I made the switch to e cigs about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and have been using the same atty this entire time, just to find out how long they last. This first atty just died tonight. I was kind of expecting them to last a lil longer, but maybe I didn't take care of it well enough? So my question is, what is the typical lifespan for a traditional 510 atty?

How long is a piece of string?

Seriously, they are the most random element in e-cigs IMO.

I have been using the same 5 atties since October, I don't take any special care of them, just give them a good wash every now and then (I was more fussy when I first started out, but I have become more blase about it now, if one dies I'll grab a spare out of my little stash).

Hi VaporFan87, I have two 510's that I alternate on, only because I like to let one drain upside down occasionally ...going on 2+ months and I use The Chuck at 6 volts.

For me, my biggest change in them lasting longer was when I stopped using cartridges (which I don't like) and I drip only - 2-3 drops. Before this, I lost them in a short time.

Not sure what others have found, but this is how it's working out for me now and I'm happy with the results.

If it heats up at all--it's not dead...maybe just dying.

Any way, I've had two of mine four months...the rest around two months. The two four month ones are laying over thene on the side--not working at all. The others are okay. I don't do anything to clean mine but I use to blow them out occassionally I blew them out.

Drip and keep the bridge of the atty wet will go a long wayt o give you the amount of life you can get from the atty.

Lifespan. anywhere from a few days(not typical) to 6 months depending if the atty likes you or not..

Are you sure yours is dead for sure? If it shows any heat probably is going out..
If it is just dead as a doornail then either battery is not charged, battery connector to atty issue going on or you have a dead atty..

Out another attyon, If it works ok your previous atty is most likely had it!

Good luck!

Actually, from what I've been hearing they might NOT be dead... It still heats up like normal, but it tastes more burnt than dry poly-fil and barely any vapor comes out. I'm vaping on my silver bullet at 6V and I've been tailpiping for the past week, so it's definitely not the poly. I don't know whats going on.
Have you cleaned it?

After a while the atty will build up burnt juice and start to put out less and less vapor. Mine will actually get hard to draw which is me first hint that the atty might need to be cleaned. All I do is soak it in warm water then turn it battery side up and let it dry out for a couple of days. I think you need to get some juice on it when it dries out to keep the bridge from corroding.

IME bad juice is the #1 cause of atty failure. I can plainly see that some juices don't even wick properly and leave the polyfill in the cartridges clogged with colored junk. Same thing is certainly happening to the atty.

I've had one atty last way over a month (still going) on decent juice, while at the same time having 2 die on crappy juice from the same vendor.

So you can't even count on juice from the same vendor. It's the sad state of having 90% of the vendors mix Dekang juice with random flavorings to produce their juices. Some flavorings are just fine, but nobody seems to have the quality control to know if the flavorings they are adding even vaporize properly.

A dead atty ( imo), is when it is cold, no heating. if it's just weaker or just not performing the same, well that's the fun of the 510 atty.
2 1/2 wks is not normal for an atty to 'die' ( but there is no normal for a 510)
Try what so many others will suggest, blow it out, keep it wet.
I am still learning about how these work. I have had 2 that lasted months and some that lasted more than one month. Some say that a month to six wks is a good life, I mean they can last longer, but I tend to forget how the quality drops off until I start a new one.
Don't throw them out so fast, you will learn more and may be able to put some life backe into the ones you thought were 'dead'
Good luck

LOL, I'm finding that to be very true. That's a good way of putting it. I just hope it's not going to be this often. Anyways, how much are you paying for a an atty?

You can buy the multipack atomizers at Totally Wicked USA for 7.99 each. Batteries are 10.99. You can also buy a multicharger for 24.99. Nhaler has atomizers for 9.00 and batteries 11.50.

If you buy the multicharger which charges 5 batteries at one time you can have several 510 you can use for as little as 19.00. That way I have about 15 510s that I use at one time. I use batteries until I have 5 that needs to be recharged. Then I still have 10 regular to use. This saves a lot of time.

I have some atomizers that are 4 months old. It is really hard to tell how long they last since I am constantly switching the 510 units.

When I soak atomizers to clean them then some of them will die. If I just blow them out they seem to last longer.

I'm pretty sure the main reason atomizers go bad is due to the buildup of gunk, which either starts to adversely affect performance, or eventually puts enough pressure on the coil to snap it where it attaches.

I think your right on this one DC.. if it's making like a gargling sound when I draw on it, does that mean it's flooded? Because ever since I started dripping, I've been hearing that noise, and me being a newb, I just kept on vaping. <----imo, I don't think it's just a coincidence that all 3 of my atties went out around the same time. Does that sound like something that would cause premature death on an atty?

I tried blowing them out first, then I tried soaking them in warm water, like I was told, then let them try for almost 2 days. I just tried all 3 of them again, just now, and still the same thing. It's not putting out any vapor and everything tastes like burnt paper, it's disgusting... but it's still heating up...?

A gurgling sound could very well mean it is slightly flooded.
But usually you can just vape right through that.

When it is really flooded then it becomes harder to draw on and you get no vapor.
At that point it won't even gurgle, and you do need to blow it out.

I tried blowing them out first
That should have worked, as long as you blew them out hard enough.

then I tried soaking them in warm water, like I was told, then let them try for almost 2 days
I've never heard of soaking in warm water, although I'm not saying it wouldn't help.
But you'd probably be better off boiling them for a short time.

But ssuming warm water does help, that should have worked too I guess.
As long as you primed them before using them again.

I just tried all 3 of them again, just now, and still the same thing. It's not putting out any vapor and everything tastes like burnt paper, it's disgusting... but it's still heating up...?
This is somewhat of a mystery then.
:(

When you blew them out did you have a good amount of liquid coming out?

As far as them tasting like burnt paper, did you make sure to put a few drops on the atomizer after you cleaned it and let it soak in for awhile, and then put a few more drops? I ask because a full atomizer can only take a couple of drops without flooding, but a completely cleaned and dried atomizer can take a heck of a lot more drops.

I'm thinking you might try boiling them for a few minutes if all else fails.
