UC campuses will ban smoking - latimes.com

The 10-campus University of California system will become smoke-free over the next two years, UC President Mark G. Yudof said in a letter to chancellors earlier this month.Yudof said that UC Medical Center and 586 university campuses nationwide already ban smoking, and the UC system -- as a "national leader in healthcare and environmental practices" -- should follow suit. He said that over the next 24 months, the campuses across the state should begin implementing smoke-free policies.
In the letter, he wrote that smoke-free means prohibiting not just cigarettes but also smokeless tobacco products and unregulated nicotine products, in both indoor and outdoor spaces -- including parking lots and residence halls. The sale and advertising of tobacco products will also be blocked, he said.
"Offering a smoke-free environment will contribute positively to the health and well-being of all UC students, faculty, staff and our patients and visitors," Yudof wrote.
In terms of enforcement, the plan is to be educational, focusing on wellness, rather than punitive.
"Each campus will be developing their own policy, and as long as they’re moving forward in a positive direction, that’s really what we want," Grace Crickette, UC's chief risk officer, told the Daily Californian, the student newspaper at UC Berkeley. "Even after they implement it … it’s always going to be an ongoing challenge to help people live healthier.”

So once again it looks like the uninformed nannies will infringe on the rights of us vapers.

mods, if this doesn't belong in this forum, please move it.

Ahh, yes, the University of Kentucky. The main reason why UK and five Kentucky cities / counties ban e-cigarette use is headquartered at the School of Nursing -- the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy.

I'd urge you to speak to the chief anti there, but then you'd open yourself up to accusations of prohibited stealth vaping, and I don't want you to get in trouble.

i think that i'd like to try to slip some information and try to have a couple of quiet conversations with some docs that i trust. after all, the smoking cessation nurse actually had me on 24mg patches while i was still smoking with the idea of weaning me down and then i also tried the chantix. surely, 6 months of being analog free should count for something.....

You know what though... As a non-University employee, but one who happens to frequent the UKMC ER daily. I vape like a mad man when I'm there in the EMS charting room. I have yet to have anyone say anything to me about it. It's not like I'm secretive about it either.

But I did get the email, and saw that in the policy. I chuckled. Like with most "rules" passed by idiots, I ignore them. Something I have found in my many years of wandering this earth, that weenies who pass rules like this, usually don't have the stones to enforce them. So I don't worry about it.

Mmmm...We have a lot in common...I've been ignoring idiots for years

Anyone ever watch The Dog Whisperer on TV?
Lots of human psychology there! Just show your back to the idiots and refuse to
acknowledge they even exist. They will shut up and leave and look for someone else
to harass. It really really really does work
:p
