I see a lot of post on this form and I wondered how many others are not working? For how long, and how are you getting by?

Me- I lost my job as a Floor covering (Tile, Carpet, Wood) Instalation manager in Jan 08'.

Currently going through WIA (workforce investment act) in an online training program to become an HVAC-R technician.

Fiance is working- I do the cooking, laundry, and step son disiplining. We are doing OK.

I got laid off about a month ago. Working as a Senior Software Engineer.

I went from $82,000 yr to unemployment. Oh, and my wife left two weeks before I got laid off, she emptied my house (at least she left my computer, bed, appliances, and dishes). I came home from work one day to an empty house, note and divorce papers. The note said "Please sign these, NOW!".

I echo test my living room for fun while I'm laying on the floor vaping away on my new Evo (It's awesome BTW).

At least I get this fun [underpaid] vacation.:)

Me and my wife separated from the military summer 08, thought for sure we'd have an easy time getting a job back home...damn was I wrong. LOL

Not only that, but right after we got down here, we found out we had a kid on the way, she's now almost 5 months old. =)

Plans change I guess. I'm going back to college this fall, gonna knock out what I didn't finish before I joined the military, wifey is probably gonna be the one working for now. Never thought I'd be a house hubby.

Wow - I am truly sorry for all you people.

We had massive layoffs at my company.

Once again, I dodged the 'bullet'.

I am a Senior Applications Developer and I feel for you guys that lost your
jobs to India. It makes me sick. They have been taking way too many of our IT jobs, call centers, etc. :-x

I pray this recession is coming to an end and everyone can get back to work!

Almost killed me, I'm remarried now to a girl I knew in high school, we were made for each other...it's paradise now for me....I know your first question, the answer - I was afraid to ask her out in high school...:D, my first marrage lasted 18 years, she ran off with my best friend at the time.....HER former high school sweetheart...I know, it's confusing

Well , i work for Starbucks on the supply chain operations side (roasting and distribution facility) i have dodged 2 bullets so far with layoffs , guess i'm kind of useful right? I'm in the MQA (quality assurance) department right now , and i was previously the assistant to the green coffee quality manager. That position was eliminated the day after they offered me a job in quality assurance.... phew. Honestly it's not thrilling work , but it's work

For what you guys charge for coffee, you should all be gazillionaires....... Of course, I think I am the only person on the planet who doesn't like Starbucks at all..................(the taste, not the company)

yeah , Starbucks coffee is certainly not for everyone , i love it ... but that does not mean there is not a whole other world of really really good coffee out there , Peets has some really good coffee... and even better Tea.

in the scope of the coffee world, Starbucks represents about %5 of what is actually out there.

I sold my biz for a song and was unemployed last year. Tried to find a job online no luck.
Finally I went pounding the pavement. Went to my local office park with my resume and went door to door. Within a week had a Part time Sales Job from 7:00 to 10:00.
At the same time I called all of my old suppliers and managed to get a sales Job from 10:30 to 5:30.

I just wanted to let yall know that pounding the pavement with your resume can work!

Probably depends on where you are too tomzgreat. My husband went through several months of unemployment last summer, took a job installing satellite TV (not the thing to do when you're approaching 50), and now has a better job doing what he does best. Still not a perfect situation, and so we're just kinda getting through day by day, week by week. I've been disabled for many years, with a clerical background, and more recently as a computer technician. Only problem with that is all the jobs are field service and I just can't physically manage it. I'd love to start our own biz, but the economy is just too scary. And people wondered why I smoked so much before i quit! lol

I was laid off in February. I was the Production Manager in a dental manufacturing plant. The company was sold to a Fortune 500 company, and my position was "eliminated." Two months later, a person from the parent company had my old job. So much for 10 years of loyalty - from a nickle and dime company to a $50M per year company. Luckily, we got ourselves completely out of debt 5 years ago. Living on unemployment and savings now. 100 resumes submitted - zero bytes. Nobody wants to hire a 64 year old man. Too broke to retire, but too old to find a job. Catch-22.

I was laid off December 26th, 2008 due to job elimination. Customer Service Supervisor for a staffing agency within a logistics warehouse.

Still on unemployment, and as of today I have about 1k left of my unemployment benefits.

My husband still works, but we're seriously considering a short sell on the house or if worse comes to worse, foreclosure. Three kids--1 in elementary, 2 in junior high, and 1 in high school.

It's tough...

I lost my job and home on August 29th when Hurricane Katrina decided to barrel through our city. I am a single father raising 4 daughters FUN. After Katrina we were displaced for about a year living in Shelters / Hotels finally made our way home to Nola.

Have found 1 job since and that company went under was a startup busines selling EMR systems { Electronic Medical records}. I found E-cigs at the beginning of this year knew these were the future took everything I could find and sold it and started TrueSmoker.com :)....

I am happier now than I have been in years! Now if only the FDA would leave us alone I would be content...
