I've been on the e cig nearly three weeks now and during this time some of my colleagues have jumped on the bandwagon, so there are now about 20 of us at work on the e cig (the more the merrier i say!) However, the Technical Services Manager (grand name for the bloke thats in charge of the cleaners) is now trying to get everyone using them into the smoking area. The H & S chap agrees with me that these people are not smoking and should be encouraged to maintain their abstinence from tobacco as long as they are sensible and don't take them on the shopfloor. we have our monthly "management v the workers" meeting next week and no doubt this will be top of the agenda.

You could argue that you shouldn't be forced to use the smokers area as you are not currently smokers. It would be against health and safety good practice to be subjected to unhealthy second hand smoke.

Get the union on board if you can and get the Technical Services Manager to justify why he wants to discriminate against a practice that has not been proven harmful and is certainly not in the same league as smoking. The main challenge is to remove the link with smoking if you can, call it vaping if you have to. It's probably as safe as chewing gum and is no more offensive to other people.

Good luck with it, let us know how you get on. Oh yes, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Roffcoff
I'm new to this but the first reaction i got from someone who saw me smoking my e cig was that it smelled of tobacco and that alone was enough to make people who had completely stopped smoking uncomfortable as it could bring back the craving for a Cigarette. It took me about half an hour to prove to him that there was no tobacco in the e cig and he was a Smoker!
If i were you i would have something ready for that Reaction because the Anti Smoking Fanatics will jump on the Tobacco Odour coming from the Vapour immediately.
Best of luck.
Let us know what happens.

Urghhh...

I currently e-smoke at my desk in the office.

However there is one annoying twonk in my office that claims he can smell it from the other side of the room, yet I managed to e-smoke though a meeting with no problems when I asked the people on either side of me if it was ok and said that if you can smell it or it was annoying then I would stop, and they were both fine with it (and non-smokers)

Yes Luke, that annoying twonk is just one of thousands who are going to complain about "the filthy, disgusting smell of tobacco that cling's to my clothes and my hair etc, etc". The fact that they have won their Crusade against Smoking with little opposition won't make any difference. It's that smell of tobacco that they Will lobby their MP'S about. Is there a Flavour of Cartridge that is odourless. I.e Does the Apple flavour smell of apples?
I've only been using the e cig for about ten days so you'll have to forgive my ignorance of these matters.

I am very pleased that since i smoked my first e cig i have not smoked or wanted to smoke a real Cigarette and it really annoys me that people don't believe me when i say i've stopped smoking because they say they can smell tobacco.

I live in Scotland. They still want to burn witches up here. :thumb:

that alone was enough to make people who had completely stopped smoking uncomfortable as it could bring back the craving for a Cigarette.

You're not responsible for other people's lack of willpower- their complaint is not a legal one

Anti Smoking Fanatics will jump on the Tobacco Odour coming from the Vapour immediately.

Theoretically, they can't jump all over it legally speaking- unless they can prove it will kill them or cause irreprable damage, then they haven't got a legal leg to stand on- let them throw their little hizzy fits- it's fun to watch.

Fortunately most people in the office are fine with it and I have asked everyone if they can smell the vapor or if it is annoying them and people say you can only smell the vapour if you blow it right in their face (which of course I don't do except when I was demonstrating) Most people in the office seem to prefere me e-smoking at my desk than going out for a cigarette break every couple of hours and coming back in smelling like an ashtray. It makes sense!

Well most people go along to get along, right? .......s, on the other hand, seek me out like a guided missile. I think most of us hot or cold smokers have a bit more give than those fortunate folk occupying the moral high ground, largely because of the pressures of continuing to use tobacco or its alternatives in the post-ban world.

I love yanking the chain of the rabid disapprovers, but I try not to annoy ordinary people unnecessarily. For instance, as much as I love it, I don't vape Johnson's in the world because all the flavours I've tried have a very detectable aroma - a delicious aroma, but one that would kill an anti at five hundred yards (they swear). Janty Oriental also has an unpleasant aroma, so that's a home vape (of last resort, cos my wife hates the smell).

Visible vapour, however, harms no-one but raises blood pressure beautifully. Most of my fun with the witchfinders comes from blowing smoke rings where I shouldn't. I haven't even tried e-smoking at work though, Luke. My personality sorta lends itself to mocking fools, and my company is as full of them as any other. E-cigs would be an easy target and I try not to offer those...

Meeting canceled so no resolution as yet. One interesting point though, got fed up with the 901 (too much trouble) so I got a classic penstyle from e-cigs.uk with the green and blue batteries and since using this i have not been challenged by anyone. I'm still using the 901 for witch baiting though!. Thanks for the comments and advice.

I was looking forward to an update, it's a bit of an anticlimax that the meeting was cancelled, lol. That might be a good thing though, they might have banned you from esmoking.

How does the classic compare to the mini for you Roffcoff? More/less vapour, easier/harder draw, flavour, whatever. I see the mini as a good device for light smokers and the classic as a workhorse for heavier smokers. Do you think that's a realistic impression?

I think you've got the comparison between the mini and classic spot on Kate. I've just ran out of carts for the classic so back on the mini for a day or two :(. I decided to clean my mini atomisers at work with a 90 psi airline (not recommended) as I only have one working atomiser now but who cares because I have not smoked an analog cigarette for 1 month and 22 hours saving me £249.22. This equates to 1086 cigarettes not smoked and iI feel great!
P.S. I've noticed that the Brits on this forum don't use the term "..." is this because A. we are all dead posh. B. because it means something completely different in the US:confused:

Lol, I wouldn't know about that, but I associate that term with the smelly old analogue smokes anyway ;)

Using a blue/green LED when smoking in the presence potentially unfriendly/sceptical people is wise. There is a strong psychological reaction to seeing people puffing away in the post-ban world, and of course they will hallucinate that they 'smell' tobacco. If the ciggy burns blue or green, they are immediately thrown off their preconceptions :D

We introduced our e-cigs (hubby's Classic, my Mini) to a couple of semi-tolerant ex-smoking friends last weekend. One of them claims that he can smell us smoking analogues on the balcony from two floors up. He has a very sensitive sense of smell. He didn't pick up any tobacco smell at all (but a slight sweet note from my cherry-flavoured juice).

I'm not sure whether I should try out the neutral carts or a fruit flavour when visiting my sis. Neutral would be best, if he's right and there is no tobacco smell.
