Hello everyone. My name is Michael. I just picked up a Kanger Mini Protank II EVOD VV starter kit last Friday evening from Vape Dojo in Ellicott City, MD. I joined the forum yesterday. My adventure into vaping started because my wife (of 6 mos.) and I decided that we should quit smoking. I have been a smoker for 30 years. I have never tried to quit. I never really thought about quitting before. For the last 3 years, I have been smoking RYO rolled with American Spirit Organic tobacco.

So.. I get home Friday evening with my new starter kit. I had an Altoids can containing 8 rolled cigarettes in my pocket. I walked in the door at about 7:30pm, and proceeded to show my wife my new PV. I plugged one of the batteries into the charger, and then sat down for dinner. After dinner, I had 1 of my cigarettes (in the basement, as usual). I came back up stairs at about 8:30 and started to put everything together. Needless to say, I was vaping by 8:40...

Now, my original plan was to just smoke the remaining tobacco that I had (7 rolled smokes, plus about 1/4 can of unrolled tobacco), and switch to vaping when that ran out. As it turned out, that 8:30PM cig Friday evening would be pretty close to my last. I had no more on Friday night, one on Saturday (put out after smoking less than 1/3 of it), one on Sunday. one on Monday, NONE yesterday, and one this morning. The one this morning was a test. I wanted to see if I thought that it was more enjoyable, less enjoyable, or the same level of enjoyment as vaping. Good news! Here I was smoking a cigarette thinking that I enjoyed the flavor and experience of vaping just as much, if not more than the stinky kind. I smoked less than 1/2 of it and put it out. I headed straight into the house and grabbed my PV full of Dojo Butterscotch (50/50 - 18%).

So, I still have 3 rolled cigarettes and a 1/4 can of tobacco sitting on my desk. I've been looking right at them for 4 days, and I DO NOT MISS THEM ONE BIT!
:toast:

I had no idea that I would be able to make the switch so easily. I can't wait to see what I am going to feel like after a few months of non-smoking. I wish I had found this years ago...

Same happened with me. I had no intentions to quit and was fine if I kept smoking the occasional, but I wanted to cut down on the stinky clothes around the kids a bit....and for long car trips (like from dallas to chicago to visit my family) where when you are talking a 16hr drive I aint stopping to pull over for 15-20min to smoke. LOL.

my mom had never tried to quit in almost 50yrs, smoked through all 4 pregnancies even her last in 92....and I gave her vaping gear and she kinda rolled her eyes but tried it while she was visiting, and I sent her home with newbie stuff and she hasn't smoked since june!

it's really amazing isn't it?

I hit day 7 smoke free tomorrow after smoking for 21 years. I sort of had the same experience as you did. I still have 3.5 packs left in the closet and I honestly have no desire for them.

It was funny every time I tried to quit before and I would see someone smoking or smell one burning I would WHAT I WOULDNT DO FOR ONE OF THOSE RIGHT NOW!!!!, well today I came out of Lowes and there was a couple employees out front having a smoke and as I got closer and smelled it, I thought to myself those things smell horrible how did I do that for so many years. I know its still early for me as I have only been smoke free 6 full days, but I am quite confident that number is just going to continue to grow and grow!!!

I had a similar experience! I intended to phase out tobacco and phase in vaping, but low and behold, the night I started vaping was the night I totally quit tobacco! I did have a minor setback when I forgot my charger at home one day and my battery died at work and I tried smoking one of the cigs left in my last pack. Needless to say, it was horrible! My boss is scared of me being nicotine free though, and gave me money to go buy a second ego kit to keep always at work!

It's been almost four months, and I still carry around my last pack of smokes in my purse. I just can't bring myself to get rid of them, but I don't smoke them!

My daughter and her boyfriend had bought a set up from our local smokeshop and they had an extra battery and tank so they let me try it.

So glad I did because it really made me appreciate the set up I ended up getting online.

Threw my 2 packs of cigs I had left away as soon as I got some juice I liked.

Really, like the rest of you, I cannot imagine going back.

I feel better than I have in years.

Keep at it. Congratulations on getting off the stinkies! Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I am working on day two without any myself and after 30+ years I can already feel a change.

I can too... Small, but I can tell...

And I like your nickname. I am an amateur woodworker. As I like to tell my environmentalist friends, "I love trees... They smell wonderful when you let the sawdust out of them." :D

Great stories here. My own is similar. I kept my last half a pack for exactly one year after my last one. I made a ceremony of throwing it away on the one year anniversary. I'm sure they would have been even more disgusting at that point if I'd tried to smoke one.

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone! Nice to be around folks that get it.

But Spazmelda nailed it... Except that I am going to save that 1/4 can of tobacco and the last pack of Top papers until Friday, October 31st 2014. That will be the 1 year mark. I am going to bury the habit at sea (okay... the Chesapeake Bay... close enough). I'll dump the ashes of that last pack of papers and the contents of the can overboard. Pirate style. Walk the plank bad habit.
