So earlier this year I was talking about how my work tests for nicotine, blood sugar, cholesterol and body weight/fitness every year. I was thinking about switching to zero nic and then taking the test and showing that I have "quit" I didn't I still vaped my nic and went and took the test. Well of course I came back positive. I had to subscribe to a "coaching" program in order to not have to pay double for insurance. So I had my first coaching session and I explained how I wasn't a smoker anymore and hadn't had a real cigarette in a long time. She asked why I had tested positive and I explained about the e cig and how vaping has saved my life. She then exclaimed "Oh so then you have quit, good for you! No issues since you have quit you are considered a non smoker so no increase in insurance." She also explained how her mother in law had quit smoking with vaping. She also said that she had never known anyone to quit smoking with the other stuff only the ecigs and that she has been a quit coach for 12 years. I think that is an example of how vaping is wonderful and the other stuff gum, patches, inhalers etc are just a joke!

That is great news!

The thing that irritates me about this is that all you had to do was tell your coach about the e-cigs. If your employer had the sense to listen you could have just told them the same thing and avoided the coaching program altogether.

Very glad to hear that it worked out in your favor.

Was the coach a company employee or an insurance employee? I'm sure this has to vary between company and insurance program. I've only vaped for about a month and to be honest I smoked 1 pack in that month and 1 cig about 3 days ago. (My footer is a bit misleading :) ). Admittedly 1 pack in 1 month that's a hell of an improvement. I'm curious about what I can do to reduce health care costs and life insurance costs.

Does health insurance company vs life insurance company treat this differently?

that is amazing!! An insurance company knowing the facts and not taking the expected stance of "you tested positive for nicotine so we can legally raise your rates"!

I agree. All she said they care about is actual tobacco whether snus, cigarettes, cigars and pipes. She said it's all the other crap not the nicotine they worry about.

That is great news to hear. My daughter has switched to 0 nic juice bc she is being tested for nicotine for the county fire department. She is just starting out and doesn't want to miss the opportunity by failing the nic test. I find it odd that they are passing on the drug and alcohol test and only testing for nicotine. Times sure have changed.
