trying to vape only but keep smoking

I know that back in 2006 the ecigs available weren't very good. I do think that nic levels play a part but is not the only factor. You could be right but we don't have enough information to jump to conclusions about it. I do know that the first time I vaped a genesis style atomizer I felt the nicotine in a way that I haven't since I started vaping. This guy is reaching out for help, so I think it makes sense to offer up whatever advice we can and hope that he finds something that works for him.

I was in a similar position, just couldn't quite stop smoking. WTA helped, but wasn't enough on it's own.
Started using 36 mg juice - smoking stopped instantly.
I now keep two apv's on hand - one with the 36 mg and one with 18 mg WTA. The 36 is too strong to vape all day, but the combo works for me.

Exact same story here! I've been fiddling with e-cigs for four years, trying to kick a 25+ year long 1.5 PAD habit. Sure, back then the devices sucked but so did the juice. And when most of the juice was being labeled "STRONG" for 18mg and "MEDIUM" for 12-16mg what's a guy to do? So it was a battle for the last few years. A month and a half ago I walked into a new B&M and walked out with a vision spinner, a couple of clearos, and a bottle of THEIR strongest juice... 36mg. I quit smoking instantly! Literally on my way home from the B&M. I didn't plan to quit that instant... I still had (and still do have) 2.5 packs of smokes left! I planned to finish them first and then "try" quitting with this new hardware and juice. Nope. The 36mg did it for me. A couple of days later I stepped down to 24mg and passed that same bottle of 36mg on to my wife, who I thought would *never* quit smoking. She quit the very next day. Neither of us have had a single puff of a smoke in over a month.

ok, sorry didn't give enough info. In 2009, I had quit smoking for 6 months. I was using the patch and the nicotrol inhaler (nicotine with a fat mouth piece that you breath into - no vapor, no electronics and no real flavor - just nicotine it says 10mg or 8mg delivery - can't remember). My doctor did not recommend using that again but recommended I try the electronic cigarettes again.

After using electronic cigarettes for a while, he recommended I go down to a lower nicotine (under 24mg) because of small heart problems starting. I tested with 18mg and though I was only having a cheater cigarette once a day, the heart problem was not seen anymore. After smoking a while (mainly because my KGO busted and I needed to get money to get a new system). I went to the KGO VV and was mixing same flavors and using the calculator to get 21mg - my doctor said that was ok also. I only got one battery and that was a problem because when I had to charge it, I would smoke. I got the spinner vv and while it was good, I still smoked - mainly because I didn't like the juice I had or it was the cartos I was using - always burning.

After my spinner vv broke and my KGO vv was overheating, I ordered the vamo, 2x 18350 batteries and the vivi nova. Once I had the batteries charged up and used it with the last remaining juice I liked from a friend of mine, I was in love. I had a perfect vapor - I actually had to go down in volts and am using it at the 4 - 4.5 watts. It gives me a throat hit at higher watts but I loose the taste of the juice. Before leaving for Malaysia, I was smoke free entirely for 2 weeks. I was in heaven - no stink sticks and was breathing much better. I get to Malaysia and got me some juice (I didn't bring any because I was told customs would confiscate it - I only brought enough in cartos for the plane ride out but no more).

I know where I can get an AGA-T (think that is the rebuildable atamizer with a tank) at a very good price. Genesis rebuildable attys are just too expensive here for some reason - unless it is the clones and I get this strange feeling not to trust those clones. That is something I never thought of. With the Vamo, I can really get a good kick out of something like that. It may also help, especially until I get the ingredients to do diy and get the right combination of flavors. I already have the PG and even some VG, and have a great place to go to get flavors - many more than I could find in the USA unless I went to a diy juice shop. I have found dragon fruit flavor and many fruits I love to eat. I can get the artificial and the natural/extract flavors here and for pennies. I just need the nicotine and maybe some of the additives that I have seen on the diy section.

For me, it is a small throat hit, nicotine levels and the body of the vapor. It I don't feel it then it is just as good as breathing air to me. That may also be something I need to find - add a little body to this ejuice with the small pg I have added and maybe it would be better. especially if the atty will help too (until I can make my own juices).

Yes, I did use the Malaysia forum, and got hooked up with 3 people that may order nicotine for me to diy. I know it won't be too difficult to make. I will be making simple recipes to begin with. I do need to go into the diy forum to find what additive gives a body or thicker ejuice besides pg. I like the juice with more vg - it is very smooth (I have tried the 30/70 pg/vg but it just needs a tiny bit of body or thicker vapor).

I was hoping that somebody also may know what else a person can do when they are limited. Thankfully, I have found some great fruit flavors and that is helping a lot.

My girlfriend does understand the vapor is much better than smoking in terms of health wise. She also understands it doesn't stink like smoking. She just doesn't understand the need for the nicotine and the nearly constant use of the electric cigarette. With her complaining, I get very stressed and go to the one thing that I know helps calm my nerves - the nicotine - but sadly get it from smokes instead. I need to fight this a bit more too.

