I want to quit smoking and Ive never tried vaping before, i know very little about it even after spending most of the day online reasearching. So many options out there.

Anyone have some tips on what hardware to start off with around a 50$ budget. Im just trying to beat my nicotine cravings first and slowly move away from that and break the habit.

Anyone here have experience with trying to quit smoking by switching to this method? Much appreciated.

Yes... that's why we're all here! :)

I've got to say, you have done well to ask... researching online means throwing yourself in front of the corporate train, where false claims, exorbitant prices, fake reviews and commission sales are damaging this business for many.

Google is not your friend, unless you know specifically what you want to buy and the target prices. ECF has approved Vendors, which are trustworthy.

I'm guessing you don't want to spend your $50 on an e-cig 'worth' $5, so ask away and you'll get a flood of options in no time.

For $50, I'd buy an iStick 'mod' kit and a tank. OR a double Evod style kit, maybe.

Hey mapper,

I was a smoker for 10+ years before trying vaporizers. I've now been cigarette free for 5 month and I'm not looking back. I got an Eleaf istick 20w with a nautlilus mini for around $50 bucks. It worked great for me until I wanted something with more power. I still have no problem issues with the 20w and will likely use it as a backup.

If you're thinking of getting into sub-ohm vapes then check out the Kanger subox mini. It looks gorgeous and is a pretty sweet little kit. Might be a bit outside your price range. I think they are around $70.

Just an fyi - before you buy anything, there are always coupons and discounts. Make sure to Google coupon codes for the store your buying it from.

Welcome and glad you joined.
The last two poster's, djsvapour and Gillistration gave good suggestions. I would check out their suggestions if your not pressed for time.
If time to study is a problem, I would go for a simple cartomizer kit. It's as close to fool proof and a quick learn. I started with a simple cartomizer kit and like it so much I graduated to the other above suggestions, and then some, over time.

+1 on the Nautilus tank. It was the 3rd tank I bought and the 1st one I actually liked vaping with. I wish I had bought it first. I would suggest a higher powered mod (battery pack) than 20W though. You may find that you want more power very soon if you get into bigger clouds and 20W may not be enough. Better to get something in the 50W range now so you don't end up buying another mod in a couple of months. If you don't end up needing it later, you will have longer battery life between charges anyway, so it's a win, win. Just make sure the mod you buy will work a little below 10 W on the low end. Some folks like the nautilus at 7 - 8 watts. Some like it better at 12 - 15W.

This:
Kanger eVod Kit - Black

And visit a B&M(local vape shop) to test some flavors/nic strengths

The kit is a Solid starting point for converting smokers and well known so help is available.
The choices in flavors and personal preference make it impossible to say exactly what e-liquid will be satisfactory for YOU.

Good Luck!

+1 on the iStick and Nautilus Mini combo. My first setup was a 20W iStick with the Nautilus Mini. A few of my vaping friends advised me that going with something that had variable voltage/variable wattage was the way to go since you can customize to your personal liking (throat hit, etc), especially first starting out. I love mine and it has served me so well that I have already purchased another Nautilus Mini tank and I plan on purchasing another iStick battery in the near future. I think I may spring for the 30W or 50W one next.

Great suggestions and advice so far.

Avoid the "cigalikes" or cigarette size batteries. Battery life sucks and they aren't powerful enough to simulate a cigarette.

At minimum, buy an Ego variable voltage battery setup like a Vision Spinner and a couple of clearomizers. Or spend a little more and get an iStick mod and an Aspire Nautilus Mini tank.

Consider this:
Curve 2 Mini 20W Kit with 1 bottle of US made Patriot Range e-liquid
It's a rebadged iStick Mini 20 Watt with a rebadged GS Air MS. It's good for different draw styles and holds a decent amount of juice. It'll do you good for a while.

Use the discount code SUMMER25 for 25% off, and it comes out to $33, including shipping. Just need some spare coils from here:
Eleaf GS-Air Cotton Replacement Coils NEW 5 Pack - $10.00 : Rocky Mountain Vapor, The Mountain top of Electronic Cigarettes
Use discount code SUMMER15 for 25% off and they come out to $7.50 a pack. Order two, since orders over $14 ship free.

