so after 4 hours of use my JS died today :'(!!!!! I took the battery out because it wasn't vaping too well, upon inspection I put it back in and tried to get a hit when I noticed the LED wasn't working. I was quite furious and after looking at it some more I felt the whole thing getting very hot in my palm. I took out the cartridge and smelled melting plastic. I looked inside the ionization chamber and saw that the catridge had slightly melted on the inside. Upon further inspection I saw that even though the LED lights were off, power was still going to atomizer. Just by pushing and releasing the manual switch once, the power to atomizer is continuous until I'm able to get the battery out. Hopefully be returning it tomorrow. I'll probably one day air it as this thing kicks so much ... and I hope I'll get it back by the end of the week :[

I swear on these forums you can't discuss the negatives about any aspect of these devices without people getting in a defensive huff. Everything seems to either have to be the greatest PV on earth or the worst.

If that was directed at me RE: our back/forth on battery life, I apologize, wasn't intending it that way, just trying to clarify, etc. I think the good and bad should *always* be discussed, just sometimes when it's not clear and is a generalization, it can give an incorrect impression to others looking for information. Anyways, if my response RE: battery life was the reason for the above, sorry for any misunderstanding there.. I want an 'all day one battery' small device as well.

Are you really only getting twice the battery life from the stick that you are with a 510? Thats actually pretty disappointing. That seems like less than a regular old pen style or even the other minis.

I think the battery life is because the 801 draws more juice from the battery because it is much bigger than the 510 atty.....5-7 hours on a pretty small battery seems good to me.

Thanks for your reviews Elendil. I pulled the trigger on the Widow's 510. I definately want to get a Stick at some point.

At the end of the day,,, the thought of having a cloud of vapor that I've heard about from the 510 makes me gasp....

I'm curious,,, think the stick would stand up to outdoor work situations, like cutting the grass or going out in the woods to cut firewood??

I use it on my garden tractor all the time. Just as good as indoors.

    Excellent reviews Strider... er... Elendil!

Curious, where did you get the butterscotch flavouring for your DIY liquid?

    I get it here: www.lorannoils.com

I ordered mine Sunday (so they got the order Monday) and I received it this morning two days later. Love the Janty Stick so far. Got a 901 adapter coming which should give it more flavor. But this thing puts off way more vapor then I need every-time.

I'll have to report back on battery life and longevity of the device in general, but I expect twice the battery life of the reg 901 batteries. Even if not it is like having a fresh battery running at +4.2volts the entire time (not sure what the actual volts at the atty are, but it hits so well maybe that would explain a little shorter battery life than expected). Wonder if the circuit board is turning amps into volts like a 12v inverter.

I think I would guess it is comparable to most cell phones... If you use the piss out of it you will probably need to stick it on a charge before the end of the day. So far I have been using it most of the day (but I am nowhere near a constant vaporer, lol) no signs of the battery dying yet, so I expect to hit it sometime tomorrow with another full charge. But they give you an extra battery and you can get them cheap. I have two-backups that I am not even sure I'll need to use right now. I'll just throw it on usb for a couple of hours each day. On the other hand I will continue to use my regular 901 complete e-cigs along with the Janty so I'll have plenty of batteries and backups anyways.

Anyway, The Janty stick is definitely nice to have as part of your e-cig arsenal and great service from Janty...

Thanks for the information Elendil. I knew just what to expect...

For the record, the switch plate came loose on my JantyStick two weekends ago while I was using it at the beach. Hot. Humid. When I got back home, and pressed the plate back on the unit, it remained in place. Air conditioning. A few days later, I went out with it again. And it came loose.

A few days after that, carrying it in a pants pocket, the entire plate swung free and was hanging by two thin wires. Hot. Humid. So it no longer travels with me and cannot replace the best unit I've ever used -- the Janty Kissbox. The JantyStick is now an air-conditioning-only e-device, with the switch plate once again pressed back into place.

