Hi folks. I've been lurking here for awhile and thought I'd share my experiences as a new vaper. I started out about a month and a half ago. pack and a half to 2 pack a day smoker for over 30 years, tired all the "quit" paraphernalia. Patches, inhalers, welbutrin, cold turkey you name it without results. Bought a couple of Volts and some cartos to give it a try. After one week was down to a little more than half a pack. Currently still at 6-8 a day but hey that's at least a pack a day I'm not puffing! I decided not to "try and quit" but rather to try vaping and see what happened. Lowered the pressure and left any anxiety out of the picture. This morning I got my new Riva in the mail and so far have mixed feelings. First of the kit came with 2 attys and 5 empty carts. That's cool cuz I already have a mix of juices I've been trying out with volts. Filled up a cart and attached it to the Riva. fired it up.....nothing, nada no vape, no sound, one atty DOA. Screwed the other one on and bleche the worst taste you could ever want, what do the put in these for shipping. Wished they had warned me in the instructions, couldn't clear my taste-buds for hours. Next up loaded up a clearomizer that I ordered with the kit. Filled it up, screwed it on and gave her a shot. patoohey, tasted like plastic, there go the buds again! The volts are really looking good about now. Have been refilling the cartomizers for a month without any issues. Not to be deterred I unscrewed everything and proceeded to rinse out the new attys added some more juice and finally got something that is approaching what I was expecting. Do these things have a "breakin" period. I am still getting a bit of a unpleasant under taste from the atty's. The clearomizer seems to be improving but that too seems to have a bit of an aftertaste but not as bad as it did from the start. On a bright note after using the Riva for half a day it really seems to put out a lot of vapor and my urges for analogs are fewer. I'll keep on playing with it and try to get it squared away. I really didn't expect quite this much of a learning curve after using the Volts for a month and a half. This forum has been a great educator and it really feels great to have a pack of smokes last for 3 days instead of 3 hours!

From my experience just about every "heat" device need some time to break in. I have only dealt with volcano l88 attys but they use mesh and after a few pulls clear up. I have to say it has been a long time since using any atty and dripping. After finding this forum I have enjoyed my vaping like crazy.

If I may make a suggestion, try a lower resistance "mega cartomizer" such as the smoke-tech for the ego or even a XXXL 510, I vape very heavy and they last a long time before you need to top off unlike the little cartomizers. Plus with the dual coil models you will get much better production with 3.7 volts.

As for the clearomizers, I have never had any luck, one that taste good leak, others taste burnt. There are some videos of how to prime the wick and coil on the clearos, you may check them out. The only one I use regularly is my vision 2.5ohm on my pass-through in front of the computer. Madvapes has them for a good price, just watch your resistance.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've been using the Riva all day with the clearomizer and have found it to be pretty nice. I'm thinking that the atomizer/cart route just isn't for me. i seem to spend more time topping them off and still getting burnt tasting hits after a bit. I need something that I can load up and throw in my pocket for work and not have to worry about adding juice every 15 minutes. It's funny, I would charge up the 2 volts, fill up the cartos in the morn and be set for the day. The vapor production is no where near that of the Riva and I can now see how people are going through the amount of juice they are. With the Volts I thought it would last forever. All and all I think if I can get a cartomizer or clearomizer option that works well for me I will be pretty happy with the Riva batteries. I am curious about the 510 T tank/atomizer. Would that work on my Riva? Any opinions on that option? I do want to experiment with dripping, especially to try out new flavors. One month, 4 E-cigs and 15 sample bottles of juice! A little more interesting than just buying a pack of analogs. Maybe that's one reason it seems to work, gets you hooked on a new hobby and onto forums like this with great support. My desk is now littered with juice bottles, cartomizers, batteries, chargers and bunches of little rubber caps!
