Uh oh! Blocked sinuses....

p.s. AgentAnia, from what I read on the Green Smoke web site, there is nickel in the atomizers in most companies and when heated the nickel breaks down in to particles (funny, because my doctor mentioned I might be reacting to particles in the air) and enters the lungs which is harmful. Whatever they use (can't recall right now) does not break down when heated. If this helps any...:)

Don't vape heavy metals.

A review of the basics:

A PBusardo Video - Beginners Guide to E-Cigs and E-Cig Tech - YouTube

You need a new setup. The Phil Busardo video above is a good starting point. Some good advice here for you as well. Good luck!

Edit:

Never experienced blocked sinuses. Don't go cheap on your VapeGear. Go for the best quality you can afford. I've not even heard of nickel exposure in vaping yet. This is a first for me. Good luck!

Thanks Bill, being a woman (an older woman) I prefer the type I use which looks like the black sleek ecig he held up in the video. I have to make a correction because I've been posting "Green Smoke" instead of the proper name of the new company I will be trying "Green Nicotine".

There is a lot to learn about what is inside of all of these devices and of course there haven't been any real studies that I know of, so we are all Guinea Pigs just trying to find our way in the dark. That is why I am trying to look at every angle and research, research, research. Because as much as I am loving this new way to smoke, I want to be and feel as safe as possible. I think this should be on all our minds. We gave up tobacco (Yay) and need to be aware of what we are doing now I think. :)

New Question

There is 18 mg. in the new ecigalike (I think they're called)and the cartridge is suppose to equal 2 1/2 packs of cig, that I will be trying. How can I figure what my nic intake was with tobacco (.9 per cig) and what I will be vaping? This is sort of confusing and I don't want to exceed my prior intake?

My math tells me it would be somewhere close to my previous nic intake...Am I figuring this correctly? Any experts out there who can help break this down for me? Much appreciated. :)

Just an FYI folks as one person mentioned using decongestants, using nasal sprays even just as little as 3 days in a row can and well cause RM which is commonly know as Rebound Congestion, about 10,000,000 people live with this condition, I know as I was hooked on nasal spray myself. There's no simple sure except to abstain, your Doctro well subscribe Steroids which only help for a short time, possibly several weeks.

Not saying this is the case with OP, or anyone in this thread. But it's a real life problem, google rebound congestion this is a wide and very bad thing, please avoid any nasal spray.

Again only time, usually several months of abstaining is the way to rid oneself of RM.

The math doesn't work out like that because of absorption rates etc etc etc, please go to CASAA.org and read their recent study, this should help u with your answer.

While your there please join CASAA.

Having dealt with sinus issues for the last 20 yrs I agree wholeheartedly. If anything is to be used I'd suggest a sinus rinse- follow ALL instructions.
Best to see a specialist. I had minor nasal issues before I began vaping which became a bigger issue after I began vaping. Surgeon "guessed" that it may have been the nicotine stimulating the growth of my polyps.
Is it your sinuses that are blocked or your nasal passage?

Thanks for the clarification on your vendor. I checked the GreenNicotine site (they're not really new, been around since 2011, which according to the ecig timeline almost qualifies them as a veteran, lol) and find what I believe to be some rather serious misrepresentations of the facts. However, this is your choice, of course. (I will say they're quite expensive for what you get, but again, that's your choice.)

Since you're a relatively new vaper, you probably haven't had a chance to read many of the numerous studies that have been done on ecigs and vaping, so you have many fun hours of reading ahead of you. :) A good place to get started is the CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association website, which has links to much of the current research. (I need to clarify my earlier post. Stainless steel is not plated over nickel. Doh! It's chrome. Chrome is plated over a nickel base on many of our household hardward, faucets and appliances and such. Some people with sensitivity or allergies to nickel have trouble with these. Gold-plated faucets anyone!)

Good point! I used to suffer from terrible sinus headaches from allergies, and discovered that taking antihistamines in any form resulted in rebound headaches after stopping use, in addition to rebound congestion. My solution? I started vaping (tho not strictly for that purpose). Have had only 2 sinus headaches in 10 months (instead of 2-3 per week prior), and those so minor that no meds needed. Score another one for vaping!

wow, thanks for the links!! Regarding this sinus issue, I have never had a condition before ecig and am not one to go on antihistamines. Tried the temp sprays and nothing!! I know it has to do with the ecig, am almost 100% positive... so need to do what I have planned and see where this takes me. Again, thanks for the link and I will check it out. :)

Can you tell me what about Green Nicotine does not add up for you?

You could be one of a few that have a reaction to PG, in which case you'd want to drop down your PG ratio, or move to VG exclusively. A reaction to PG could be a dry itchy throat, sore throat, chest pains (rare, but I've heard cases of it) and I would suppose if it can do that, it'd be possible to interfere with your sinuses, especially if you exhale through your nose quite often.

Hi Tactical, I am reporting back with what I've found out so far. I switched to Green Nicotine (VG based) and it is so disgusting that I can't even vape with it. a big YUK! But I also have tried what you suggested and that is not breathing smoke through my nose and guess what!??? :) It seems to be working!! I can't believe it. I suffered for 2 months with this issue. So a big thank you!!! So far so good any way.

I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with Di-propylene (sp) as this is what is in my Smart Smoke (the original ecig I've been using) rather than PG. Is this stuff dangerous?

From Wikipedia:

Dipropylene glycol finds many uses as a plasticizer, an intermediate in industrial chemical reactions, as a polymerization initiator or monomer, and as a solvent. Its low toxicity and solvent properties make it an ideal additive for perfumes and skin and hair care products. It is also a common ingredient in commercial fog fluid, used in entertainment industry smoke and haze machines

Also:

Industrially, propylene glycol is produced from propylene oxide[3] (for food-grade use), and global capacity in 1990 was 900,000 tonnes per year.[4] Different manufacturers use either non-catalytic high-temperature process at 200 °C (392 °F) to 220 °C (428 °F), or a catalytic method, which proceeds at 150 °C (302 °F) to 180 °C (356 °F) in the presence of ion exchange resin or a small amount of sulfuric acid or alkali.

Final products contain 20% propylene glycol, 1.5% of dipropylene glycol and small amounts of other polypropylene glycols.[5] Further purification produces finished industrial grade or USP/JP/EP/BP grade propylene glycol that is typically 99.5% or greater.

are there any eliquids that have started to add multivitamin/herbal remedies?... Like an alternative way to feel better?... I'm picturing dotara oils via eliquid... that would be insane... ly unhealthy?

There is a guy at work who uses DoTerra oils. His juices are very tasty and actually don't give you a stuffed up or weird sinus feeling after using them.

Now that the sinus issue has been resolved, I am wondering if any of you have noticed weight gain? ugh! I seem to be putting on weight since switching over to ecig. I've been smoke free for just over 60 days. I notice I am vaping less than I use to smoke . Example: A pack of cig. use to last me three days. A cartridge last me 4.5 days.
