Some tidbits from that webpage:

"2008

Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC) with the OU Cancer Institute received $5 million in grant funding over a 5-year period."

---------------------------

"2011
A ruling from the Attorney General’s office allows the trust to increase the amount of earnings that could be certified for TSET use. In FY11, $36,023,061 were certified for TSET use."

...
"2008

Very Hegelian looking to me. Thesis, antithesis and synthesis seem to be being established. Then, an excuse for continuing support of tobacco can be made. "Oh look, our tobacco research helps cancer research too. We need to support big tobacco lest they not allow continued research."

Someone told me something as kind of a rule of thumb. I know it does not always apply but at times it does seem fair on the mark. What I was told was, "take the cancer orgs allegedly studying on how to cure cancer .... are you kidding, cancer is big business, they're studying how to infect more people with it, drive up health care costs right along the way, think on it."

Seen it not only in the cancer orgs, but other health related such orgs, other industry orgs, other everything. Where there's money to be had, figure you got some pushing to keep the problem going to profit from it. Again not saying it applies in all cases.

Do note it seems applicable with all that alleged healthcare stuff. I've been turned away from two doctors over wrong insurance in two months. It's the wrong insurance I figure because it's not the insurance that lets itself get milked dry financially. In other words, the doctors are fleecing the insurance companies for all their worth. In turn the insurance companies are fleecing the people, either directly or via taxes. Oh, and you have to buy insurance or be on government insurance, by law now.

Had a doctor ask about my vaping. Well, not really ask so much as, "you need to quit that, still has nicotine in it."

My reply with a blank stare was, "So?"

The doctor stuttered. "it's addictive, poison, causes cancer."

I sighed, "doctor, not telling you how to practice but look up some new research on nicotine. All that you just said has been proven false. Again, I'll ask, so?"

At a point now, I'll be happy to find an old country critter doc what don't care fer money much beyond a modest token. Becoming clear the doctors now no longer care about actual doctoring, patients. If they did they would be doing two things, treating regardless of money, staying abreast of current research globally via use of the internet/web. Not seeing any do either of these, ergo, conclude they no longer care. Fine, I no longer care being for doctored by uncaring doctors. Think that only fair.

Apologies, did not intent to derail. Was attempting to convey the point that it all does seem to boil to money.

I've had 'public health' show me it's corrupt side years before I started vaping. After seeing how it treats vaping I think we'd be better off if the FDA was abolished. They don't protect us from snake oil, they make it more expensive. I've been around long enough to see some people close to me die. The health care system had nothing to offer them but condolences. That's nobody's fault, everybody dies of something. Yet we spend vast sums on "health care". What is that exactly, besides expensive? I'm really not sure. When I try to improve my own health it mobilizes an army of nazis who try to interfere. Time to be rid of them.

That's exactly the kind of doctor I have, courtesy of living in a TINY rural town for 13 yrs -- when I called yesterday to make an appt for my asthma checkup, apparently the office staff was "at lunch" -- it rang and rang, and finally -- THE DOCTOR! picked up the phone -- when I said I wanted to make an appt for a checkup, he says, "Andria?" :D Asked me to call back in a half hour. :D He doesn't accept any form of electronic payment, just cash, checks, and will bill you -- he knows I have no insurance, so when something is costly, he bills me, and I pay it as I can. Simply amazing in the 21st century.

He's been my asthma (and GP) doc for about 18 yrs; all along, he knew I smoked, and had finally stopped recommending NRT, because he knew it was a total waste of time. When I showed up in 2014 with the news that I had finally quit smoking, thx to vaping, he was positively ELECTRIFIED! Spent at least 30 minutes checking out my mod, asking questions about it, how it worked, how often I used it, if it got rid of cravings, if I ever planned to stop using it. And he is just thrilled to the teeth about the whole thing -- he's in his 60s, with a mostly geriatric practice, and in a rural southern town, that means he has a LOT of older long-term smokers as patients, with all the usual ailments that go with it. I could see the gleam in his eye about recommending vaping to a lot of his practice!

Look in a small town, at least 25 miles from even the suburbs of a city -- you may find the kind of doctor that can understand how valuable vaping really is!

I dumped Kaiser Permanante in San Diego and switched to SIMNSA in Tijuana last year, for ongoing treatment of Parkinsons Disease ...

A neurologist at Kaiser prescribed a medication for Parkinsons symptoms that caused episodes of vision loss (kaleidoscope vision). I had 15 minute office visits with a $40 copay, even less time if the doctor took a phone call or arrived late to the exam room, and medication that caused temporary blindness ...

In Mexico, my office visits are typically one hour long with a $7 copay, and my current neurologist immediately prescribed medication that actually works to suppress tremors, with no apparent side effects. I see this doctor about every three months, and he answers my emails personally ...

And yes, I live in one of the San Diego suburbs that banned vaping in return for a "clean air" grant, and the opportunity to issue more "public smoking" citations ... :(

I stealth vape in public, even in my car, to avoid situations like this ...

My wife's parents have a condo in Rosarito Beach.
They get their hair done in Tijuana, as well as their dental work.

Perhaps I should suggest they look into this SIMNSA thing for health care?

Get used to it.

Health care is a misnomer per se. If you ARE healthy, you don't need their 'care' - means they won't be making a rusty nickel off you. And health has become a commodity like everything else in a mercantilized world. Top dollar gets you top care. Broke gets you two aspirin and 'come back next week' ( if you're still alive by then )....

If surgeons get bonus payments for performing a certain number of surgical procedures, his/her motivation for putting a scalpel to your hide might not be your health but that expensive car in the neighborhood showroom...

There was a period in history where in China they district doctors - precursor to today's public healthcare officials, if you will. If said officials had too many sick people in their are of responsibility, the emperor ordered impromptu surgery for them. Like permanent remobal of the cranium 'cuz apparently, they weren't doing their job right...

And just like all the other moves BT and BP are making are proving a point :

Vaping works and that scares them ..less.

SIMNSA is not permitted to sell their health insurance in the US, except through employer plans, or to those of Hispanic heritage, for obvious reasons. Their premiums are about 1/3 of comparable US plans. I had the insurance for 18 months through a COBRA plan, but those benefits ran out last month ...

However, they have a workaround. Anyone can acquire a "Mexsalud" membership, $75 per year, $25 copay for office visits, and a 30 percent discount at their pharmacy. Its not insurance, but it gets you in the door, to see real doctors who really care ...

The SIMNSA building is just a few block from the San Ysidro border crossing, its a very modern facility, and all of the specialists and most of the office staff are bilingual ...

Sadly, the excessive border crossing time (as much as four hours in the pedestrian lanes) back to the US discourages much of the potential medical tourism, unless you pony up for a SENTRI or Global Entry card. And last August, Mexico began enforcing passport checks for foreign nationals, another delay crossing into Mexico. There have been discussions to begin charging fees at the border. At the new crossing from San Diego to the Tijuana airport, they charge $18 in both directions ...

Shoot me a PM if you want more details, I'm delighted to share this discovery with anyone who is disappointed with health care in San Diego, as I was ...