    Hi TBob,

For a quick and dirty fix why not wrap a tight rubber band around it? (not over the button!) Then it could accompany you on your travels again. :)

You must have put the battery in the wrong way (I did and the same thing happened to me but it still works). The instructions did not help me. I finally looked inside and saw the 'familiar' spring down inside which indicates the 'negative' end. Scarry! Wonder if this thing works even better (if I hadn't semi-fried it)?:D

I am curious about the batteries. If I have it correctly, they are 3.7 v and 360 mAH, but what exactly is the "model" number?
Has anyone found a good source for replacement batteries, and a plug-in-the-wall recharger, preferably one that holds at least two batteries. I see that Janty USA offers the batteries and a single-battery wall recharger.

I don't have a JantyStick but I'm pretty sure that they are 10440 batteries (AAA size). I have brand new pair that I was going to build a mod with but decided to use 14500 instead. I may put them up for sale in the classified section.

@Elendil - do you think the JS is a 'long term device,' compared to your SD?

Quite bluntly, I mean..do you think it'll be working in a year?

I have neither device, although will be in the market for a 'non-cig looking device' in the not too distant future..

I have had my stick for almost 2 weeks. Other than the Janty addy going bad after 5 days (Janty is replacing so no problem), it is still functioning like the first day I got it. My biggest concern would be dropping the stick. It is, after all, plastic. THe SD is metal and unless you drop it on the plastic button, appears to be more durable on the surface.

Ludo (from Janty) has indicated that there is a metal version of the stick coming. I am certain it will be more expensive than the current version. I woulod not hesitate to recommend the stick to anyone, so long as you are not too clumsy;)

They are 10440. There are very close to AAA in size but not exactly the same size. Do NOT use AAA in the stick.

    Hey Elendil,

Is that your actual stick in your sig? It looks different then mine. On yours the end by the LED has a black band that mine doesn't and the litle circle thing that looks like a vent is on the other end of my stick. There also appears to be some sort of button in that black band... Do they have older versions that I might have got or is that the LE or did you just modify the pic?

    -edit-

Nevermind, I suppose that is a CAD rendering before the actual stick was built after looking at their website...

    Elendil,

Thank you very much for the wonderful Janty Stick review. And double thanks for the followup!

I almost went for a Janty Stick, but got a SD instead based on its tougher construction.

My thoughts went kinda like this: Imagine vaping on a warm summer's day in your favorite park. As your thoughts drift to whatever gives you peace and joy, a radical non-smoker comes and starts screaming in your face about his rights to breathe free and that you are a thoughtless churl to smoke where children, animals and radical non-smokers cavort.

Rudely yanked out of your happy place, like a babe snatched unready from the womb, you hastily gather your thoughts and explain to the raving lunatic that all you are exhaling is harmless water vapor. He still rants on, dripping froth and invectives from his cruelly curled lips. In his excitement, he grabs your shirt and shoves you roughly to the ground.

You see red, lose all sense of control and haul back to smash him in the cheekbone\sub-orbital socket area of his hate twisted face. Now, and this is what sold me on the SD, do you:

A: Punch him with a closed fist, possibly not delivering the power needed to stop his attacks.

B: Punch him with your Janty Stick enclosed in your fist, adding the necessary firmness needed to disable him, but risking the plastic cracking open and slicing your palm, necessitating a trip to the ER and depriving your loved ones of the well earned comfort of your loving touch for a few weeks

    or

C: Punch him with your Screwdriver enclosed in your fist, adding the necessary firmness needed to disable him, secure in the knowledge that the delicate tissues of your hand weren't damaged because the SD is made of metal. Wonderful, solid, undamageable metal.

As I stand, unharmed, over his unconscious and thankfully SILENT form, I open my hand and gaze with loving reverence at what is in my palm. Metal. Shiny, strong and true. And I smile a smile of confidence that I made the right decision. For me, for my loved ones and all the persecuted smokers and vapers in this incredibly beautiful planet we inhabit.

Of course the Janty Stick is a damn fine device, for home use. But when it comes to what I'll use in the politically correct anti-smoking battlefield of tomorrow, you can pry my SD from my cold, dead hands.

In any case Elendil, a most excellent review, my Brother! I eagerly await the 30 day followup!

    Dickie
