Hey there. New here at ECF, but not new to vaping. I have vaped on and off for 3 years or so, have quit cigarettes for over a year at one point, even quit vaping in that time. Somehow I always fall back to the smokes and I can't say why. I feel better when I don't smoke and I definitely breath better! I started smoking at a very early age (10). I had an older sister who smoked, she and her friends thought it was funny to get me to smoke too. I wonder if the fact that my body actually developed and grew with this crap being pumped into it has something to do with it. Just wondering if anyone else has experience trouble staying off the cigarettes even though they enjoy vaping more and know they feel better? All I know is I have even more sympathy than ever for all addicts of substances!!!! It's frustrating and I get down on myself, but I keep trying. :(

I smoked for 35 years and was a dual user (smoking and vaping) for the first six months. I took up vaping to help quit smoking. At six months I asked myself if I really wanted to quit smoking or was I just fooling myself with the vaping? I tossed the last pack and the Bic into the garbage and that was it. The worst was over after three days.

Basically, I had to want to quit and stay quit before I could quit. Everyone is different, though.

It would be nice if you mentioned what type of ecig you use/try as well as the juice type and nic level so we can give our opinion in a better away. I have been vaping for two years and am happy with it. I started to smoke at around my 20's so my experience is maybe a little bit different. I have no problem to say that in the first 6 months of starting with vaping I was a dual user and always had a pack of analogs with me. I even came back to analogs for a month or so because it was very difficult to find e-liquid. On those times I was using an ego type battery with a iclear 16 and the experience was not that awesome. It could keep me away from my normal number of cigarettes but it was nothing espetacular. I decided to invest in some new gear around that time and bought a variable wattage device and a protank. The vape quality increased and I was able to drop the analogs for good. So, my advice for you is keep trying. Try new liquids (flavours/nic levels) and new devices and tanks if you have the chance to. One thing about e-cigs is the amount of offer you have. Anyone can have his sweet spot after finding it. Read about the offers and the device types you can get and others opinions but don't take anyones choices as the best choices for you. The best away to enjoy this thing, imo, is to find for ourselfs the best for us and keep away from cigarettes.

to successfully quit smoking by way of vaping is finding the right juice for "you" combined w/good hardware.
juice could be flavor, nic level, ratio of pg/vg, tobacco alkaloids etc.
hardware would be a good atomizer w/a mod that can fire it correctly.
today there are way too many choices in both juice and hardware to try them all so vapemeets might be the way to go or a b&m where they allow testing of hw and juices b4 you buy

My first rig was the E-Power 14650. This is a very modest rig using replaceable, rechargeable 14650 batteries and plain cartos. This is a semi-regulated rig putting out about 3.4V under load. I quit smoking with it. The performance was very similar to eGo devices of the time. It makes about the same amount of vapor as the amount of smoke of cigarette will produce. I used 24mg nicotine juice for several months after I quit smoking. I still have the E-Power in the cupboard.

Thanks for the ideas and advice. :)

I started on the old ego T b type atomizer and actually had success quitting with that and was off the cigs for about a year. I would vape still on occasion. When I went back to vaping I got the pro tank mini and used that with the ego battery for a while. Now I am using a vamo v5 with a nautilus. I want to get into RBAs when I have the funds to support it. :) As for juice I use 12mg as I tend to chain vape when I am quitting the cigs so anything higher is too much. I use Plume Room a lot Ahlusion, JVapes, and a few others. I have a lot on my list to try as well! I am starting to think it is the myriad other chemicals that cigs have that I have trouble kicking, not the mental attachment. I hate those darn things!!

Figure what you would spend for a months worth of cigarettes. Take a portion of that money and spend it on juice. Make sure you have a good set up for vaping, a good back up and plenty of coils, cartos, kanthal, cotton ect.

At bed time throw out any remaining cigarettes and lighters, make sure the cigarettes are crushed beyond recognition so you dont dig them out of the trash ( anybody? )

When you wake up immediatley start vaping, get a good dose of nicotine and pick a strong flavored juice. I did this on my day off of work when I knew I wouldnt have to smell or be around anyone smoking.

Every day you smoke cigarettes you do more damage to your lungs. I am a paramedic. I can not tell you how many times I have had to suction the airway of a patient with a tracheostomy. Have you ever watched someone go into respiratory failure, gasping for air? I have tried my very best to save the lives of patients suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD ) caused from smoking cigarettes for years..

If you dont quit smoking, you will die. If you are lucky it will be from a massive stroke or myocardial infaction ( heart attack ) it will be painful, but shouldnt last long. If you are unlucky you will spend days or weeks in an intensive care unit with an endotracheal tube down your throat and a resirator breathing for you. You will have IVs in each arm and a foley catheter in your urethra. You will be fed by way of a naso gastric tube, the thick liquid they pump into that food looks and smells horrible. Fortunatley you will be able to deficate on your own, unless your constipated from the opiates thay are using to sedate you. You may have wrist restraints on for your own safety to prevent you from pulling out your endo tracheal tube. If you finally deficate on your own you will lay in it until the nurse or nurses aide makes her rounds and decides to clean you. Hopefully she will try to keep you clean and roll you so you dont develop decubitus ulcers ( bed sores )... Kinda makes me want a marlboro just thinking about it... YUM!

But hey, what do I know... we are all going to die anyway, I would just hate to die in that horrible conditon because I couldnt muster enough self control to quit a deadly, filthy habit.

Those were some really tough and graphic things I just said. Now I will say this.

WE are here for you. You can do it. You will feel better. Your family will have you around longer. You wont be subsadizing an industry guilty of putting chemicals into a product to keep you addicted. The only thing keeping you from quitting is you... and we are here for support and to help you!

Man !! I wish I had read this in my transiction periods. Well said. The thing about dropping analogs using ecigs that amazes me most is the amount of people who were able to do it.
Just stay strong and fight the .... chemicals.

Reading through the threads I myself had the same issue as the OP, and in truth it was someone frank with me at a vape shop said (and this by no means is nice) "You can make excuses all day long to start or stop smoking your analog cigs, the want has to be there and once that is found, then you'll switch or quit trying"

I thought that was rude at the time, but the more I thought about it the more it made sense that I was still making up excuses "well, it does not put out enough vapor, the flavor is off, its this or that" and would pick up the pack again. The want has to be there to overpower the urge to pick up that pack and reach for the e-cig. I'd say that E-Cigs may work like magic for some but for others it still requires the will power to swap over fully, just keep at it and tell yourself that "I'm going to grab the E-Cig only" and eventually it will be second nature.

Welcome to ECF, remember that were here to support you in any way we can, so if you feel like chatting or just talking post on here so we can help out. Wishing you all the best, I know you can do it :)

Nail on the head with that one. Sometimes it's hard to look yourself in the face and tell yourself the truth, but no sense lying to yourself either. It's funny, I have said the exact same thing as that guy said to you, thanks for reminding me to stop being a lying a**hole to my own face.

I think I'm gonna be OK. And if I fall I will just get back up and start again.
I am a very new member here on ecf. Anytime I felt not that enthusiastic about ecgis to help me quit smoking I looked for video reviews on YT and threads here on ecf and other forums. I got my energy back, many times, just by watch and read the success of others and meet the big world around this.