I have tried the cantix or however it is spelled, zyban, welbutrin even in combination with the patch, gum, lozenges (which I hate more than anything), nicotrol inhaler and the nasal spray nic replacement, and yes even the electric cigarette. Yes, I also agree the e-cigs in 2006 were not great and some of the flavors was so horrible. I tried to put up with them but gave up.

so step one is get the rebuildable atty. I can talk her into letting me get a new atomizer - especially with other people saying that it can possibly help me not to light up a stink stick - that is what she is also calling them. I would love to have the flavor and the nic head swim from just vaping - that would be awesome - as long as it is just the nice morning swim; don't like any mid day or end of day head swim. lol

step two is find the additive to add body to my ejuices I have now.

step three is something I have to wait until the people will order nic juice - told them it can be 50mg or even 36mg and I can then weaken it further - just get to 21mg. Get nic juice and begin practice making own e-juice.

step four is try help girlfriend understand a little more and try harder not to smoke.

thanks everyone for the input. It is really helping me think of how to make this better.

have not got the atty yet but did watch you tube videos (pbusardo especially) and changed a little in my technique. This has helped a lot and today found some 18mg juice. hopefully I will get the atty, 18mg juice and with the modified technique will have been set. I only had 5 stink sticks yesterday after watching the videos and modified my vape technique.

thanks everyone for helping me with this. Now if I can help my girlfriend understand a little more then all would be great.

Ok finally got the AGA T2 and used a nail the right size to make the coil. I had to do some tinkering to get hot spots out. It is showing at 1.7 ohms and doing pretty good. Goes through ejuice nearly as fast as water evapurates in a dessert.

Will be trying different ejuices to find flavors I really like. I am using two now that are good just taste a little watered down in flavor and nic level. The laws here got tougher for higher than 12mg and plans to have cigarettes nic levels cut down to 1mg per cig is being discussed.

Had to get a new battery cuz stupid me put battery in picket with car keys and it burned my leg a little and began to leak. I disposed in proper manner (rechargeable battery recycle bin).

Took me several attempts on making coil and wick but got it now. I may have to try increasing ohms a little and drop power not cuz of the hit but because it us heating up very quickly and gets very hot. It is also draining the battery just as fast as it is drinking up the ejuice. Lol

thanks for the advise. i have tried snus before and it was horrible. besides the university of texas medical research showed increase in gum disease with it.

There is an avalanche of evidence to the contrary on this issue with SNUS. You don't like it, so it won't work for you. I have not seen this study, so I cannot comment on it, other than to say SNUS is very heavily researched and an effective harm-reduction method. Visit CASAA if you want to see more research on it.

Have you tried any Whole Tobacco Alkaloids (WTA) e-liquids? They are very effective for smokers who are trying to quit.

In my opinion its just not the nicotine in cigs that hook you. I started at 18 mg nic and the first month was horrible! I basically fell apart. But now I feel great. And the thing is now I have no cravings! I can go all day without vaping if I have to. So thats why Im convinced there was something else in there that kept us coming back for more.

Yes i have seen the research that shows snus to be another reduced harm or safer habit. It is much the same as using ecigs in my book. Think the research done was with the earliest time of snus and it was a long term effect. It is still much safer than using dip and such.

Even if I did like snus it still would not work for me for several other factors. No big deal really; i do like to do my own research on anything I try or do as I have found that some claim research done when in fact it was not. Do not forget also that there are many people claiming research done on ecigs and claim they are harmful also but many of us have seen the so called research they have done.

Yes, I do agree it is not just the nicotine in cigs that hook ppl. There are over 2000 chemicals added to smoking tobacco and it was discovered about 500 chemicals in ciggs that claimed no added items like Winston

I know that for me the nicotine is the main key. I had quit smoking for several months using the patch and nicotrol inhalers. The inhalers do not have any vapor but just nicotine. After comparing my experience with the ecigs and the nicotrol inhalers, i discovered not other chemicals for what I liked and needed but the flavor, nicotine hit and TH. It does not mean that other chemicals are not addictive also, just they effect ppl different in that area. The other problem that some ppl have learned is the nicotine is not delivered as fast so for some it takes time to adjust. For me, it took about 4 days after getting the vamo and vivi nova to adjust. I was informed by my dr not to go over 24mg in the nic and made mine about 20 - 21mg and was quit smoking completely for 2 weeks before coming to Malaysia and getting no higher than 12mg was difficult. I was having all the same nic cravings and jitters as I was having when i began using the nicotrol inhaler with the patch. These cravings and jitters were while vaping. I figured if i can at least get the nicotine TH and maybe taste that i could trick my mind and not go through that as much.

As far as the whole tobacco alkoloids eliquids go, never heard about them. If that tastes as decent as the roll your own whole tobacco it would not be bad but sadly can't find or get whole tobacco anything here in Malaysia. Here, the cigarettes and tobacco products are very carefully monitored. If this is out here I have not seen it and possible on the black market. In the USA, I can go almost anywhere and get rolling paper but here i have not seen anybody selling them. I did see loose tobacco at a european tobacco store but even that tobacco was cut in terms of nic amount and one person from England said tasted like it was watered down.

Well the ATA T2 is helping a lot. Maybe find a better eliquid that will have better TH. The ata really is heating it up and the vapor is thick. Flavor is nice but not my favorite. Maybe i can increase the PH somehow and get better TH and get more of the nic. i have only smoked 3 ciggs since getting the ATA built yesterday (not including the 4 I had while waiting for both my batteries on the charger). I may have to get several more batteries. In about 4 hrs my one was needing back on the charger. Sunday i will go to the night street market and find more ejuice (got 3 10ml bottles and about half gone -- used some for the wick for oxidizing and filled the tank and it almost empty now). But will say that about rm 15 per 10ml bottle and each bottle is still lasting about same as two packs is not too bad...each pack of ciggs is rm 9 so it still saving me money.
