When I was smoking, cigarettes controlled me. That addiction told me when to smoke, told me to smoke everytime I got in my car, every morning when I woke up, everynight before I went to bed. The addiction controlled my every decision. "When am I gonning to be able to smoke again?" "Can this pack last me the rest of the day?" That addiction is a nightmare.

I still have an addiction, but now I call the shots. I vape when I want, where I please and if I can't... no big deal. I feel like I have the addiction under control with vaping, I never did with cigarettes.

I'm not quite there yet but hope to be in the next couple of weeks. Right now I feel like the nicotine is still in control.

It is definately an addiction. I was cigarette free for almost a YEAR using the patch and gum, then just the gum, then a little plastic inhaler type thing but only a couple times a day if I got stressed or something. I decided to buy an e-cigarette because I was intrigued and love having a......well an addiction I guess. I am over 6 years without alcohol or hard drugs. I love my life now (as simple and uneventful it may be). But I like to indulge and I saw this as a "healthy" way to feed the addict within me again. For me it is like becoming a coffe conniseur but without all the jitteryness I get from drinking coffee (I have cut WAY down on my caffeine intake). You need to remember that nicotine as well as most things in everyday foods we eat and beverages we drink is not necessarily "healthy". We are all mortal so just make the right choices to live healthy and as long as you can or want to. It is great to put down a dependent and have no strings attached but don't forget, if we examined the foods we eat as closely, we would realize there would be a long long way to go before you were putting only necessities into our bodies. Enjoy vaping, enjoy not vaping, if you are concious of your well being enough to post this topic on here and have been thinking about this, you are probably doing pretty good for yourself. Congrats on quitting smoking!

Boy, this really is spot on. How about thinking, "Oh, here's my overpass, so I'd better have a smoke before I get there..."

Cigarettes are brainwashing, mindblowing slavemasters. Every day I'm gladder for finding PV's.

Actually i decided that i right now need an addiction in my life and i'm looking for the least harmful. the creation of an artificial desire that is guaranteed to be met is very satisfying to me. The biggest problem i am having with being happy with my pv addiction is the mechanical failure/crap manufacture problem which i believe is slowly getting better. What i want is an artificial or natural desire that i know i will be able to satisfy. I'm still trying to envision and cultivate natural desires that can be as predictable as addiction but my experience with natural desire is that by its nature, the volume, frequency and intensity of the desire vary widely based on many many internal and external variables and the probability of having the desire met exactly also varies and is often quite small. the beauty of an addiction is that it creates a discrete, repeatable desire with a known fulfillment. of course that's it's limitation as well creativity, community, social justice, love even good food all require so much more ingenuity and so many of those complex desires once filled are not repeatable in any meaningful way.

Nope, I can't say I feel the same. I have no intention of ceasing to vape...ever. Unless of course a new and better technology that gives me the same enjoyment with even less cost comes along.

I L O V E D to smoke. I had NO intention of quitting. I liked the nicotine, I liked the feeling of smoke in my lungs, I liked the way it tasted with my morning cup of coffee, I liked the way it gave something to do with my hands while researching, analyzing, or studying a new topic/subject/business opportunity. I loved cigarettes.

I love vaping more. I get all the benefits of a cigarette, my health has improved dramatically, I no longer stink to high heaven, and the added perk of it being a new technological "doo-dad" I can play with/upgrade/maintain/etc. (yes I'm that guy with the newest phone/TV/computer). I'm in nicotine junkie's heaven, and have no intention on leaving anytime soon! :vapor:

I feel exactly the same way. I think that if you buy into the idea that nicotine is something you should quit even if it isn't harming you, that notion comes from a morality based thinking that it's 'bad' to do something just because you enjoy it and for no other reason. Also, I don't agree that all addictions are equally bad and I accept that addiction is a part of the human condition, it comes with the territory of being able to feel pleasure......of course we're more likely to get addicted to something we get enjoyment out of than something we don't.

I can see not liking being dependent on vaping/nicotine if you honestly feel it is causing inconvenience or disruption in your life. I know that I spend money on vaping, but honestly, if I wasn't vaping I'd be spending on something else equally frivolous instead of putting it in the bank. I'm able to vape when I want so I'm not bothered by 'needing' to do it. People that don't vape/smoke have something else that they 'do' even if it isn't some vice that we can all see.

On a side note: we all love the idea that nicotine is no worse than caffeine. We even advise chain vaping to new users. On the other hand, I've never heard about chain coffeeing.

As long as I get my 16oz on the way to work and another 16oz when I arrive, and refresh the cup about 11:00, no problems, a cup in the afternoon is good, guess I just have an addictive personality....

<----------Chain coffee, chain sodas, chain tea... and I'll have a side of ice water to go with them.

having made the switch to vaping from analogs, i'm much more concerned with unhealthy (read: addictive) relationship patterns & belief structures that shape & limit my interactions with people & where i take myself in life. dollars for donuts those are things i can focus on that will make a far bigger impact than whether or not i vape.

For me it's not so much that I'm worried about putting nicotine in my body because I'm sure there's plenty of bad ..... in most the foods I eat etc. It's more that I feel like I have to have it at this point so I don't relapse to cigarettes and that it's a crutch. I just want to get past having to have something to get me through the day. After I get to the point where I don't have to have it with me all the time and feel like I can just vape because I want to, then maybe I'll change my mind about getting rid of it all together, I don't know. Caffeine is next on my list too, I get killer headaches if I go more than a day without it. I just don't want to be controlled by anything anymore.

I wouldn't advise chain vaping to someone new, I did that when I first got mine and thought my heart was going to explode one night! Red bull = chain coffeeing!

I'm addicted to sex but I'm not planning on giving that up anytime soon. I'm addicted to freedom but I'm not planning on giving that up either. I'm addicted to life and want to keep it that way.

Enjoying something and being addicted to it are 2 completely different things. If you are a sex addict I feel for you because I'm guessing you probably can't keep a job or a partner.

When I smoked cigarettes (39 years) I hated that I HAD to have a cigarette before this, after that, stop everything while I think, etc. I felt addicted to them, no doubt.

Like the song says,
Smoke, Smoke, Smoke that Cigarette...
Everything's gotta stop when you smoke that cigarette.

Even though I won't leave the house w/o my PV & juice, I can go for hours without if I can't vape.
OTOH, once it's in my hand, I can keep it warm for hours at a stretch. Particularly if I'm in front of the computer.

I consider my vaping a hobby these days, and well, ya know hobbies can be expensive.
But addicted? Nah...:vapor:
