So I've been working with 100mg/ml nic. On one occasion, a drop blew off of the tip of my syringe right into my eye. It was a somewhat frightening experience with some unpleasant consequences. The other day, I caught a whiff of the stuff and had the same experience all over again. Needless to say I don't do anything without full gear now. Mask, gloves, pants, long sleeves, eye glasses. Still, I experience a small surge of what feels like a nicotine rush any time I work with it and sometimes even when I'm not. It always scares the .... out of me, as I always assume I'm in for another hour long ride. Could this be a psychosomatic association kind of thing after what happened? Does anyone else have these kinds of experiences? I read all of these posts from people who say they've spilled it on themselves or on a table and it wasn't too big of a deal when they cleaned up. One person even said they dripped it straight. How can this be? Am I weirdly over sensitive to nicotine? I all but chain smoked the dreaded reds for 10 years. Seems like if that were the case, I would have noticed a while ago. I'm now so paranoid that even though I've run out of vapeable juices, I'm afraid just to open the stuff to make more. Considering just abandoning the hobby and trying to quit nicotine altogether. ( I realize this is probably not common and am not suggesting DIY is inherently dangerous. Just expressing concern with my own experiences).

Might be an idea to go to lower strength nicotine liquid for a while and see how you go, I only use 72% as that's nearly at the legal limit here in the UK but have never had any mishaps. Failing that see if you can get the syringes that use screw on needles more expensive but would take some worry away.

I've had a few drops of 100 mg nic base on my skin and I'm not sensitive to it. I am careful not to get any in my eyes as I would think that would sting. Then again, I was cutting up some jalapeno peppers the other day and even though I did wash my hands right after, I still got some residue in an eye when I wiped it with a finger. I flushed it with water and after about 10 minutes the burning went away. Lesson learned, I'll wash up more thoroughly next time, but I'm not going to let it get to me either.

OTOH, everyone is different and you could be quite sensitive to it. If you add an equal amount of pg/vg to your base you would have 50 mg/ml base.

IMO if you are afraid of it, address it before you continue. If I get worried about something I'm about to do, I step back and re-think the whole thing. I know if I'm afraid I'll tense up and that just makes the situation worse. I resolve the issue somehow, usually end up either realizing it's safe or I change the way I was about to do it so I'm more comfortable with it.

If you can quit nic, go for it. I reduced over time and got to zero nic in less than a year. Now I can take it or leave it. Feels good to know I'll be OK if nic becomes hard to get :)

I do think it's psychosomatic; a panic attack and nic OD have some rather similar symptoms and sensations. I wouldn't say you're overly-sensitive to nicotine, but 100mg nicotine, even one drop, directly in the eye, is pretty intense, and would enter your bloodstream almost immediately.

Your best bet would probably be, while wearing your protective gear, mix the 100mg nic with an equal amount of PG, to bring it down to 50mg. It's certainly not common, but there is at least one person around here who vapes 50mg (regularly), and he's still kicking. That might cause your panic reaction to back off, but enable you to continue DIYing for cost-saving and personal customization.

Just buy some 36% nic solution and stop going thru all this. I once chatted w/a vendor back in 2012 who only let new employees work with 36% nic solution, because it is so safe.

You are lucky your eye was not damaged.

I mean, logically, would not the less experienced typically be more accident-prone than their more advanced counterparts? Just saying! I don't know how much I can really slow down without just quitting or buying in lower strengths as others have suggested. I'll probably opt to dilute the 100mg, as the lower concentrations are a bit pricey by comparison. I dunno. Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet.

I noticed a 200mg concentration recently. That's crazy to me. I feel like I'd have to wear a hazmat suit.

If you're having problems with 100mg, if I were you I'd mix it down to 36 mg, just be sure to mix it well in smaller batches for easier use.

36ml of 100mg.
64ml of VG or PG (use whatever is in your base).

Once you're out mix up another :)

When it comes to everything! Everyone's body reacts differently :p

on another note if it's vg based I've heard that it can separate and needs mixed every once and a while, you may have pockets of much higher nic concentrations.

Everyone is different. Cigarettes made me feel relaxed not stimulted (and lethargic all the time etc.)

But vaping makes me really stimulated. I have to vape really low like, 6mg, and even that i cannot vape past 6pm or I get insomnia and a racing pulse in my neck and ears, so have to vape zero nic in the evening.

Everyone reacts to things differently. Maybe buy some small bottles of cheap juice at maybe 18mg, 11mg and 6mg and use them on a basic PV just to see how the different levels affect you.

I'd say that's true about being clumsier when less experienced -- when I first started working with 100mg, it scared the hell out of me (when I first started vaping *6mg* scared the hell out of me!); I didn't wear all that protective gear, but I did wear gloves; I found they actually made me clumsier, less dexterous, which is bad when you're already kinda shaky with plain fear. I've gotten accustomed to it, so now I don't even wear gloves -- but, anything I do with it, I'm right next to the sink, so I can rinse my hands immediately if I should get any on me. I also try to not get my face very close to it, just so I don't get that drop-in-the-eye that you suffered.

Diluting it to 50mg yourself with PG is definitely the more cost-effective solution; you could dilute it even further, if you vape a low mg level. PG is better to dilute it with, since it's thinner and will allow faster and more thorough mixing.

OP, Anxiety Attacks.
Understandable, as you had an early Bad Experience. 100mg/ml can deliver quite a sting to the Eye and the eye is a direct conduit to parts of the brain.(Double OMG moment)
One has 2 choices when this happens. Learn to be more cautious or Panic at each attempt.
I started just like most, with little experience and high concerns. The more things have progressed the less concerned I have gotten.
I have gotten 100mg - a single drop - on the tongue and it was not a terrifying experience, though it did play heck with the tongue for a few minutes.

Work with small quantities in a well ventilated area(large room), without Distractions.

You should be fine..............in time.
