Thanks for the appreciative words. I put in lots of work on this and its great to hear the feedback. Halo probably isn't pleased but I expect DIY only puts a tiny ding in their sales.
Certainly, this recipe can be tweaked; be sure to post any improvements. EG- I agree that the Virginia might be a bit too high but I love the color it gives. My final tweak to the basic formula was to add either 0.5% of NF Brown Sugar or NF Caramel. (Note - vendor does make a difference for these.) I'd love to hear what everyone else tries. It's now to the point where I prefer mine over Halo but of course that's all a matter of taste.
I have also done a lot of mixes with this formula. I make a concentrate of the basic ingredients and use as a base to mix with lots of other flavors. Some work really well although many don't. I made two versions of the base - one using everything in same proportions as original formula and another where I cut the Virginia and TA by 2/3 for a sweeter version. Mixing larger batches of this base combination allows me to treat them as one ingredient and saves a lot of time on experiments.
Using these bases, what I found good to mix with them was: NF Brown Sugar (killer!), TE Peanut, VZ Honey, TFA Kahlua, HA Pineapple, CAP Toasted Almond, FA Oakwood, CAP Strawberry, FA Tiramisu and FA Hypnotic Mist. What wasn't so good was: TFA Apple, TFA Banana, TFA Cherry, HA Peach, TFA Irish Cream, TFA Maple, Plum, TFA Raisin, and FA Cookie. Consider these just random ideas - might be different with differing proportions and/or vendors than I used along with some patience. Point is, this is a pretty versatile mixer and has led to the start of some pretty good formulas.
Merry Christmas. Give your loved one a 30ml bottle of Tribeca. They won't know it only cost you three bucks.
