Trustfire Tr001 and 26650

I have a trustfire tr001 i typically use for charging my batteries (18350's, 18490's, 18650s), and have recently purchased a 26650 stingray and some 64amp efest purple 26650's. I do not have a 26650 charger yet, but was just going to use the tr001. Any reason why I can not just use a strip of copper across the positive, and a strip across the negative terminals (putting the charge terminals in parallel) of the tr001 and put one 26650 in between that?
I will get myself a decent charger but for now this is what i plan to do. Is that charger 500ma each side, or 500ma total?

Personally I wouldn't contemplate such thing with quality 18650 charger never mind a Trustfire-001. Can I just inform you that the majority of 'incidents' happen during the charging process and what you are proposing pushes parameters of safety to the extreme. The other thing to be mindful of is that should a mishap occur, the venting/explosion will be far greater with a 26650 cell than an 18650.

Can you not show patience and a will to prolong your life and continue vaping as you were until such time you buy a new charger?

I appreciate the reply ScottChensoda. but how does what I am proposing push the parameters of safety to the 'extreme'? If a 500ma charge is put out by the charger, I am sure it is much safer to charge with a low amp charge than it is with a high amp charge would it not (honest question)?

Do you know of a charger that will charge both 18's and 26's ?

Because charging a Li-On battery isn't simply a matter of applying current and seeing what happens. Even a TR001 has two independent current and voltage monitoring circuits - one for each battery. If you parallel the circuits - at best you trash the charger almost immediately. At worst - that doesn't happen and you blow up your battery.

Charging it on one side would be somewhat safer, but as the Tr001 was not designed for it, there's no way to be sure the circuity would shut off the charge properly.

It would be like taking a nice '69 Hemi 'Cuda (your 26650) and putting worn out, bald tires (Tr001) on it, you may get away with it, but only due to luck, not planning....:)

Just for clarification, those purple Efest batteries are not 64 amp. They are 32 amp.

If you look closely, they are labeled as 32A/64A.

The 32A is an industry standard continuous discharge rating, which is the only one that matters. That 64A number is a max or pulse rating which has no standard definition and is largely marketing hype to make batteries appear more powerful than they really are.

When buying batteries, go only by the continuous discharge rating, and if the battery does have that in the specs, stay away,

You mean a '70 hemi 'cuda ( ;) ) But i get your drift. So it would be no worse than charging the 18650's i have in the tr001 ?

Likely not much worse, the problem is the unknown circuitry and specifications of the charger, it's not made for a 26650 and how it might or might not shut off on a full charge. A new charger that is designed for the 26650 is the best way to go....
