Hello all,
I am new on this forum and I have to admit I read lot off interesting/usefull discussions regarding vaping.
I would like to start to prepare my own e-liquids.
Just bought few days ago 500 ml of 12 mg nic and 500 ml of 6 mg nic unflavoured e juice in plastic recipients. Can somebody help me how to properly store them as long as possible before and after opening the bottles?
I read a lot of topics concerning storage but most of them refers to high nic concentration.
Thank you!

Forgot to mention that the e-liquid is 70 VG 30 PG.

Best storage is in glass bottles, in the freezer, with as little air in the bottles as possible. Ideally, work it out so you have less than a 90 day supply at room temp for working use. But 90 days is not some hard number, just a rough number I made up for discussion purposes :)

If you plan on storing away for more than 4 months I would recommend you box up separate labeled bottles in the freezer 2 oz Amber Glass Boston Round Bottle 20-400 : Glass Boston Rounds
When your getting down to the last few days of your room temp supply take one out of the freezer to thaw / warm to room temp.

+1 on the dark amber bottles in the freezer for over stock ASAP. Also, with that I could add that I have usually about 250 ml of my 75pg/25vg 24 mg out in room temp out of direct sunlight in the amber bottles and never had an issue with the nic. That lasts me around 5 months with no oxidization color change either. Your mileage may vary.

Thank you all for you suggestions.
I ordered 10 100 ml dark brown glasses (I think it's the same with Amber Glass Boston Round Bottle ) (from a drug store - they use them to store liquid medicines etc). I plan to split my one litter flavorless e-juice into these bottles and store it (as little air in the bottles as possible as VNeil suggested). Now I have two possibilities:
1. Put the bottles in the basement.
2. Store them in the freezer.
Solution 2 I don't really like since I also keep food there and it's on the bottom side of the fridge where my son have easy access.
If I will keep these 100 ml bottles in the basement how much time they can be used?

Vacuum seal around the bottles or consider tape or shrink wrap.

(Do you have a history of your child (or other family member) opening the freezer and randomly placing hard, heavy, frozen bottles in his/her mouth.)

The toxicity of nicotine is vastly overstated.

I tend to treat it like Diaper Treasures:
Don't let the kids play with it.
Try not to get any in your eyes or mouth.
Wipe up spills and wash your hands after.

Cheers

My child never opened the freezer door but it's not a risk I am willing to take.
I had a key inside the bathroom door (on the inside). When my son was 2.5 year old somebody suggested me to remove the key so that my son will not lock inside. I replied don't worry he doesn't know what a key does. After two weeks he was locked inside the bathroom. It took me 15 min to get him out. I was at the point to break the door. :)
So from my past experience regarding my child safety I wouldn't risk at all.
Very good suggestion regarding shrink wrap around the bottles. It's stopping oxygen to enter the bottle.
I would like to know if I will keep the bottles inside the basement for how long I can use them.

I have a little "Bart" as well...

How long do you plan to store it?

If you are stockpiling...a higher concentration will degrade less percentage wise over time.(imho)

If I recall, someone stored some 100mg/ml for about 5 years and upon opening and testing found it had degraded into the 99 point something mg/ml range. Negligible imho.

Cheers

As mentioned in my previous posts I have 500 ml VG PG 12 mg and same quantity 6 mg. So spitted in 100 ml small bottles 5 12mg unflavored e-juice and 5 6 mg unflavored e-juice. Let's say I vape 3 ml/day and should last ~1 year. So 1 year basement storage should be fine? I plan to use the bottles one by one of course. My biggest concern is not the nic drop but the possibility to develop inside the unflavored e-juice bacteria or something.

My experience suggests it will be good for at least a year. It is important to understand it does not "go bad" like a switch gets turned on or off. Over time the now clear solution will turn amber, but that is not a sign that it is "bad", just a bit oxidized. The concentration will reduce over time. More importantly, some people report it will get bitter or nasty tasting. I don't think you will get any consensus or hard factual answer here, although you will get a lot of varying opinions.

You can buy a small 1-3 cu ft freezer for $100-200, and an add on lock for $30 or so. If you live in the USA you can buy a liter of 100mg nic for $50. Sooner than later, that nic will either not be available at all or it could easily be taxed at $1000 or more. And if you don't have your own stockpiled nic you may be paying $1/ml tax on juice. If that day comes (and it is more a matter of when, not if, and likely this year...) the cost of that small freezer for your basement will be chump change. Every vaper should have a liter or two of 100mg nic (or the highest concentrate they can buy in their locality) in a freezer. Or more, depending on their consumption of course.

If you are stockpiling...a higher concentration will degrade less percentage wise over time.
And I've heard the opposite suggested here, that high concentrations degrade relatively quicker. I'm not sure anyone really has the facts on this matter.

Bacteria don't much care for PG or nicotine, so I wouldn't worry about that. The concern is degradation of the nicotine. It has 3 enemies: Oxygen, light, and heat. I believe what you're doing will be OK for a one year period.

My understanding is that VG has about a 10 year shelf life, stored in a cool dark place. I have not seen anything about it going bad from bacterial contamination.

PG is a well known antibacterial/antiviral. It is used in liquid foods and medicines, and is why liquid medications do not go bad in your medicine cabinet. Based on that, it is probably a good idea to have a healthy mix of PG in your stored juice or nic concentrate. One of our members here (Kurt) is a chemist and he says that VG is a slightly better medium than PG because it has less oxygen in it. But I've never seen him address the issue of bacterial contamination and his discussions on that are mainly in the context of long term freezer storage. I personally buy concentrated 50/50 nic and if I were putting up nic in consumable concentrations (like your 6-12mg), especially out of the freezer I would use at least 30% PG myself although I have no factual basis to say how much PG is "enough".
