My wife firmly believes that I, at the very least, have some form of OCD. Cleaning the apartment, washing my car, following assembly/repair instructions step by step, you get the idea. Now, with my new found love for vaping, I've picked up a few more habits. I've read horror stories on here and elsewhere on the interwebs about fellow vaper's batteries shorting, overheating, and catastrophically failing. Since then, I've had my own little bed-time routine with my vape equipment. I'd like to know what you do and if you have any recommendations.

1. Remove clearos/tanks off of my eGo Twists
2. Refill clearos/tanks
3. Wipe down fittings/connectors/contacts dry
4. Place clearos/tanks on paper towel to see if any leak overnight.
5. Recharge batteries
6. Remove batteries from charger (I never leave them on after they turn green)
7. Shut off all batteries
8. Place rubber condoms on tips of batteries that are fully charged & will not be used the next day

What are your habits? Thoughts? Recommendations?

And yes, I have thought about trying to vape whilst sleeping but I can't think of a way to vape, hydrate, relieve myself, and sleep at the same time. If anyone has a contraption that will allow me to do all four at the same time, please let me know!

Mostly I use a X2 battery (which is also a pasthrough) or my eGo battery/passthrough. I just take a little bottle of e-juice in my needle top bottle, my selected PV for the night, a filled mega cartomzer or Elite carto (for the X2), passthrough cord that goes with, and plug into my Dash by the side of my bed. Vape and read my Kindle until stupidy tired...turn off light and go to sleep.

As for any batteries that might need charging overnight...I hook 'em up so I can sit them (no more than 2) on the stainless steel top of my convection oven and don't worry about it. Whatever still needs charging can wait until the next day.

Set PV down go to sleep. You don't disconnect the battery from your laptop do you? I will agree with taking the battery off the charger or at least making sure it's not sitting someplace that it could start a fire.

High power batteries should not be taken for granted. If it's out of the PV and in a battery case, it's 100% safe. I've seen what they can do. I'll keep taking mine out kthnx.

Yup, OCD for sure dude.

The only thing I really do is lay my eGo with clearos attached on their sides on doubled-up paper towels to look for leaking! Good thing I did this the other day because one of my clearos became compromised. It already had cracks near the tip but it had yet to leak. Will the other night it finally did and I lost a good milliliter worth of watermelon eJuice, what a bummer!

I am pretty Nazi about cleaning the heads every other day. But it seems like I'm starting to widdle down my collection of T2 clearos. I will have to buy a couple more I suppose. I was lucky in that when I originally got my T2s I bought them in a five pack for $20.50. Since then I haven't seen the Kangers in a five pack.

So far, I just make sure my Twists are powered down and nothing's on the charger. Anything with juice in it is shut away in a cupboard if I'm not using it. I have a curious cat that likes to chew on things. Plus I foster for a rescue group, so I frequently have kittens in the house. I would imagine it wouldn't take much exposure to the nic juice to make them sick, or worse.

I'm also hyper about washing my hands after handling juice for this same reason.

I'm thinking it may be a good idea to start taking any atomizers off, too.

I for one being new to all this never thought about all the risks associated with the usage of the rechargeable batteries. I am really happy to have been refered to these forums. I know now I will be taking more measures to make sure I am treating these batteries with respect. I never thought once about carrying them in my pocket or such but now when transporting I will be removing tank or atty and making sure unit is shut off and disconnected from charger when they are fully charged.

*charge all batteries 5 before 12.
*drain juice on viva Nova and clean to prevent slurpies.
*Change heads on vision version 2 if needed.
*Clean all batteries with rubbing alcohol and cue tip.
*Fill up all/ top off all carromizers clearomizers.
*Grab by 18650 ego upgrade and put my cartomizer on for the night.
*Grab all batteries juices and heads and put in my plastic storage bin.
*Go to bed with battery in hand ready for a wake and vape.
*Wife's mad bc I took an hour from her once again Lol.

Algerhugz, keep in mind that I do admit to going overboard with my units but I always like to be safe than sorry. Most of the catastrophic failures of batteries that I've read about have been the eGos not shutting off & getting hot or the larger replaceable batteries used in higher quality mods. I don't have enough experience with either to say that I've seen it first hand but its enough to make you think.

That's an impressive routine, OP.

All I have so far is 2 eGo Twists. I just leave them on my desk at night. I don't top off the cartos, I don't wipe anything down, I don't check for leaks - I don't even turn them off.

I think I'll have to step this up a bit to avoid a small catastrophe.

Haha. Thanks Lumberjack. I kind of expected the thread to continue the course and have more people tell me that my wife is right and I may be going full blown OCD. To be clear, I could probably go to sleep just as well by NOT going through my usual routine but I just want to be safe and have my equipment last as long as I can help it. Again, like I said above, I'm not here crying gloom & doom, saying that everyone will end up with a "small catastrophe" on their hands but rather be as safe as I can. Vape on!

Certainly Dkim, Thats exactly what this post has done for me and I probably will not go to the extent which you yourself has said is extensive at least not with what I am using now but I will be sure to take a couple steps to precaution now just knowing some of the things that can happen. Such as just making sure I remove things from the chargers and making sure my equipment is turned off and disconnecting the tank, atty, or cart. Just simple steps as nothing I use right now have removable batteries but I am sure that will change in the future. I am looking in to a provari sometime in the near future which I know is a big jump from what I am using now but I have a friend with one who loves it and I have tried it and really like it myself but as I save for that I may go with an ego twist. But like I said just brought to light some simple steps I can take to minimize my risks.

And really its all about piece of mind you have to do what you have to do to make yourself feel comfortable. :) Again just so happy I have found this forum its a great place to learn and share. :)