Take the stock coil out of the starter kit and keep it for a spare. The other coils are tons better. Run them at about 12-15watts if you're just starting out. They'll handle 20 just fine, though.

Just need some juice after that... the TW starter kit only comes with 10ml. I'd recommend juice with about 12mg nicotine.

Wow so many replies thanks!. Ive reaserched what ya all posted and went to my vap shop here in town with my brother that also vapes.. After putting more time and reviewing the suggestions of the Nautilus, although more expensive is what i ended up going with.. My brother went with a cheaper 50$ vap a month ago was not to happy with it. Im quite pleased with the aspire Nautilus i just got.. Check out a review if not familiar with it. This was about $95. comes with 5 element thingys, charger, etc and couple vials..

Havent had a cig yesterday which was hard.. none today now, with this, today was much easier. Im pretty stoked to believe i can actually quit smoking now.. past times ive lasted a week, once two weeks. I think this will at least help kick the routine habit at least and can still ween myself off the nicotine in moderation.. Great community here guys, will def be following this.

@Mapper3d For the juice that comes with theTW kit, I'd say their RY4 is pretty decent. I notice they don't have a 12mg selection... I'd say the 14mg is probably your better bet. 12mg translates to 1.2% on sites that list by percent. Personally, I'd say go to your local brick and mortar vape shop and sample their liquids until you find one you like. Aim for that 12-15 mg and you should be golden.

Incidentally, that kit above and the two packs of coils come out to $47.98 total, including shipping. That's a complete kit with 11 coils and some starter juice. Go to that store fairly quickly, though... 10ml won't last long.

you'll probably want at least two set-ups (battery + tank) incase of unforeseen issues (breaking, defects, etc.) The Aspire ET-S isnt anything too fancy but you can pick a few up for not too much $ and they hold a lot of juice (3ml or so). You'll most likely want a battery with a high MAH rating, like something over 1000mah. The Vision Spinner or Vision Spinner 2 are nice choices or a Kangertech EVOD Twist 1000 Mah are very affordable. If you really want to quit, a leaking tank or a dead battery will have you running out for a pack of smokes pretty quickly, so back ups are pretty universally suggested. Variable voltage is nice, even in a ego/pen style because you can crank them up when they're close to dying and you won't loose any vape production.

Nautilus is a good tank. You should be happy. Use the newer cotton coils... your shop owner will know what that means.

$95 for a starter kit, replacement coils, and some juice is a little high, but that's the price of buying local. If you're happy, that's all that matters.

Now you get to have fun and sample juices until you settle in on something. That's one of the best parts of this journey you've set out on.

Best of luck, and welcome!

Oh i did have a few questions:

1. Does my sense of smell and taste come back after i completely quit smoking after a month while still vaping?
2. Does this still effect yellowness of teath?
3. The aspire Nautilus has 5ML tank, how much is that in terms of smoking like.. Like one tank a day would be a pack or so? How often and how many draws do you do on average.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Everyone has given you great suggestions so no need to add any more to this. Just research prices and get something that will grow with your vaping needs. Most people after a few months decide they want more power and vapor production, so try to get a mods/battery that can handle future desires.

Congratulations on making this step.

1. Yes, you might even find that whatever flavor of juice you use at the beginning will no longer taste good to you after a month or so.

2. No, the vapor doesn't seem to cause staining.

3. Depends on what mg/ml juice you are using. If you are a pack a day smoker. I would say try an 18 mg/ml juice to start. Just vape until satisfied.

5ml would last me at the least the better part of a day.
Nic strength pretty much dictates how much I vape.
More complex. Nicotine strength play an important part.

Is good advice.
If you feel you need more nic, you can get 24mg. or higher.
If throat hit is excessive tone down to 12mg. and so forth. Lower the nic for me, the less throat hit (TH).
Might want to use search function upper right hand corner of page and type in "throat hit" and start reading.
For signs of too much nic, search "too much nic".
