OK, I just joined the forums, and was sick of an 808, the tiny battery life, and that fact that it still looked like a cig.
I took the plunge and spent a fair amount of money for me on an Apollo vtube mini, and a DCT tank system with carto core.

First, I tried it right outta the box. The vape was a weak, and tasted a bit burnt even after taking a few good long drags without firing it. I had bubble come out the hole in the carto, thinking that was soaking the fill. The vape is completely inconsistent. Sometimes its pretty good, sometimes is fairly airy and tasteless. Sometimes its kinda burnt tasting.

Its a 3 ohm dual element tank (DCT) system. I thought maybe the tank/cart combo just sucked, so I tried dripping with just the included atty. I put a few drip on it and took a few hit... it was ok. So then I thought I wasn't dripping enough so I put 8-10 drips in and it seems to run out of the atty and onto/into the vtube.

What gives? Did I hurt the vtube when dripping?

What am I doing wrong? What should the battery voltage be to get good vape?!

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.

Kory..... with a K.,

Welcome to the forums!

From my understanding you are using a carto tank in the first part of your "right outta the box" paragraph and an atty in the second.

To start off- did you prefill the cart with liquid before tanking it? If it does not have a flange on the bottom you can use the push or condom method to fill them. Basically, take the little rubber sleeve it comes in, put about 1ml of juice in it and slowly push you carto (threads first) into the juice. Let it soak in, lightly blow on the top of the cart to clear the juice from the center piece, and tank up. This method will make sure juice is in all of the carto from the first puff.

As for the atty- sounds like you've flooded it the second time, might have been not enough the first.

Out of question- what volt are you set to? With my 3ohm carts I run at 5.0 volts....

It could have, same as firing any empty carto would. On first fill you have to fill the carto the same way you would any other one.

Personally I didn't have much luck with the DCTs but my problems were not the same as yours, only thing I can say is you need to fill the carto the same way you would any non-tank carto first. Saturate the filler and then fill the tank.

What's the PG/VG ratio you're using? VG is thicker, higher VG% and you need to take primer puffs every few pulls or it won't get in those little holes.

For dripping, you don't want to do more than 3 drops, even then 3 can flood the atty. 3 on a fresh atty, 1-2 after that. Dripping pretty much requires you to constantly drip, it's not a "fill n forget" method.

Kory, I don't have any advice for you on your current setup except to say that the vtube is a good unit, so I doubt that it is the problem. I don't use carto tanks, so I can't help you diagnose that problem.

However, I would suggest that at the first opportunity you should buy a Vivi Nova tank. It does not use cartos. It uses replaceable atomizer heads, and 3 of them are included with the Vivi Nova - a 1.8ohm head, a 2.4ohm and a 2.8 ohm. The Vtube will work well with all of those heads. You will just need to adjust your voltage to the right level for the head you're using. The Vivi Nova doesn't leak a drop, comes apart for cleaning and replacing the heads (which just screw off and back on), and vapes great.

If I had to use carto tanks, I don't know if I would continue vaping.

Sorry for the unspeedy reply I was away for a long (non computer/internet) weekend! But to answer a few questions from above.
1. I am vaping a 80% PG 20% vg liquid. So I don't think its too thick.
2. I took the carto outta the tank and tore it apart, it was fairly black inside, so Im thinking it was burned.

So I put in a new carto, dripped it full just like I did with my 808 cartos. Filled the tank. Took a couple hits without firing the button just to make sure it was full saturated, and..... pretty much the same.

So back to trouble shooting. I WANT a vape like my 808, but with more battery life and more vapor. I don't want the flavor to change, and I don't want a "hot" vape.

So the only other thing I can think of (being its the same juice) is volts and ohms. What ohm cartos do 808s use? Would a 3 ohm dual coil being changing my flavor? I feel like its less flavorful and hotter. It tastes... well.... more like smoke. The juice I have found that I LOVE has a nice taste with a HINT of sweet. I taste virtually none of the sweetness and the flavor seems different with the Vtube and DCT. I don't get it.

Is there anything to the volts/ohms thought?

It's dual coil so it must be better, right? Biggest scam Smoktech has ever pulled off was that DCT! Think about it, they could afford to give those tanks away, and live happily ever after of the millions of cartos they sold because of it. In one swoop Smoktech went from an also ran to a major player in the e-cig market. And, all they did was market a cheap tank that no one elses carto would fit in.

The reality is that with PV's like the L-Rider (Vtube, Lava Tube, Cylon, or whatever you want to call it) with it's 2.5a limit, any single coil carto will vape circles around a DCC.

With the vivi nova you may or may not run into an air flow problem. Don't worry, both possible causes are an easy fix.
The SS/chrome Vtube has a split spring loaded center pin, it is possible for the pin to go inside the center pin of the nova blocking off the air. Just carefully spread the Vtube center pin a little so that it doesn't.
The nova tank can sit flush with the top of the SS/chrome Vtube blocking off the air, you can use a shorty extension to rase it up or you can slot the bottom of the nova tank.

Appoligize for the dirty pic, but this nini nova has been in heavy use on my SS Cylon for a while now. maybe it's time to clean it
