-term storage of nicotine- then I'm a slave. I don't want to be a slave to anymore chems, ever again. (not 12 step anti-chem, just "I don't like being hooked and having a hard time getting a fix makes me grumpy"

So... I'd like to not be hooked on something that can be outlawed, and hard to get, so at this point,I'd like to eventually wean off vaping. If I figure out a bulletproof method of storage, or extraction, then I'll probably lay in a supply of pure nic, and/or tobacco seeds- and go from there. I do like nicotine, and it has interesting neuropsych properties, some being neuroprotective.

Dang that was long... (I had to burn off the adrenaline from the "letter from Dianne Feinstein thread...I am/was/is pretty peeved at government today)

Actually, we've traveled similar paths. I too loved smoking, smoked close to 30 years, got into making my own cigarettes, enjoyed that even more because it was alot cheaper and tasted alot better, and then a month ago had some scary symptoms start to show up and decided that the e-cig WAS going to work for me and it has worked for me so far. I'm just amazed at how many people love it so much that they have no intentions of ever stopping. Like you said I just simply don't want to be a slave to anything anymore, and if I continue to vape from now on then I haven't completely freed myself. I actually don't want to try a bunch of mods or get to the point where I love it so much that I don't want to give it up. To each their own though, I'm not judging anyone for their choices to smoke or vape or whatever.
