So first off I'm using a piece of 26g single strand kanthal, twisting it and did 6 wraps and ending up with .4-.5 ohms (it jumps back and forth but mostly stays on .4ohms) I used steam-engine and it said 6 wraps for each coil for a .3 duel coils twisted, how many twist do I need to do on each to reach .35-.4ohms?

This is what one looks like at .4ohms, also I'm tasting a very nasty metal/unhealthy sort of taste when I just tried this in just this single coil and the wicks and coil seem to be soaked... any reasons why that could be or how to fix that god awful taste? started to regret even trying twisted coils -.-

Did you test-fire it before wicking? Or you know, pulsing it to prime the coil. It helps you to align and shape the coil better and also get the dirt/metal residues off from the coil. I'm thinking the taste might be coming from that residue from the kanthal wire that's not burnt off. Or.. is the rda new? Try cleaning the RDA by getting a cup of boiling water and put the RDA in to get the machine oil out.

Sorry for getting back to you say late, I've been super busy! But yeah, I fired it up and pulsed it and took some tweezers to it to make sure there wasn't any hot spots or anything. The rda I'm using is a few months old and I've never had this problem with the taste out of any of the normal regular coils I've done but every time I just pulse the coil it like smokes and makes a noise.. it's weird and I'm not even sure what it could be.

How tight you twist the wire will change how much wire legnth is in each wrap. Tighter twist will raise the resistance for a given number of wraps, looser twist will lower it.

Funky taste sounds like a hot leg.

Personally I think twisted coils are a waste of wire. A simple dual parallel of the same ID will work better and cover more surface of wick.

The trick with parallel coils is to twist the legs after you wrap the coil while it is still on the rod. This will keep the parallel wires aligned.

Thanks for the feedback, defiantly was probably loosely wrapped on my end as it was the first one I ever tried and done it with pliers and a pen lol. How would a hot leg be fixed? Do you have any pictures you could refer me to with a parallel build that has the legs twisted and such just for a reference? How many wraps with 26g on a dual parallel for .35-.4ish ohms?

While im making this coil I'm curious, why the fixation on 0.4 ohms? You are using a regulated mod. Resistance does not matter with regulated mods. (As long as the mod will fire the resistance to the wattage you want)

Vaping lower ohms just suites me more and is more of a thing for me rather than having a higher ohm coil. .3 is as low as my subox mini goes sadly until I can find a good decent priced dual 18650 regulated mod to pick up. I don't have an ohm reader so I don't build lower then .33ish so I don't go too low and my device end up not firing.

Ok, just so you know 50W is the same amount of heat if it comes off a 0.35 or a 0.8.

Hope you like huge coils. 26 gauge dual parallel , 12/11 wrap, 3mm ID

Edit: for a single coil it would be 6/5 wrap 3mm ID

I recommend using 28 gauge if you intend on using parallel builds like twisted, fused Claptons, etc. 26 is a bit too thick and low resistance.

Oh wow, the more and more I learn. But you can necessarily run any resistance coil on 50w can you? Or does it not really matter since it's on an RDA? Wouldn't a 0.35 coil give off a ton more vapors then a 0.8 though? How long does that 12 wrap take to actually heat up, seems like it would take forever.. I'll try it though and see what a build like that taste and feels like. Is their an easier way to wrap them besides trying to hold the wires as close as possible while wrapping or what? Yeah defiantly going to have to get more gauge wire, started out with building with just 26g and never got around to getting other gauges to play around with.

As long as the resistance is within the mods amp and voltage limits for 50W (for example) it does not matter.

RDA, RTA, factory coil... Does not matter.

will walk all over this 26 gauge 0.35 ohm coil at 50W

I'll take some pictures of how i make these.

Sounds like I defintly need to be taking a trip to the vape store.. tried twisting the leads with by hand and it defiantly doesn't look as neat as yours do xD

First I take a legnth of wire and fold it in half. Then twist the loose ends together.

Then I put it in my wire gizmo
(See demonstration in my signatire line below)

Then grab the leads with a hemostat and twist.

Waiitttt so I'm not actually using two strands of wire like I have been lol xD? Just one wire folded over, does it make a difference or just to save wire? How many wraps was that triple parallel btw?

It's still two legnths of wire. Its just easier to keep tension even if you fold one long length of wire versus two separate shorter lengths

The 32 gauge triple parallel is a 12/11 wrap 2.5mm (36wraps total/12x3)
