Firstly hello all!! I'm a novice DIYer. I've been blending for about a month now. I'm very impressed with the juices I'm able to make myself. I worked in a local vape shop for almost a year and had the opportunity to taste a lot of juice. good and bad. So I think I'm going in the right direction. I just have a couple questions for all you experts. :)

First, Flavors changing after you have been vaping them for a while. Why does this happen? How is this happening? For example. I did a TFA Strawberries and cream....tastes good for the first 5-8 vapes. Then it starts to become very floral,,and even a little rubbery tasting? Very odd as this is the first time I've run into this happening and I've got about 7 flavors and recipes that are simply heaven.
Can any of you shed some light on this?

Secondly..the use of Alcohol/distilled water. It's been my understanding that these items are used simply to "cut" or thin down the juice. I would think the PG would do that. But I'm coming across more and more recipes where blenders that have years experience are using everclear in juice, and distilled water. Is my thought process on this incorrect? Is it simply not a cutting agent? So why use it? and please explain. I'm very wary of these ingredients going in my juice. I just need to understand more on this.

Thanks in advance for any and all help on these questions! :vapor:

Greetings and welcome to the forums.

This could be due to it needing steeping. TFA flavors are notorious for a floral taste when first mixed. Let it sit a week and then go back to it and see if the flavor mellows and the floral taste should go away. If it is a tobacco it may need even longer. Tobaccos usually take 3 - 4 weeks.

Secondly..the use of Alcohol/distilled water. It's been my understanding that these items are used simply to "cut" or thin down the juice. I would think the PG would do that. Water or everclear is generally used when creating mixes with very high VG concentrations usually 80VG\20PG and higher. Some vapers are sensitive to PG and try to use as little of it as possible. Water and everclear will thin the mix to let it wick better in the carto and eliminate dry hits. If you use a higher PG concentration in your mix then it is usually not nessessary to add water or everclear.

For more information I've created a few blogs that will help you in your mixing journey. And I'll suggest some other reading which will help. And most importantly if you don't understand something ask away thats what we're for.

And there are some helpful stickies at the top of the forum page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

I can't answer question about the changing taste of TFA Strawberries and cream but juices can change taste over time. So can your taste buds.

PG ethyl alcohol and water are all used thin juice.

PG works but some people have an intolerance for high levels of PG and it adds harshness to the juice. It also has the highest boiling point of the three 368 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ethyl alcohol has the lowest boiling point 172 degrees Fahrenheit and takes the least amount to thin the juice.
Water also works but it's boiling point is higher than alcohol, 212 and it takes more of it to thin the juice than alcohol. Everclear is the highest proof alcohol that is easily available. vodka is also used.

It is up to you which one you want to use.

Awesome!! dannyv45 I've read a lot of your post and know for a fact you know what your doing. Thanks for your time. I think its just this particular flavor. I use primarily TFA and LA flavorings and have never had this issue. Danny I use a hot steep method I'm sure your aware. Nearly boiling water...steep 5min...then flash cold. This method has worked very well for me. But agree with most of my recipes, they always taste better after a week. :)

And just wanted to make sure I was thinking correctly on the use of Alch/distilled water. I personally don't have any issues with PG and I'm not a dragon chaser so no need for high VG juice/ :) Mostly I run 50/50 and that works fine on most. Thanks a bunch. Going to try tobacco today......wish me luck. Looking forward to about 20+ variants to get this right. LOL.

Cheers,
