I have a Finder DNA75c from Think Vape. I have 6 Sony VTC6 batteries, charged by a Nitecore D4 charger. It's my first box mod, and all the above were purchased in March.

Monitoring the battery charge levels in the mod, I thought that I was getting poorer use time than I anticipated, particularly as I typically am using 9-17 watts depending on the tank build and juice. I noticed when taking the "depleted" batteries out and placing them in the charger that one battery would indicate a nearly full charge, while the second would indicate a partially discharged state as expected. At first I thought I simply had a "bad battery". I tested with other battery pairs, however, and the same thing happened.

Then when the mod showed it was time to change batteries, I experimented. I put only one battery in the mod (using the first bay position, i.e. furthest inside the mod). Trying both batteries in this manner, it showed one battery was indeed nearly fully charged and the other was partially discharged.

I then put both batteries in the mod, alternating the position in the bay. If the battery with a lower charge is inserted first, the mod reads total charge as that same as if only that single battery was being used. The reverse is also true, put a fully charged battery in first, and partially charged in second, and the mod reads out as batteries fully charged.

If I insert just one battery in the "2nd Bay", the mod does not function. I don't know if that is "normal" behavior.

As far as I can determine the DNA75c appears not to be capable of measuring each battery separately, which might be helpful in diagnosing the issue. Any ideas what is going on?

It's a DNA75c, so parallel batteries. The mod should work with only one battery in either of the two slots, i.e. with a battery in just in the 2nd slot. Seems like an internal connection is broken on the way from the 2nd slot to the board.
If you still have warranty try to claim it, otherwise you'd have to either repair or only use the 1st slot and the 2nd as a backup battery carrier. If it turns out that the board is faulty you could try to claim Evolv warranty (1 year from purchase).

Agreed, or between the first slot and the second slot.

I don't see how it can possibly be the board itself; it only has one + and one - connection to the battery.

With a multi-meter you could check voltage at the bad slot's connections (with a battery in the good slot) to narrow down where the issue is.
Or resistance between the contacts.

But the OP already said he doesn't have one.

Well I did send an email to Element Vapes, so I'll see how it goes. As far as I know it is a reputable company, in fact I had just placed a second order from them. I am well within the 30 day policy on returns. Now the question is do I get another Think Vape or upgrade to something like the Lost Vape DNA75c Paranormal (at least in price and perhaps in build)?

would be worth getting one
Yep. A vaper getting cought without a multimeter should be as embarrassed as one with his underpants over his head.
upgrade to something like the Lost Vape DNA75c Paranormal
Or: invest the extra money into a multimeter for when your mod fails again in 31 days

Yes, but would be worth getting one. Using a mod that may have a loose wire could be a lot more expensive than a cheap multi-meter.
Given some of the stuff I've done for both for living and as a hobby, I can't imagine not having a multimeter. But not everyone is a techie. :)

Well if I did have a multimeter, and saw a partially or totally dead contact set, then I would want to tear it down to find the bad connection. Of course that would void the ability to return it. Then I would have to buy a soldering iron set to repair it. Then I would need to go get my singed clumsy fingers bandaged. :censored:

@Celt1, being that you are within the 30 day warranty window they (Element) should not give you any grief replacing your mod. I was not lucky dealing with Element or Lost Vapes for that matter. I was a returning customer but will no longer buy from Element.
Also not so sure how I feel about Lost Vape anymore either.
Hope they sort this out for you and make you a satisfied customer.
I really have to give all kudos to Evolv for my resolution
