I have 32g kanthal and some cotton balls and in trying to rebuild a coil for a protank head. Im having a hard time making the coil really compressed. Im running a lighter through the wire first, then wrapping it as tight as I can. Then i try to compress it, but as much as I try I can't get all the coils to touch unless I force it, at which point some overlap. Does it just take practice? Or am I doing something wrong?

After winding you coils, simply squeeze them together with tweezers, the torch them till they glow red. This will set the coils in nice and tight. A lighter will work, but takes time. I bought a Ronson Butane torch at walmart, works great for oxidizing SS mesh and setting coils, and soldering too. Oh and starts a campfire really well also. lmao. Good luck.

In some of the videos on youtube they put the head into the protank and then use a mod to heat the coil let go of the switch and while it is still hot use tweezers or needle nose to squeeze the coil lightly. May have to do it a few times for best results but it did work for me. Buying a butane torch may be easier in the long run though.
